Defiance: Arktech Revolution DLC Launches

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Trion Worlds has announced that the fifth DLC for Defiance has officially launched. Called "Arktech Revolution", the new content brings a ton of new features to free players including an increased EGO rating cap, EGO rating progression, expert co-op maps, dynamic event scaling and much more. Subscribers will also receive a Chimera Arktech Kit, access to daily Chimera contracts and more.

  • Expert Co-Op Maps: Team up with your fellow ark hunters to tackle new expert versions of all co-op maps featuring the new enemy difficulty tiers! Defeating these challenging instances will not only reward you boasting rights but also new special tokens that can be spent to purchase legendary weapons and mods directly from certain vendors.

  • Dynamic Event Scaling: Events will now dynamically adjust their difficulty based on the players participating in or joining them. Low EGO rating players will be able to stand in fights with these high-level foes by means of a special temporary buff.

Is there still anybody playing this? I remember steam used to have upwards of 5 to 7 k on at launch now it isn't even in the top 50 anymore.

I liked the idea of what Defiance is, but sometimes game devs do to little, to late. In this case it wasn't the first impression that will keep me from coming back, it's all the other games on my list and one of those is Destiny. So I don't want to get burnt out on that game type. I would recommend it to others though because it is a fun game and if it's actually challenging now it will feel rewarding as well.

They are never going to get more players because everyone views this game as something just waiting to be shut down, like Lord of the Rings Online, so nobody new wants to put in any time into it

Is it even making Trion any money? I remember City of Heroes had content planned for years but they still suddenly shut down for good

That's a miss by a mile... (on both cases but LotRO would be off, so let's just focus on Defiance)

If that mentioned "everyone" is waiting for something, that'd be more like season 2. As I wrote a few months ago when the trial went live, season 2 launch in June will be the moment when Trion's implemented unlimited trial option will shine. With no entry barrier, and with the (hopefully well-written ties to the) show will most likely generate a player influx for the game. Probably backed up with some sales for those who reach the 500 EGO and want to play further.

Until that, the DLC's are fine for those who are in game right now. (to be honest, I'm not in there atm. Plan to go back in June. but that "everyone ... just waiting to be shut down" line needed some answer even if I don't play right now. Defiance is a good game, and also an average / decent show - which means "awesome" in SyFy terms :) )

With this patch the game takes the definitive shape, now need some tweaking and then Trion must begin to really add some content but it's getting better(and tougher)after every patch.

Euro PC servers are full of people and the game runs pretty well, there's still much work  to do by Trion but this update is the proof that the game will not die so soon.

I originally played Defiance on PS3 last year and had fun but never bought any dlc. I even liked the SyFy series and will be looking forward to next season.

On the flip side no one I know bothered with this title or cares to no matter how much Trion tweaks it. We all have our favorites but hearing Defiance will be more challenging may get people back in to give it a shot. As for the game dying I don't think it will as long as people support the cash shop or buy dlc when offerred.

Season 2 will be on SyFy this June too so at the very least there's definitely life left here for those who are interested.
