Assuming that Zenimax is telling the truth (and its not just a lame excuse, which I suspect tbh) that a global AH would destroy the ingame economy, the alternative they present is just not good enough for a new MMO. Every MMO has many players who are not interested in joining a guild or to play PVP. For those people all that is left are third party trade websites or spamming chat for hours to trade. This could be the deciding factor for people to unsub.
I also don't understand defending Zenimax's position on this. There are many possible alternatives for a global AH. Alternatives that work a lot better then what ESO currently has. Someone mentioned SWG (although assumed it was similar to ESO in this lol). SWG had systems in place that kept the trading decentralized in a way that would benefit all types of players.
Defending Zenimax in this case is just helping to kill this game imo. This is one of those situations when devs mean that fanboys can hurt a game on the long run if they defend everything.
But what if I like not having a global AH in my MMOs? Is that being a "fanboy" or defending Zenimax?
well one of the most successful trading systems on an MMO, its not global ...
i talk EVE, which has local trading markets. This is boosting the opportunities to make money or experience the laws of the market and transports ...
anyway having a trading system needs tons of efforts, f.e. GW2 trading post runs on different server and still 2 years after the release it has some minor bugs ... i bet they preferred to avoid such work to do for ESO ...

Mea culpa. I should have said done something different. Regardless, thank you for commenting on the merits and providing a counter argument to the rest of my post.... oh that's right, you didn't...
Shadowbane was a great game (imo) but sadly the population and activity never approached that of e.g. EQ1.
Trying to buy or sell anything in EQ1 - which fundamentally took place just as you described in Shadowbane (there was the PvP element of course) was difficult, hit and miss, took a long time. People spammed and the chat box runneth over.
If only a few thousand spam the channels in TESO ..... ig a few tens of thousands spam the channels ....

Suggesting their decision is right but then suggesting that people should get around their design ... no. If they believe their design is right they should defend it or say nothing imo.
And saying "destroy global economy" is not defending their decision - that is Zen simply saying they want everyone to do all quests and to become crafters, spending as much time in game as possible to do so. With no trade everyone has to do everything for themselves basically.
The problem is that there are no item consuming for rare item in this game, so once they implement a global ah, purple or even yellow items would be very cheap. Hardly anyone would deconstruct a purple item because usually you can sell it for more, but in the same time purple items you equip dont bound on you so there will be more and more purples. the only reason some purple worth more than few thound gold is the difficulty to buy them due to the inefficient trading system, and the devs know that
imo all we need is the soulbound system like wow, you dont see rare items sell cheaply on wow AH because people ware them themselve, and they cant be sold after soulbounded.

Here's the thing. People want AH's. If you don't give them one they will complain about not having one. Sure they can trade in general chat but all that does is emphasize the lack of a global AH. Do you really want to be THAT game? Easier and smarter to just put in an AH and not have to deal with explaining/justifying the lack of one for the life of the game. What I find most disturbing about it is that the game got all the way to release without an AH. Shows a real lack of vision. I'm not all together surprised though. The whole game just feels "loose". Like each portion was developed by separate teams and just patched together with no real overlying vision, theme, or purpose to the game. For a fledgling developer I would excuse it, but for an Elder Scrolls title? Sorry folks, this one's joining SWTOR in the coulda, shoulda, woulda column.
This is good actually. I'd much prefer players running things than a company. If people complain about this then they are the type that wants their hands held through every aspect of a game, including trading LOL. I wish more stuff was player driven instead of just given to us by developers.
I agree with their logic for not placing a global AH in game. While it may be inconvienant for some, it help maintaing the economy and prevent deflation. I also see nothing wrong with a website dedicated to helping people connect to peddle their wares. We used to have these way back in the day (EQ), no reason it wont work today.

also its more useful to be part of several guilds , some guilds might get real organzied and get farming and hten have people buy form there guild store....
i can see this develop into full fledged trade guilds , what a trade guild should be about.
early on what i have decided ot do is just dump stuff to the guild ot help as many as i can ....the more of US get higher up and can get more valuable stuff the better....then we /they can help me or others....it takes trust and large HUGE guilds will have security issues related to this...
they need to have more permissions setup so we all can get greater controls of our guilds ....
ya i might toss a detailed example let me play more lol....

I would rather it stay the way it is, the old system in EQ where the vast majority of gear was tradeable wasn't a bad system. If you upgraded a piece of gear you could then give it to your alt or sell it. It'll keep the market interesting, especially in a game where there is so much customization in crafting.

The solution is simple.
Add a bazaar system as in SWG and let players actually vendor their wares out of their player houses....
Both of those features should have been in at launch.

That's just, like, my opinion, man.
I am with you there and would love to travel in a chariot
Even a Regional AH, like they used to have in Vanguard would be better that the guild one.
It has got to the stage that I just vendor or deconstruct everything...
