I wonder what class/race/job is the most newbie friendly?
I come from WoW and after being 60 for months, I'm rather bored. My Mage is so broken!
I heard DAoC is a good game and going to try it out.
Also if you are new, let's try this game out together ^^ The more the merrier!

I just started playing myself, same deal as you,was playing WoW for over a year hit 60 and got tired of raiding and waiting forever to get into Battlegrounds.
I started DAoC on the Merlin server playing Midgard as a Dwarf Thane.Great community so far I have had so much help there and always have people to group with even at the low levels.
I am only level 7 so if you do start on the same realm and play Midgard I'd be happy to adventure with you,we can swap some WoW war stories lol.
Warfran-Dwarven Thane
Just wondering... in this game there are three different realms right? Or factions as in WoW.
Are the classes in each realm different from the other realm? Or are they basically the same class except with diferent name?
I'm thinking of becoming a Blademaster since the name sounds cool but since you are in Midgard and if the classes are basically the same, then I'll become a Mercenery.
Also, what classes are the most overplayed and the least played? I've seen Rogues and Hunters in WoW suffer because they couldnt get a group.
Yep 3 different factions like WoW,can't talk to each other like Alliance and Horde.
Haven't been playing long enough to see what classes are the most common.
There are differences between all the 3 realms in characters,I haven't seen 2 classes that have the exact same abilites even when the main class is the same, lots of variation it seems, more so than WoW.
3 Realms, no communication between the 3. Fight each other in the Frontiers instead of COntested Areas like in WoW.
Completely different. There are some which are similar, but still unique in their own way.
If you're going to go Midgard then the light tank equivilant to the Blademaster that you're looking for would be probably the 'Zerker. Savage is pretty similar as well, but a bit more complex than your regular dual wielding light tank.
Rogues by their nature tend to get groups less often in most every game. Most of their abilities lead them to be better played as a soloer. Same with the Archer classes in general. As for most or least played I've always found that you enjoy the game far more if you just play what appeals to you rather than worrying about what everyone else thinks of your character choice. And well, it is a game after all, having fun is kinda the point isn't it?

Count me in as another ex-WoW'er who hit 60 and said...now what?
I've been playing DAoC for about 3 weeks now and am hooked. I play on a RP server right now, but would also join up with you over on Merlin! I'll play a Thane...I think it's best to play the first few levels solo...but stop at 4 and we'll run into the BG and try to earn some honor for Midgard! (No realm points yet, just XP)
I'm CST and I play all different times, but only about 15 hours a week (only!).
Hope to run into the both of you soon! If you're playing the trial...make sure to look out for the post that deals with running it with the improved Catacombs engine.
Sekrog-Troll Warrior 13-Nimue

Great to see all the WoW players coming over to DAoC,I have a few more ingame friends there who are about to jump ship as well.
The game has been a blast for me,I wish I had come over here a little earlier.
Sekrog I am already past level 4 but ready for the next Battleground level 6-10 when you get there.
Thane power,I like that,I hear Thanes are pretty good in numbers
Hope to see you in game soon.
ps:Maybe we should start a Guild of ex WoW players,I know I've met a fair amount of them ingame already.
Hey Warfan...just made up Sorenthor...lvl1 Thane and runninig first beginning quests
Shouldn't take me long to get to 8-9...give me a yell in-game.
Awesome! I'm currently patching the game so I'm going to try out soon.
One last question :
Caerleon cluster:
Iseult
Kay
Lancelot
Pellinor
Devon cluster:
Bedevere
Galahad
Igraine
Morgan Le Fay
Tristan
Killibury cluster:
Bors
Gawaine
Merlin
Palomides
These are the lists of the normal servers. I think I'm going into normal server because it's what the most poplular are ^^
Just wondering, what are the different clusters here?
Viva la revolution! Wecome! Looks like it'll be on the Merlin server...I'm out there right now but signing off soon. If y'all stop at lvl 4 (except Warfan who's already 7) we can head into the BG for noobs and try our hand at taking a keep!
Keep in touch in-game
Don't forget to download the Catacomb graphic update for the trial.
The link is on this forum.
Sorenthor - Norse Thane - noob

This is so cool! I'm glad people are coming over.
I started a few months ago, but left WoW too. Guys, I promise you that the PvP in this game is superior in so many ways. I've got some friends at work that I'm slowly bringing over. They are playing WoW now, but one of my friends started playing DAoC with me and she's spreading the word to the other girl gamers in my office. They're very curious, and very bored with WoW. hehe. I don't think it's going to be long before they're on this game too.
I think I might create an alt on Merlin so I can play with you guys. I've been playing a Hib but I soooo want to check out the landscape on the Midgard side.
Yipee!!!
=============================
It all seems so stupid
It makes me want to give up
But why should I give up
When it all seems so stupid
It is amazing...I'm stoked!(that term dates me I'm afraid)
I'm stopping at level 4...I really want to go into BG at this noob level...
I'm hoping most who posted here are up for it as well
Hope to see you all soon
Sorenthor
Viking soon to be Thane (level 5)
Merlin Server
Sadly, chances of finding anyone in the BG on Merlin prior to level 20 is highly unlikely althought I wish you good luck on your search.
I see action in the lowbie BGs quite often. It is the 25-29 BG that is just always empty. I guess those levels just come so fast or something that no one bothers to go.

Kunou, just a quick question for you,on the Catacomb forums, many people are saying that the Thane is a gimped class for RvR.
I know forums have lots of varied opinions making it tough sometimes to get a "true" overall feel for a class.
I am having a lot of fun with my Thane and would like to stick with him,but would like to know if you think it would be a good idea to create another Fighter more geared to RvR such as a Warrior or maybe a Skald.
I don't want to find that after a while as I move up in levels that I won't be able to get groups for RvR or just not be competitive overall in PvP.
Thanks in advance.
It is a fairly common opinion about Thanes unfortunately. HOWEVER, if you enjoy the class by all means play it. I've stated several times that I'm of the opinion you should always play what you enjoy, not what people around you think you should or shouldn't play. Also keep in mind that several classes are due up in a very near future patch for changes and updates, based solely on player feedback. According to Sanya in the Friday Grab Bag it is some of the Hybrids and Assassins in the next patch. That could change of course, but thats the plan as of now.
Long story short, if you enjoy the class play it. It is afterall a game, which DOES infact mean you should enjoy yourself right?

Thanks for the quick response as usual Kunou
True I am having great fun with my Thane so based on what you told me I see no reason right now to change.
Good to hear that the hybrids are being considered in the next patch, thats good enough for me.
By the time I get to serious RvR things could change,as is always the case in a MMO.
Thanks again.
Coolies, glad I could help. Just please keep in mind that just because it was mentioned in the Grab Bag in no way means that things might not come up and plans get changed etc. Until you see it in the official patch notes as having been implemented take nothing for granted. Plus it also didn't say which hybrids would be the ones getting attention so who knows... Not trying to change your mind or anything, just making sure you don't get your hopes up toooooo high, cause as anyone knows, you never can tell when it comes to MMOs.

Okay, I'm starting up a trial account and downloading Catacombs and ToA as well. I'm a former DAoC player but I'm going play the trial and then if I like how it plays, I'll restart my old account.
Where are we all now? Which server?!?

I believe a lot of them have characters on Alb Gareth, could be wrong though but think thats it. And somewhere on Merlin too I think...
