Why cant you post items to your alts ?

greatskysgreatskys Member UncommonPosts: 451

Given I was running out of bank space . I thought maybe it would be a good idea to just concentrate on a couple of crafts per character in the game . I thought i would send some materials to my alt only to find a message saying I couldn't post to myself . I don't think I can recall a game where I couldn't post to my alts .

Also another odd thing there is no search by typing the name of what your looking for in the guild stores . Which makes it potentially difficult to compare prices once the trading guilds start to grow . But weirdly you can type the name of your item in the guild store and search your inventory . I'm enjoying the game but there are some odd little design choices that I hope they change .

It's to stop the players using the mail as an ersatz storage area.  Everyone used to do it a few years back in mmorpgs, when you could sometimes mail as many as 10 items in one go, and the load on the game became so huge it started causing problems.

It depends on how the game is designed - mail is typically not s lot of "load" on the game just database storage.

Unless you consider storage as load, normally that term is used for CPU not storage.

You also are on one mega server, so I would think that is what they were thinking. Less for the database to keep up with.

I would guess it's to do with the fact you're posting to your own account, not to a character, stupid I know. All I do is post stuff to my girlfriend and she returns it, I then open it on the alt I want it on.

Bank is shared between characters just use it to transfer items from character to character.

That useful to know thanks but I guess it also makes it very difficult to level skills up crafting with alts given my banks already full of materials for provisioning and the cost of expanding it after then initial 10 slots is going to get quite costly . Maybe its been designed as such so you have to spend money in the cash store to expand them ?  ( I've not looked so not sure if that type of bank expansion is available in the store ) .  I don't know how easy it will be able to be to sell stuff either the guild stores seem quite limited . I've joined 4 trading guilds but none of them seem to have more than 2-3 hundred people in them I guess in time some will become known as the better places to trade in the game .

Your bank is shared by all your characters you dont need to send anything to any of your alts.

Also you can craft with materials on your bank without even having them on your inventory.

The mailsystem is accountbound, and not character bound...

I was wondering... why ESO does not allows each toon to have their own bank space? But then in this case ESO has to allow mailing between toons...

Character level 36, doing Blacksmith, clothier, woodworking, and provisioning.  I'm now level 50 in provisioning.  I have plenty of space and I'm rolling in cash.  Why.... because if I can make something in provisioning, I do.  There is no point keeping mats for provisioning while leveling if you can make a food.  You make the food, you level.  You make low level food that no one wants?  Guess what, you've just turned 2 stacks of 50 items that sell to vendors for 0 gold into a stack of 50 that sells to vendors at 5GP per unit.  Unless you are level 50+ there is NO reason  to hold on to provisioning mats when you can make stuff.  4-8K GP in 2 hours of just looting every box as I go... when I get full I go back to town and craft, then sell it all to vendors for a fast turnover.  Also if I out level an ore like Iron... I stick it in the guild back so we can make stuff for lowbies.  I have no alts and my bank space is fine... in fact I have 10 pieces of equipment for research and all my trophies in there as well.

How do you find or buy recipes to make all the food. Many of the provisioning items I've found are useless to me, I don't have a recipe for them so I have to dump them off.
