In today’s Landmark column, we’ll be discussing part of the recent Landmark Live show, which introduced two new features into the game, as well as talking for a short while about the game’s upkeep system, which some of my friends online have noted can use a bit of discussion: the nature of upkeep for player housing.

Information is lacking,is the glass actually see through,is it breakable?Example ,can you break the glass and jump through the window?
The system needed to keep a claim sounds really lame, the answer is NOT an offline reminder but to simply change and make it better, more like one week is a more viable and fair time frame or as mentioned perhaps a long term system of payment.[mod edit]
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Yes, if you ever played SWG, you will understand why. They had ghost towns of buildings, which I am sure also helped kill some population and feel for the game (not being able to place in prime areas, because people that didn't play anymore had taken the spots and left). The 300 copper per day is easy to get, I can get thousands of copper in a couple minutes. The 5 day thing should be increased though, I think, but it is tricky with it being f2p.
The devs stated that by unlocking achievements, we will be able to pay up to 30 days in advance. It is in one of the earlier twitch videos. Upkeep for now is in copper, but will change to ingame currency which will drop of mobs or selling items to merchants.
The game is free-to-play, if you do not pay upkeep, you only loose your spot. Claim flag and anything built on the claim will be returned to you. In my opinion that is a good method of keeping the islands (gameworld) clean and not cluttered with inactive accounts, especially those people who logon only once, put down a claim and never ever return.
I think for right now the 5 days is a good thing. It keeps prime areas in the hands of active testers. Long term they'll need a better solution but like you said they need to avoid the SWG situation.
They've said it many times already that the current upkeep system is temporary. Think about it. This is BETA. They want people in BETA who actually test the game, play it, report bugs. They don't want people who decide to log on only once a week. People confuse BETA with live. It will be a different, longer period in the live version.
And no, glass cannot be broken (yet?).
