Yes, this i don't understand as well. In many MMOs that I've joined lately, a lot of them have people that almost seem to discourage conversations. I'm not just talking about roleplay type conversations, I'm also talking about just conversing in general, whether it be about a battle, or what you're doing in real life for the past few days, etc.
Sometimes I wish for the old days of UO and EQ to come around again -_-
The doll would surely say, "I do not want to be human!" although her master wants her to be even more.

I wish I could play those without the monthly payment. -_- I wish to know what they were like because alot of people refer to UO or EQ and I just feel like,"uh....no comment".

This is probably true. With the number of idiots you can meet daily in a MMO world the "strangers" in peoples guilds is enough socializing for them.
