I wonder whether they have a server architecture issue - basically the hardware they have in place to run the game.
Its pretty obvious that the EU server isn't having the same issue as the US server. Same game same server design presumably. Which suggests that load is a factor - and maybe EU players are playing on the US server and/or more copies were sold in the US. Bottomline: there are more people on the US server.
What could happen - wouldn't expect this with todays hardware though - is that "commands" that are queued for processing are being dropped after a certain length of time in the queue: unprocessed. It was a rare issue, in my experience, when hardware was far less powerful - and not nice - but the random nature and the way things seem to be database related makes me wonder.
There are a lot of multi-nation guilds out there who like to play together, so I assume a lot of EU players are playing on the NA server to be with people they have been playing with for years. In the wee hours of the morning I have no issue with ESO. US Primetime is when all the bugs seem to come out in full force. So I also think the megaserver might need to be a tad bit more 'mega' to handle the issues.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Spot on ^ , i see there fixing lots of stuff that was reported and they are not hidding it. Very good you are getting my hopes up with this game.
I give it another month or 2 then everything should sail smoothly. I think i am about to find another mmorpg to play thanks for the link.
I find very good the part they spoke about the spammers, gold seller, etc.. here is a sentence :
-- We have implemented many new things to thwart gold farmers, spammers, and botters.
The gold spammers are relentless in the game. Most of the people i talk to report each one every time. I do as well. But it gets old logging into like 5 new mails expecting to sell that purple weapon and instead all five are from a gold spammer Glad they working on this fast.
In EP from 1-50 at least 15% of quests were bugged for me.
And no they were not evenly spread - starting islands had the least, Stonefalls had several, Deshan had more, Shadowfen had even more, Eastmarch about the same as SF, The Rift had the most...
So it was obvious as I got into 30s and 40s - it wasn't tested nearly as much as early content.
On some nights it felt like I would spend more time writing /bug reports than actually playing the game.
This is a real shame and it's obvious that you are right. The product was not thoroughly tested. I'm not one to get overly bent out of shape about a few bugs or a slightly bumpy release, but this is ridiculous. Again, I'm not playing so thankfully I'm not directly going through it. However, I hate seeing my fellow gamers and community go through this stuff when they threw their $ to Zeni for a fun and at least relatively stable product.
Actually, it's not that bad. Some are having more issues than others, most of us having great time.
I agree that products should be polished much more before a launch. But we live in a world where timing is everything, and people get pressured to meet timelines, compromises happen. That is not an excuse, is just how it goes. ESO is a whole game, one with some issues , but is a whole game. As far as mmorpgs go this was an average launch, but with enough bugs to definitely get some folks riled up. Your fellow gamers and community however are just fine and enjoying the game

No the real shame is this happens time and time again. Because the studios feel they can get away with it due to players giving the industry a pass on it time and time again. The writing was on the wall before launch, everyone knew there was no miracle patch, yet everyone seems to expect one now. They expect all issues to disappear in a period of two weeks...
Then they want to come here at every launch to moan about it, even though they'll go on to do the same sh^t with the next release. Moaning here does nothing, that money you like to complain about spending, the money you use as a crutch to support your bitching is all that mattered to begin with. You just supported the next title who does this, I'm sure you'll still throw them their bone product unseen, reviews unread, state unknown....So no I do not feel bad for them what so ever.
THose I actually feel for are those who know what to expect and still are able to have some fun and stay positive, they're not swimming in a pool of their own creation for no other reason but to bitch about it. I can respect that.

You are blaming the victim a bit much, but I agree with you for the most part. I would just add that there is also a responsibility on the studio to release a quality product or expect massive backlash from your consumers. It's all really just a matter of perspective.
The consumers enable them to have bad practices by buying their shit way too early. The studios should expect major backlash from consumers whenever they don't meet a certain level of quality whether or not they are offering pre-purchase or whatever they want to call it.

Maybe I am and I expect at least a warning for my post, it was hard to keep the rant civil, because I am honestly at my wits end on the topic anymore.
I just feel the industry has been destroyed by this practice more than anything else. I do agree, it's ultimately the studios responsibility in the end.

1. Higher actual testers to play the game. Play it a lot and vigorous. Getting paid per bug that is found. This way they dont have tons of people making thousands of bucks for playing the game and not giving anything to the company, playing slowly ect. Theses people will rush through content over and over trying to find every bug possible. This will help with a decent end product. This should be happening to all games.
or
2. Have smaller beta testing where people must clock in so many hours a week or get cut from the testing group. Gamers will play at their own speed but with a smaller group they can find bugs more calmly and the devs will be able to fix the complaints at a faster rate than scouring the forms to see what is wrong through thousands of threads about the same issue. They should also be given access to all content unlike how betas are where you get 3 days and will only make it to 20-30s with certain things locked. This also wont interfere with stress testing which can still happen on different servers than the current beta team is.
I bet these things still happen but at a smaller size than needed to cut costs. But when they try and cut costs they allow the game to fail. Look at the Lord of the Rings War of the North game. The majority of players got such bad bugs that they couldnt play at all. Their saved files would become corrupt and have to be deleted to actually play again. So many bugs killed the entire game and wasnt fixed until much later when the reviews already came out.

I don't even own the game, i'm just saying the game doesn't seem like it's worth $60. i mean it has no endgame PVE content. That's such a turn off. They could of at least added one raid. I feel most will max out their level and be done with the game.
There are a number of quest fixes in the current patch. They've also been responsive in the past in fixing a lot of them - for example, quests that I had a problem with in beta worked fine on release. So if anyone is honestly concerned about bugs, they seem to be doing a very good job of squashing them. It also looks as if they're tackling some other (legit) issues - related to equitable distribution of loot in instanced group dungeons, farming of public dungeon bosses, and general stability issues.

I remember that too. One of my favorite game reviews ever was about Daggerfall, where they included the comment that getting it to run was like a full time job. I remember the confusing 3D dungeons, where the best tactic for getting around was to work your way through a corner glitch out of the dungeon corridors, levitate, and run around on top of the tunnels to get closer to the entrance and then try to work your way back inside. "Void ranger", I think, was the term. If you ran out of mana, though, you'd drop and drown in the universal ocean below the dungeon geometry...
How's it my fault that I can't complete on average 4-5 quests per zone? How is it my fault that in the end I have nearly every quest completed except for the ones sitting in my quest log because I can't complete them? It's not that I'm not exploring, because I am I have completed almost all of the skyshard achievements. But these quests which don't progress is my fault? Sorry, I didn't design the shoddy server architecture for this game. I didn't say to the development team, "Just send out a broken product."
It's my fault, right.
What alliance do you play? I'm just curious if the daggerfall zones are really broken. Currently have a 39 EP with no bugged quests and an 37 AD with 1(it could be fixed haven't gone back since early access).
Originally posted by Satsunoryu I wish it would not happen, but obviously it will. Some people just have to be defensive, especially when they are enamored with a game. The fact is though, most people post about these issues sincerely, as I believe the OP has. Whether you have experienced the same is of very little consequence. It's easy to look here and in many places on the web to see that the product has a lot wrong with it and the constant downtime is happening for a reason. I do not wish ill on the game, just being observant. I wish they'd get their crap together and hopefully, after they do, they will reward the players' patience that decide to stick around.
Duh, even newly released MMOs from very experienced MMO devs are still really buggy and this is Zenimax first release....
And yes, it sucks even worse with P2P MMOs since you paid for the time, in B2P or F2P you can always just skip a month if it annoys you but here people actually paid for a months gameplay.
The good news is that the bugs of course will be fixed, hopefully soon and experience tells us that almost every MMO got most of the issues fixed 2 months after launch but it is too bad since they risk losing many players who otherwise could have played a long time.
Memory leaks are the most annoying type of bug and a lot harder to fix than most other bugs. That might stay for a while.
