Melee VS Ranged

ThodraThodra Member UncommonPosts: 444

Hello there.

At the moment I'm debating with myself which class I should stick with, as I wanna stick with one char only

I like both melee and caster, maybe being a melee guy more, but I do have a problem I hope I'm not the only one.

My caster (Dawn's Wrath Templar) can pretty much finish every single quests in one try.

When I do the same quests with my melee Dragon Knight I seem to die one or twice before I finish it.. I'm doing my best with it. Anyone here experiencing the same thing? If I'm not suppose to die more as a melee please say so...

Thanks in advance!

Stick with whatover you are having more fun with.  I play a melee dragon knight and I love it.  You will get over the learning curve of playing melee if dying is frustrating.

Every class can use every weapon, so the answer is... yes?

I use both and switch between them in combat Two-Handed Sword/Inferno Staff, Im a templar too.  I put mainly stamina and melee ranged skills on my 2hander skill set and magicka skills on my destruction staff skill set.

My main is a heavy armor-wearing Dawn's Wrath/healing Templar hybrid and he can handle anything... usually easily.

One of my alts is a medium armor-wearing siphoning Nightblade and she can pretty much handle anything; lots of DPS and an ability to heal herself.

My sorceror has lots of DPS, but can't heal herself, so she can only handle those mobs she can kite easily... which is most.  She has lots of DPS but no ability to heal herself, plus light armor; not quite a glass cannon, but damn close.

My Dragonknight has gone through four builds (I've deleted three prior characters).  I wanted him to be strictly melee.  I found out, however, that pure melee classes, no matter what build you use, do not survive well in the game.  So, he has a bow and a staff, even though I'm not using skills for those weapons, and he has a self-healing skill.  That brings him ALMOST up to par with the sorceror since his DPS is still inadequate.

Between Beta, early start, and all the hours I've put into the game on four characters, I've come to the conclusion that (a) heavy armor doesn't really buy you anything; (b) melee DPS is really inadequate; (c) you absolutely MUST have some kind of self-healing capability; and (d) a ranged capability is essential.  YMMV

Maybe that's my problem then. Course I want to go pure melee?
