Despite not enjoying playing tanks, I do love the aesthetic of a one-hander and a shield. I also like sniping things from the distance.
What would be a good setup for a character like this? Am I shooting myself in the foot with going with a shield while playing a DPS class (and I'd assume wearing medium armor)?
Thanks for any insight! I feel a bit overwhelmed by the options!

You'll probably find yourself using Bow most of the time and switching to Shield when trying to deal with multiple mobs at close range. Dragonknight has plenty to keep you alive alongside Shield's passives to make you survive the slower fights.
In group content, you'll probably want to swap out your Shield skill bar to have more focus on utility and primarily stay in your Bow.
Very few people regularly swap between weapons in combat, it is entirely possible to competitive with one weapon / five skills and only swap out for the odd piece of utility.
