Introducing: SNIPER class

AnashelAnashel Member UncommonPosts: 200

Hi! During this weekend we will reveal 4 classes. Here is the 3rd one:

THE SNIPER

(The soldier shown is a placeholder. No design has been done for the scientist class... yet!)

Sniper are a support class. Embedded in various units, they are very solitary. There's a reason, too; when the time comes, they deploy to various parts of the world to track down and eliminate targets.

ABOUT CLASS SKILLS

In the Black Watchmen Universe, you will have to work with the following category of skills. Please keep in mind that, this being an ARG, you can highly customize our suggested templates and invent new types of characters!

Code Breaking and Puzzle Solving (LOW)

Skill at breaking codes, understanding how systems work, hacking terminals and generally good at solving various forms of puzzles.

Online Research and Analysis (MEDIUM)

Ability to quickly find the needles in a haystack, connecting the dots in a large volume of information, prioritizing data and researching the web

Tactical Skill - APM Level (HIGH)

High level of actions per minute, using your weapon or various types of technology. High level of control and concentration over long periods of time.

Real World Knowledge (MEDIUM)

Fluent in various languages and topics including art, history, war, and politics.

Companion App (HIGH)

Use of a location-based device and skills in urban and rural combat through augmented reality.

Community Leadership (LOW)

Ability to organize and plan group attacks. Strong skills in commanding Special Ops teams and diffusing tense situations.

You can improve your skills over time to enable access to higher-level game events.

DO YOU PLAN TO PLAY A SNIPER CLASS?

Only issue I have with this is the high APM as snipers tend to take their time in order to get the perfect shot.

Also at the bottom you've put scientist class instead of sniper

According to the description of Tactical Skill (APM), I think, based on the description of the skill, that it's better to think of it as not only your ability to do simultaneous physical tasks, but also your ability to have a high level of working memory - and thereby concentration.

Picture a Sniper waiting for the right moment; that moment is likely to be extraordinarily brief, so it requires a huge amount of concentration. Effectively, while they are not physically "ticking away actions", their acuity is constantly on high-alert for extended periods of time; they aren't pulling the trigger rapidly, they are constantly not pulling the trigger untill the right moment - in the sense that the lack of action, in this case, is an actively made choice.

That's of course my subjective interpretation of it, and I've been playing with trying to elaborate on the other skills - just for fun. ;)

In regards to the class; I assume this means Cybertech will have maxed Code Breaking & Puzzle Solving as well as Online Research and Analysis. Makes me wonder what'll happen with Community Leadership ;)

I'm also wondering whether or not the Companion App will be exclusive to those with the Companion App, or if this stat also plays a role outside the actual app?

If not, it would effectively render the class somewhat inert for those who do not have access to the Companion App.

I would imagine that the stats are for the entire game - it does exist outside of the app, after all. I thought them to be primarily for the main mission system - we've had examples where these various skills come in handy during them already, such as the Community Mission to hack the hell out of the KGB. In that particular case, APM was translated to the physical task of typing swiftly and accurately. I believe this is partially why it is described as physical.

Accuracy is a very important thing for a sniper. After all, what good sniper misses their shot when their intent is to hit?

Ah, cheers for the insight. I unfortunately was too late to participate in in the pre-launch ARG, and unless I'm missing something, that part of the event is not available when replaying it. I do, of course, have a famliarity with the concept from the End of Days event. :)

I was also primarily brainfarting as to whether or not it might purely encompass the physical aspect - such as the tests during the End of Days ARG, or if it might also have a cognitive aspect. To draw a comparison; not just the ability to type/respond rapidly, but also correctly - i.e. something akin to a Flanker task, demanding the subject to keep a high working memory, in order to respond to incongruent signals, while also focusing on responding correctly. Which would, in my subjective view, also be categorized under "Tactical Skill" (responding to changing circumstances - physical or cognitive).

Either way, I agree accuracy is indeed very important for a sniper - and I agree that it is more than likely that APM is a skill primarily centered around physical activity; perchance with a few cognitive undertones. :)
