A little help here, please?

My wife and I are looking for a good mmorpg to play together. Here are some of the features we are looking for:

-English (lol).

-Ability to team. (Not all mmorpgs have that.)

-Involved quests. We don't mind the "Kill X monsters" or "Deliever package to X person" quests but we would like something with multi-part quests or linking quests too.

-Has to have mages, archers, or something of that nature. We are obsessed with ranged characters or "glass cannons" as some people call them.

-Little to no PvP. PvP can be fun sometimes but we don't like being ganked while trying to level up.

-Nice community and economy. Eventhough we plan to mainly team with only each other, it would be nice to be able to recruit some nice people sometimes or just hang around and talk. As for the economy, I have played games where prices would skyrocket because of dupping hacks or people just placing insane prices on items. We would like for the game to have a mostly stable economy where prices rise and fall normally.

Optional features:

-Professions

-Pets

Games we have tried:

-CoH (1 1/2 years - Got boring.)
-CoV (2 Months - Got boring.)
-WoW (5 Days - What a load of crap and a waste of money.)
-Conquer Online (2 Days - Botters - Crap.)
-SilkRoad (2 Weeks - Boring after a while.)
-Monster & Me (6 Days - Sooo repetitive.)
-MU Online (3 Days - Are you kidding me?)
-Astonia 3 - (3yrs - Quit to play other games. Still reactivate every two months to get orbs, lol.)
-RYL (1 Week - Boring after a while.)
-Knight Online (1 Month - Boring after a while.)
-Ferentus (Currently playing, been playing 4 days and starting to get bored.)

Our PCs:

Mine: 2.8ghz/1.5gb/80gb/WinXP/XFX GeForce 7800 GT PCIe x16 256MB
Hers: 2.6ghz/1gb/40gb/WinXP/Asus GeForce 6800 GT PCIe x16 256MB

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

hmm...maybe Everquest 2. Dungeons & Dragons online will soon be released too, which is also relies heavy on grouping. it has a lot what your looking for. I also apologies for ruining your topic because most of the comming replies will now be about how much D&DO sucks and that you should avoid it at all cost ::::12::

I would say eq2 as well, has a lot of what you are looking for.

The heritage quests alone would make this an option if you REALLY want involving quests.

And you both have rigs to run it at a decent or above decent setting.

Get the trial at least, nothing to loose there.

Or Anarchy Online, a bit older but should suit you ok as well, graphics are ok but nothing compared to eq2 obviously.

And as a matter of fact, I have 3 complete ( AO/NW/Sl/AI ) sets of keys for AO that they gave away this Xmas, they should still be valid.

I think that is the entire game +1 month of play.

LoL. i love it...bash WoW always!

at any rate. you both sound like ya missed the boat. i knew a few couples that loved to play SWG together. It had both the 'kill x monster' and more indepth linked ones, and they range from super easy to nigh-impossible. PvP was a choice, and the community was amazing in my opinion.

that being said the game is much different that when it used to be, so the combat may not be what you are looking for, as its obviously a sci-fi and not fantasy, so the bows are lasers and the combat updates have changed alot of the dynamics of the game have changed. The crafters were basically the victims of genocide via Developers, so it took them outta the running unless ur an armoursmith selling faction armour, so the economy, which was the best i had ever seen, is ruined. (which is why i dont play anymore)

oh and theres too many jedis now...

All in all though. SWG might be worth a look for you guy still.

I didn't mean to sound like I was bashing the game, I just call it as I see it. I had my CoH family telling me and my wife that we should try it and we kept resisting because we were dedicated CoH and didn't like how WoW was snatching our friends right and left, lol. So after dealing with quite a bit of our friends leaving and not being able to deal with all the nerfs Cryptic was smacking us with, we finally got WoW.

My first impression, while making my character, was, "Where are the gorgeous graphics my friends were raving about?!". Sure, they were nice, crisp, and clear but they weren't all amazing like they were saying. Anyway, so after making my character, I enjoyed the nice intro story and the pan over the area leading to my character. After changing the keybindings to my liking, I started my adventure. I had the game guide (no, I don't usually buy them but it came as a package deal with the game. *shrugs*) so I followed the guide to do the quests, find NPCs, and figure out what all I had to do. Ok, wait, I'm not going to go into the long story, lol, I know that people don't always like to read. Anyway, it seemed that I had a problem with each type of character I tried. Mages ran out of mana too fast, Rogues had to keep waiting for energy and combo points, and hunters...well, I had no problems with Hunters, just got bored with the combat system and slow leveling by the time I got to being a Hunter. I had no interest in the other types

I know that it sounds like I barely gave the game a chance but when a game starts off soo slow, I tend to shoot it down before I get to that "turning point" level. One of my friends said that level would be around lvl20 but I just couldn't stick it out with my characters that long, it was way too boring. Oh gawd, and having to run, slowly, everywhere I wanted to go was horrible and I found out that I don't get a mount until level40?! Are you kidding me? lol. My wife stopped playing it after she got her Rogue to level 5 because she said that the game was just too bland for her. So it all boils down to, the game was crap to us and all the hype was just that, hype. Sorry if that sounds like bashing.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions so far. We have looked at SWG before but had no interest in it. I liked the movies but I truely don't think that we would be into the game. We have looked at EQ2 too and from reading the site, we think that we are going to give it a shot. More suggestions will still be welcomed though and I would like to thank yall again for the help.

How about Final Fantasy XI? Seems to fit most of your qualifications:

It's in English--while it's also Japanese, the English-speaking community is equally large and most everybody on during prime time US hours will be speaking English. There's even a chat-accessible phrasebook (with the over-ambitious name of "auto-translate") to help you do rudimentary communication with those who speak only Japanese.

FFXI is very team oriented; indeed, the problem that many people who don't like it have with it is that grouping is pretty much required to advance. But that does mean possible party members are more available than they would otherwise be.

Some of the quests are pretty involved, and there are multi-part quests and linking quests.

You got mages (Black Mages) and you got archers (Rangers) and they're both pretty much glass cannons. Note that Ranger is an advanced class; you'll have to level something else to 30 before you can unlock it (but the quest to unlock it is a snap).

The only PvP is in prescheduled matches that you have to join (and you have to qualify for a license for first) called Ballista. You will not as a general rule be ganked while levelling up; such gank attempts have to be done indirectly as they can't attack you, and recent rule changes have made even that much more difficult.

I have found the FFXI community very nice and helpful. The economy is going through some inflation at the moment, but remains functional and vital. Prices are rising mostly across the board, meaning you can earn the money to get what you need. I will admit I am not sure if this meets your definition of "mostly stable" or not. FFXI has one of the most player-run economies out there.

In addition to levelling up your jobs (you can switch freely between classes in FFXI, although you level each one separately), you can also level up crafting skills, which I think pretty much meets your request for "professions".

There are three separate pet-using jobs (Beastmaster, Summoner and Dragoon--note that all three of these are also advanced jobs).
