No a special snowflake would be someone who flames every thread on a specific game with their double standards, crying, whining, and acting like somehow the game devs are taking advantage of them. Now that would be a special snowflake.
I see you are still trying to put words into my mouth. I never said devs are taking advantage of me. You really love to make imaginary arguments just for the sake of it.
Hmm maybe you forgot this line...
the gaming industry is the only one where it's customers are expect to bend over and take it...
nope that's what you said I'm not making anything up. I personally have never been bent over taken advantage of by a VIDEO GAME, but if you feel this way it must have happened to you . Hence why you feel the need to have some crusade against eso and anyone who likes it.
Hes right though.
The gaming industry gets away with a myriad of things that would land any other profession in court or possibly jail. There is no consumer protection - period and devs use this to their advantage.
Your emotions are coming into play here- FAR too much.
I dont blame the devs , however- People will generally do whatever they can get away with. Its all off topic though and not overly important in the context of this discussion.
As someone said " If you cannot do a better job you cannot be critical and point out flaws/faults."=- Only in gaming and the 'art' world is this true. But even Art can be returned for a refund.
You lie gaming? Me too. Great. But blind defense is hurting the industry above anything else.
Its still okay to call a spade a spade.
The gaming companies do not get away with more. Give me some examples here this argument is a joke . The issue is today's gamers not the companies you have these kids who grew up getting everything handed to them being told how great they are and how they don't need to work to get ahead. So now these kids start playing mmos and crying about subs and how they games really are not f2p and now need advocacy groups to protect then . Protect them from what ? From having to pay for a video game ?
Please give me some examples of how video games are different from anything else beside the users generally are more fickle that's why we have haters crying, whining, flaming and trolling every game on these sites.

Just 1 example?
I purchased a vanity item from Anet for GW1 and it did not work. The item cause missing legs/textures . I kindlty sent and email and screenshot of the problem along with DXdiag (showing I have 10x the system requirments needed) and was told "too bad=- The eula states...blah...blah..."
Only in gaming.
That is just one issue.
And dude, its the "kids" and "kiddies" who seem to be the most accepting of this garbage (you have it bacword)- I am an old schooler and my older friends feel very much the same.
I can give more examples but am not trying to derail the thread. But anything I purchase that is defective can and will be replaced EXCEPT in gaming. Thats one small issue that adds to the whole.
Some folks just described another duping bug on the official forum - log in and out from the game few times and you get that many hierling mails with materials. LOL this game is so broken.
We are not just talking about one game...please try to follow along it's really not that hard. We are talking about the gaming industry. Now if you are having issues please stay out of the conversation . Thanks
I am also talking about industry in general. Aren't you one of the crowd which keeps defending these companies with excuses like 'get used to it because it happens in every MMO'?
You still didn't answer my question though.... on what basis you are giving free pass to companies and put all blame on shoulder of players?
What compels you to be an apologist on behalf of these companies who keep pushing their shoddy products in the market?

I had a contractor come out and refinish my floors, he ended up destroying them taking my money and we had to install new floors. I was out a lot more money than a vanity pet. Again I said examples of things the gaming industry does that different and worse than others.

In a way he is correct.
I too blame the players. They get emotionally invested and hype the game to no extent and then begin to associate themselves with the "brand"- If players were objective and voted with their dollars devs would never get away with what they have/are.

I am an Electrician in the building trades. If you used a liscensed company they will be required to fix all the issues or you could drag them to court and they could lose their liscense.

I don't apologize for them, in my experience when I have had issues it's been resolved about 90% of the time, the other 10% the time the issue, bug or whatever didn't stop me from continuing on. These are video games if I run into a video game I have an issue with or don't like guess what I move on there are plenty of games out there. To sit around in a forum an act like I'm being bent over because of a VIDEO GAME is pathetic.

There are two sides to every coin.
Who's white knighting? Find one post where I said these are not issues? This all started from one poster I called out for trolling every single eso thread. I didn't defend the game, yeah sorry I'm not white knighting, I just don't think gaming companies are out to get me .
I just want to see how Zenimax will deal with all those people who developed their crafting skills to max levels in few days ie. by buying legendary runes for 10 golds from guild stores. Runes extracted from duplicated glyphs. Sellers (who were doing the duping) were banned alright but buyers (who actually benefited from duping ) are playing and laughing. Often it is the same person just with 2 accounts.
This depends a lot on how they did the bans. If the toons who did the duping did the crafting they're banned. And, more to the point, this is a place where the lack of a global auction house helps. The crafting is a lot of fun for the people playing the game to make things for themselves; so someone else jumping ahead of you doesn't have a long-term impact.

I honestly don't get why people who don't play the game and aren't interested in it spend so much time on message boards, with incredibly large numbers of posts, just to repeatedly trash the game. There are some people here who are, you know, enjoying the game and might even like to discuss it. As opposed to meta-discussions about the gaming industry, or payment models, or just endless attacks.

No I am not bullshit, he came in with all the papers saying he was insured went through a reputable website to find him. He had a history of creating business pulling this scam and making a new business .
Yes I'm aware we have filed a lawsuit will never see the money and a complaint with the AG. Now you can call bs all you want feel free to PM and I will give you a link to the site I used with my review also his bbb of two accounts .
Okay- Fair enough...However you signed a contract I am assuming and if he were not liscened he could not work legally. The remedy IS court. His wages will be garnished and possibly even have a lien placed on his home.
Having consumer protection (you do in this case) still isnt a guarentee of getting your money back right now- But it will happen.
With the curret laws (in the USA) contracters are bending over backword to make the consumer happy because your licensing and entire way of life can be taken from you. Tat isnt to say there isnt "fly by night" organizations- But overall.
Granted there are cases that can be brought forth and scams (like anything) but you DO have legal protections and MOST contracters fear losing their license more than bad 'word of mouth'. It means no longer being employed in a silled trade where there is decent money to be made and flipping burgers (what else is left?)
It sounds (to me) like the contractor you used was not insured and licensed and thus you have a hell of a case- If he is you will still win and his insurance will pay out.
My pint is, you still have protections and although it may suck- You will get recompense.
EDIT- Not even going to attempt to fix my horrid grammar here- =/
I am an Electrician in the building trades. If you used a liscensed company they will be required to fix all the issues or you could drag them to court and they could lose their liscense.
now you are full of shit.

Yep I've learned all about the laws during this process it will sit on his record for ten years until he pays. Anyways my point was the gaming industry is not alone in screwing people over.

Sure- I would agree.
But they are nearly alone in the consumer having zero protections...Period.
They are nearly alone in being able to make tons of promises and then sell an item which does not even come close and you legally can do nothing (even exchange)- I pre ordered Fable (on the Xbox) log ago based on following the devs and their own words. The product I recieved was not what I was sold.
"If you see a mountain waaay off in the distance- You can walk there in this open world freeform sandbox- " was a (paraphrase) comment and [point they continually made. In fact, a week before pre orders they made claims which were totally bogus.
Any other industry would have major legal ramifications for doing such- Except gaming. Only in gaming was I told "no exchanges and refunds" regardelss of the fact the game was sold as something it wasnt. EDIT- Whats even funnier (is funnier a word lol) is that Game Stop refused to exchange and the reason I bought the damn game was based on their hyping the game in their Game Informer magizine. The devs words were in black and white across a years worth of issues damn near- The game was not what was sold and Game Stop (who promoted the devs words) would not exchange the pos. =P
I learned about pre orders and promises/hype. Hell, everyone now pretty much knows that dev speak means NOTHING and yet they get away with it again and again and again.
I want consumer protection in games.
Devs know that selling a million low dollar items that do not make the grade will get them in no trouble. Who is going to sue over $50? But the profit is still the same (or more) than a high dollar scam-
EDIT- To be clear, I am not talking about ESO but a generality . I have said my thoughts on ESO a milion times. I liked the game but think its going to be F2P with Ca$h $hop. If it makes it a year without puling the bait and switch I will probably play- I dont think it will. Thats my opinion on ESO- My rant is in general about the industry.
EDIT 2 (try to keep up)- Regarding Fable, the main dev even made an appology http://games.slashdot.org/story/04/10/01/1651219/peter-molyneux-apologizes-for-fable and explained how all the features he talked about were in development but didnt make it in game (he claims 15%-I say many...many more) BUT a week before pre release he was still hyping with the same shit and I am sure the bulk of programming was done at that point (enough to know mostly which features made it and which were scrapped) but he continued to lie and lie and he made profit for his lying.
People (like me)_ bought the game based on the lies he was telling a week before getting my money- Then "oops- sorry" no refunds or exchanges.
ONLY in gaming.
From the link : "On the official Lionhead Studio forums Peter Molyneux apologized for announcing features that did not make it into the final version of Fable."Their forums are already getting hammered. Post text available below.
Text from the Lionhead Studios Post -
A message from Peter Molyneux. There is something I have to say. And I have to say it because I love making games. When a game is in development, myself and the development teams I work with constantly encourage each other to think of the best features and the most ground-breaking design possible.
I think some of you guys need to realize that every game released is not going to have the same level of quality on its official release as the next game or studio because every studio and company is made up of different people whom prioritize different things. When you guys learn to accept this you might actually take a much more mellow approach.
This game was no different than skyrim releasing. Some couldnt even play skyrim until community work arounds were released. It took a community patch to fix all the bugs, same with fallout new vegas. Bethesda was still patching 1.9 what a year later so that should tell you right there that releases are much more important and squashing bugs as they pop up is how they do business with Zen and Bethesda.
For myself while bugs and dupes are annoying I can tolerate it because I enjoy the rest of the game and have hopes that each week we will still get small patches to fix whats broken and also in may a large patch to improve the quality of life and add some content. If they stay on point with this than in my opinion they are no different than blizzard Trion or Arena Net. This is what will determine my long term plans of playing and I think ultimately their long term success.
Ill be playing this for awhile isnt another mmorpg out there that im even interested in anytime in the near future and this has the old school DAOC feel to it IMO, though the questing only option does suck in my book as sometimes id rather go out and pvp for progression or grind mobs. Options , I do hope they really address those but all in all I find the game to be a very good game which I enjoy playing.

/facepalm
please do explain how duping and exploits is just players fault? have you ever heard of the phrase 'you can not clap with one hand' ?
Yes! Still having a blast with the game!
Playing since head start and just turned lvl 19 last night so i guess i still have a couple of months ahead to level cap and start PvPing....
So i guess i´ll be subscribing for at leat another 2 months
We are not just talking about one game...please try to follow along it's really not that hard. We are talking about the gaming industry. Now if you are having issues please stay out of the conversation . Thanks
I just bought a copy online to check it out
I was going to go for wildstar, but after watching a few reviews it seams that the questing and leveling in wildstar is very plain and underwelming
Plus I keep hearing its just like wow..
no thanks, 5 yrs of wow I want something different.
Archage I was highly looking forward to a few yrs ago, but I am more of a pve'er and dont really care for pvp (eso is the exception)
I dont want to build my house up and farm in AAO just to have some some board asshat come along and wreck it.
.. So eso it is for me!
I guess every time they try to fix some small bugs, they end up creating some bigger ones.
This is getting really lame.
In general. =P
Bullshit.
I am an Electrician in the building trades. If you used a liscensed company they will be required to fix all the issues or you could drag them to court and they could lose their liscense.

It goes both ways doesn't it? the emotional investment i mean.
Given that guys like him would spend all their time to defend companies and their favorite games while trying to flame the so called haters and miss the obvious sweet irony while doing that.
Certainly it does.
I try to be objective even in things I enjoy- Objectivity is lost with emotion and hype. A marketers dream.
But to sit around on forums and act as a white knight over a video game isn't pathetic?
There are two sides to every coin.
No I am not bullshit, he came in with all the papers saying he was insured went through a reputable website to find him. He had a history of creating business pulling this scam and making a new business .

Who's white knighting? Find one post where I said these are not issues? This all started from one poster I called out for trolling every single eso thread. I didn't defend the game, yeah sorry I'm not white knighting, I just don't think gaming companies are out to get me .
Best MMO.
Just updated my sup for another 6 mounth.
To say the true, I have nothing against that some kiddies are leaving to wildstar. ESO is a bit too crowded for my taste.
Step in the arena and break the wall down
