Sony Online Entertainment has just announced that it will be hosting a live stream event tonight to show off the just-announced H1Z1, SOE's new entry into the MMO space.

Just revealed last week, the first livestream of Sony Online Entertainment's upcoming zombie survival MMO, H1Z1, will take place at 4 pm PT / 7 pm ET tonight! Set in a post-apocalyptic world, players must fight to survive against zombies, animals and other survivors in H1Z1.

If you are available and interested in checking the game out in-action, be sure to tune in tonight at: http://www.twitch.tv/h1z1.

Be there at the appointed hour (that's 10 minutes from now!)

looks like it is going to be better than DayZ standalone in every way.

considering DayZ standalone is a piece of shit though.... that wont be hard.

I was kind of hoping for more than just a dayz mmo...oh well.

Hey guys lets all jump on the DayZ clone bandwagon. at least they could have made the game somewhat original.

Just don't see what the big deal is, can just play Dayz or Rust. Why is Smed trying to do whats already been done so many times,  how many online zombie games come out last year?

Biggest difference I would say is the hosted persistent servers for a large player base and not this host your own server for 100 people stuff. It's the only AAA developer made one as far as I am aware of. Which means in 4 months they've got as much progress on the game as DayZ standalone has had in... how long have they been working on it?

You don't like it, just move along. For me I was actually hoping someone would take the DayZ idea and make an actual MMO out of it rather than a lobby game with disposable characters.

Why can't someone just make a survival apocolypse MMO like the book/movie The Road or better yet, The Road Warrior.  Then you can have non-undead people who want to eat you instead of the way overly done zombie type game.

Think the biggest problem here is that Smedley was touting this game as the next big game for SWG fans.....the guy obviously has his finger far from the SWG gamers pulse, just a ridiculous statement to make, no this is not what SWG fans were wanting, expecting or hoping for.

Sure it is pretty cool step forward for DayZ/Infestation type games, though it looks like a carbon copy with hardly anything else interesting atm, the large persistent world should set it apart at least. It probably wouldn't receive as much criticism though if Smedley would have chosen his words more wisely and not touted as the next coming.

They might have done much in a short time but dont forget, they have SOEs ressources behind them. So basicly if they need a coder for a few days or have a problem they can just ask in other departments/dev teams and a day later or so they have what they need. That is a big plus and reduces dev time by a lot. I didnt understand the number 100%, they have 30 people working on it atm?

The stream didnt impress me very much but the main reason is because it was unorganized and the game is in alpha. They will probably improve models and such while adding/testing new stuff. Also some features were mentioned in just a short sentence. F.e. as I understand it, there will be a build in voice chat that adds to you character noise level: talk to loud and you attract zombies. Granted, people will just use another voip to avoid that but it is a nice idea. Would have been nice to hear more about if it will be possible to create guilds/clans of some sorts and if they can have a fixed spawn point in their own town but I guess they will talk about stuff like that on a later stream or on reddit.

Much potential, let's hope they can make something nice out of it.

I don't know why people keep bringing up DayZ.  Yes dayz has zombies and survival, but it's also clunky and dated like it was made in graphic design class by highschool kids.  Everything about DayZ is bad, the movement, the interface, the graphics, the engine, the animations, every single thing that can be bad is bad.  The only thing DayZ made popular was the concept of a multiplayer survival game, now it's time to let the big boys take it from here.  H1Z1 is definitely rough around the edges, but unlike DayZ, H1Z1 will continue to improve as it gets more and more polished.

Which really means they just want to throw this one together and rush it out ASAP and make $.

If this was in development for 3-4 years like any AAA MMO with a AAA budged - yeah.

But this looks cheap, is a cheap idea, and is done fast and cheap.

So it's a tripple CCC game from a AAA studio.

At least that's the vibe I'm getting out of it.

They should be bringing something new and mindblowing forward - and yet they pick the SAFEST route - a zombie survival game - but it's new because it will be massive......

The reality is - this is a throwaway small project game for SOE - all they really have going at this time is Landmark (which is not doing so hot) - and their true gem is EQNext - which better deliver.

If EQNext flops - SoE is done - my opinion.

Kinda like Trion making Trove? What's wrong with a AAA dev making a smaller game along side their massive projects? Trove got the EXACT same criticism you are giving H1Z1 and yet you rave about that game.

I love Trove as well for the record.

Looks awesome. It's already substantially farther along than DayZ is or will be within even a year.

Exactly.  People like to bash games because some of the concepts are similar to other games that are already out, but what the fanbois fail to bring up is that DayZ has been out for over 2 years and has gone nowhere.  They haven't improved it at all.  Now that a real game company has the reins maybe the zombie survival game genre might actually reach its potential.

if you watched their stream today and didnt know better you would swear you were watching a DayZ stream.

and you ask why people keep bringing it up? because H1Z1 is a jump on the bandwagon DayZ clone game. I like what one person said here

its a CCC game made by a AAA studio. i mean there is no innovation to it and nothing to advance the genre its a cash grab plain and simple

I would've been able to tell you right away it wasn't DayZ because the zombies and players didn't move like robots and the graphics were 100 times better.  The stream today was far from all inclusive, I don't know what you expected to see.  We got a little sneak peek of the crafting and that definitely has potential.

... It's free to play, who is grabbing your money? Using nifty buzzwords (CashGrab), and in an invalid way, does not help your post. Also, DayZ isn't an MMO. DayZ isn't a persistent world being shaped by the players at a massive level. That alone makes this a much bigger deal.

Feeling very apathetic actually, if the game was out today or canceled today, it wouldn't even matter to me either way.

I find even the name so uninspired - ooh, h1n1 and change n to z because its a zombie game... /cringe.

Why not just call it something that has no Z in it at all?

People are smart enough to figure out a zombie game when they see one.

I would agree with you, but it seems you hate on EVERYTHING.

With games like DayZ and Cubeworld promising these amazing games that never deliver I am happy for AAA devs to step up and create similar concepts that will actually be developed and finished in my lifetime.

I'm all for indie devs but some of them get in way over their heads.

I found this video quite interesting, especially Smed's comments regarding player made fortress's

The forgelight engine is amazing and it only makes good sense to take complete advantage of it. Really looking forward to some of SOE's upcoming releases. They are going to truly be next gen.

Call me a carebear or whatever you want, but I would love to see just one of these zombie survival  community building games actually be made cooperative instead of just a pvp gankfest with zombies as background.

Well it looks interesting and it could find a certain amount of success if done right. However if they would apply this energy to creating a true SWG successor they could have a major hit on their hands. Imagine the Planetside 2 engine, combat and an alternate lore, along with the professions, crafting and the open sandbox of SWG.

I'm a big fan of the walking dead and playing a walking dead mmo could be fun for a while, but SOE you could do so much better.
