Dragon Age: Inquisition: The Exalted Plains from a Design Perspective

The latest Bioware blog has been posted that gives insight into the design process behind Dragon Age: Inquisition. In this post, the team discusses the creation of the Dales' Exalted Plains. It's not just a matter of looks, but also logic that goes into creating a zone complete with a viable ecosystem and more.

“The first thing we [did] was try to portray the civil war and the impact it’s having on the environment and the people of that region,” says senior environment artist Andrew Farrell. “In these spaces, we try to provide opportunities for the Inquisition to come in and make its mark on the area. Then the people there rally around that.”

The Inquisition arrives at the Exalted Plains during a ceasefire between two armies at war. The bodies of fallen soldiers mysteriously rose from the dead and have driven the armies back to their respective castles in retreat.

As this is the Dales, one might wonder: what’s become of the Dalish elves?

They should make a non-level scaling mode for more hardcore players.  They have the tools, it's not like it would be impossible to sit one of their programmers down and write that mod in like a day.

Like anything, it sounds good on paper.  Since DA2 I feel Bioware needs to prove themselves again as capable of crafting single player games again.  They were steadily advancing the singleplayer rpg genre in the right direction with NWN 2, KOTOR,  DA:0, ME 1 and 2, imho, until DA2 came out and it showed their laziness or product rush.  I really do hope DA3 turns out as great as it sounds on paper, but only time will tell if isn't just hype.

Dragon Age 2 really seemed to be the result of a very aggressive release schedule. Just before release the composer did an interview with IGN were he "accidently" said that the game had a stupid little time-frame to until release. Something completely outragous of an RPG of it's size. Basically EA wanted the game out fast because they thought it was important to keep the hype going.

DA2 could have been a stellar game. It was the result of a development team who didnt have time. The art assets are literally placeholders because there was no time.

@Vicodin Taco I guess you really havent been following the game because they said they will have places in the game that low level characters can't go or they will get killed.
