Gaming Chairs?

syntax42syntax42 Member UncommonPosts: 1,385

I'm in the market for a new chair after the plastic leg broke off my current chair.  Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Don't suggest to search Google for it.  Too many console gaming chairs come up.  I'm not about to sit on the floor and try to type or use a mouse.

I would prefer to find a comfortable chair that isn't designed for rolling.  I don't move my chair around like an office worker might do.  If it swivels, that is a plus because I need to be able to get out of the chair without fighting my desk.

The one chair I found which has a pedestal base did not get very good reviews on Amazon.  People complained about feeling the bars in the chair and that it wasn't made for taller (6'2") people.

My recommendation is to go to a brick-and-mortar store that sells computer chairs, try sitting in the various options that they have, adjust things to the way you would use it, and pick one that feels right to you.  What matters is not whether a chair is appropriate to an average human, but whether it is appropriate to you.

Go find an office chair that feels comfortable and spins however you like it, then grab some of these to replace the wheels with.

Those are a good idea, thanks for the link.

I might get those if I buy a 5-leg chair.  They will at least keep the wear on the carpet in my apartment to a minimum.

I went through this about five months back.  It seems I go through a chair every year or so, but this one has proved it's worth.

Everything is adjustable, vertically and horizontally.  I  left the arm-rests off, but even those are adjustable.  I also agree with the sit test idea, but don't settle for something less than what you want.

Places like Office Max and Office Depot and some of the bigger chain stores, Wal-mart, Target, Fred Myers (if your in the PNW) have various desk chairs you can try out.

Once you find one that is comfortable go home and see if Amazon or NewEgg has it for sale. Places like Office Depot are so outrageously priced it really isnt "funny".

Yeah, never thought of those before, and they are a good idea.

    Thanks.

Got this one on sale a month or so ago, very happy with it.

I also went and sat in pretty much every chair they had before selecting one. Not a bad idea to do the same before  you buy one.

Ignore the business supply stores and computer stores. Go to a major business furniture store. You'll be overwhelmed with the selection available. They, well, most won't be cheaply made or priced though.

Hint: If you sit in a chair and can feel the springs or the seat pan after a couple of minutes you will quickly hate your purchase. No matter how good it looks.  Function first, appearance last.

DoMore chairs will set you back  $1,000.  I got mine at Goodwill for $50.

Nice snag. I'm jealous. I got a new chair as a gift for Fathers Day last year, and it's the most uncomfortable hunk of crap I've had the pleasure of sitting in. But it looks pretty. What can I do, I suppose.

If you have the time and patience I recommend going garage selling. I picked up a really nice leather chair that was hardly used with nothing wrong with it for $20, picked it up at an estate sale.

That chair would have a catastrophic mishap if it were mine. Especially if you spend a lot of time in it.

Wish I knew the brand of this one chair. Some factory in their shipping department had the nicest desk chairs i've ever sat in.  They had two long floppy seat adjustments with big square ends coming out the right side. I flipped a few of them over and was never able to find a brand. Truthfully I never bothered to look online either. Can't be to many types of desk chairs with that type of description.  Guess I'll try now and update if I find them.

Edit: Seems likely that it might have been a Flash Furniture chair.  Can't imagine to many companies make adjustments like that?  Have not seen the specific chair though.

Woah.. I seriously don't see the money there. $20k.  Being able to use a pipe bender and welder equals that kind of price tag? They wrapped a frame around a bucket seat. I mean for that kind of money I would think that it might move you know?

Of course the best thing to do is go straight into a computer chair shop and sit in the chairs and adjust one you think you might like and sit in it how you would at home etc. If it's comfortable, get it. I can't list anything that would be considered right as each person is different. For example I have a red 5 legged office chair which is exactly the shape I need it to be and can be adjusted etc. Found it at salvos for a $1 donation which would otherwise end up in the dumpster. So basicly, you could find a chair anywhere you look but the first place to start would be your nearest computer chair shop.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
