ESO is easily worth the $95 I spent

sludgebeardsludgebeard Member RarePosts: 788

I think there is a great deal of people who wouldnt spend that amount that I spent on ESO, and thats perfectly fine.

Digital Imperial Edition - 79.99

1 - Month Subscription Plan (*Plus 30 days for Digital Ed*) - 14.99

Total - 95.00

That is a large chunk of change no matter how you cut it. But to me its perfect because Ive gotten the exact ESO experiance I wanted.

 - Ability to play as Imperials

 - Ability to play any Race on Any Faction

 - Cool starter Mount

 - A Slew of Vanity Pets and items to help share the experiance with a friend

...And most Importantly, A monthly fee which garuntee's I wont be stopped behind a pay-wall every few hours. Alot of people complain about the monthly fee, I welcome it. Not only for the freedom to play how I want, but also security in knowing that every asshole who wants to come blast the game or troll for the sake of trolling isnt able to just DL the game and do so.

And so far I have only played the game for 16 hours!

Even if you divide the time I have spent in game to the amount I payed, that's 6 dollars an hour, and that amounts only going to get lower. But is that whats important in this scenario? Getting the most bang for my buck?

No its not, at least not for me.

For me whats important is that in that 16 hour span, I created a unique RPG character in one of my favorite RPG universes of all time, and I got to Roleplay that character with other players in a unique MMO experiance! Even if its only a handful of players Rping with me, its a throwback for me to SWG and WoW, where people around me had an imagination and actually wanted to use that in game, rather than burst-running through content.

ESO takes it self seriously in alot of ways, but its never forcing you to keep playing, in fact at the beginning of the game it gives you the freedom to do, pretty much whatever you want.

Dont want to go to the starter Island? Dont have to!

Dont want to fight baddies all day? Dont! Go grab some random loot around town, make some armor, make some potions, some beer, some soup, just go do whatever!

Dont want to read the in game Novels? You dont have to, but much like a typical ES game, they are still laying right there in front of you on a table, and if you want to dig deeper into the lore you can! And the best part is it saves everything for you in your lorebook so you can read them whenever you want!

Even such a small thing like, your bank being linked to all the crafting tables so you dont have to run back and forth from the bank to the crafting station, just makes the game that much more stress free and fun! And thats what I love about ESO, is im literally playing it my way.

You know how theres always those stupid F2P MMO ad's that say "Play it Free, your Way"? And how thats always bullshit because eventually you hit a pay wall, or get locked behind content? In ESO you actually are paying for what you get, your not getting a marketing catch phrase, your getting the real deal. And I respect that, personally, and its not something I expect others to respect but rather something I wanted to point out, just to let it be aware in some way that its how I honestly feel about the game.

So in closing, if your like me and your just happy playing a care-free, engaging, roleplay-ready MMO, get on ESO and have some fun.

And hey, if your not, write a mean Post on the message boards, get it out of your system and move on. The last thing anyone wants or needs is someone who makes it their life goal to try and force their position or opinions on others, because above all else, ESO isnt trying to force its way into your wallet. Its giving you what it claims to give, and thats something that should be celebrated not looked down upon.

Anyways enough of my long-winded post,

Cheers!

Plus the amount of negative posts on here have been so out of hand I wanted to try and tip the balance with a nice positive one :P

You're playing exactly like the developer wants you to play.. just like every other player in the game.

Just like you would be playing if the game was B2P or F2P. The way you play isn't defined by if you pay a monthly sub for it.

I don't know which of the myriad ways to shoot this statement down I should use....

    ..Cake..

I agree that it is money well spent. I've only reached level 20 and I'm having a blast.  My hubby and I have finally found an MMO where we are happily questing together again.

To the OP--I didn't even know that everything goes into your lore book and you can go back later.  I hate to hold anyone up reading through all the books so glad that I can go back and read it later.  There is so much darned lore in this game that at times, it is overwhelming.  Like you, also love the linked bank to all your characters.  Now to just work on my hoarding problems!!

I think that ESO has a little of everything and it is fun figuring out what I'm going to do during my play sessions.  If I could have one improvement, it would be fishing.  Love to fish but would like to see this system tweaked a bit to be more interesting and rewarding.

Your correct, I poorly articulated two seperate points I was trying to make.

One point was that the game doesnt force you to go one path aka Combat over crafting or exploration.

And the other was that F2P games generally restrict content, forcing you down a certain path.

I disagree with what you said about playing how the developer wants, because the whole negative implication of the F2P model is that you are only playing content the developer is ALLOWING you to play. Forcing you to plug in your credit card to get more of something that is already there to begin with.

So basically a long winded justification for spending $95. Why do you need to tell everyone.

It really depends on the F2P model... RIFT never felt like that.

Funny how you can feel happy about 95 dollars. Then you go and look at people in f2p games who drop multiples of what you spent. Only to wish they had your feelings for more than a few weeks. Wish more consumers were like you. Maybe then we'd have a higher quality of mmos in general.

I guess the post is ok because he speaks positive about the game. If for some reasons someone claimed that he wasted 95$ will auto accused as a troll.

Question is why do some posters need to tell everyone how they don't like ESO? Or should I even ask why do so many feel giddy when someone starts yet another complain thread that they jump right in and start bashing this game?

Reading something positive after a while cannot be that bad, can it?

Edit: Just read your post history and I must say that you really hate ESO with passion. My condolences.

But if someone makes a thread to bash the game it's okay.

I'm enjoying the game, it's definitely well worth the box price plus subscriptions.  Saved a little by doing the 6 month.

I really like the pace of leveling not too fast not too slow like the old days.

The quests are run of the mill but the way they have it setup you basically have to explore the entirety of the maps which makes it immersive if you like exploring.  Also, when exploring there will be a bunch of quests that you run into instead of having to go back ot the same spot, get the quest, finish the quest, and then run back to that spot to turn in and get more.  I really like that.

The best part about the game is the customization.  Being able to equip any weapon I want, any armor I want, any skills I want as long as I have the skill point for it is simply amazing.  You can have endless builds for all kinds of situations.

There are quite alot of bugged quests, long loading times for zones, skills not going off when you want it to sometimes but in time I believe they will be ironed out.

All in all, a superb game well worth the month for me so far.  As far as long term, I'm hoping it will last me the 6 months but if it doesn't I'm sure as hell enjoying it for as long as i can before or if I ever get bored. :)
