The greatest F2P game ever?

Top 10 reasons why Atlantica Online is still one of the best.

1) EVERYTHING in this game is FREE. All cash chop items can be bought with in game currency. THIS IS HUGE FOR A F2P GAME! It means its a true free to play game. Using the cash shop does have its advantages, but if you are willing to grind it out, you wont pay a dime.

2) It has the best community you will ever find in an MMORPG. Most of the players I've encountered are mature and friendly. It doesn't have a bunch of LoL RAGING players(THANK GOD). Also, this is the only Nexon game that doesn't block IPs, so you meet people from all over the world!

3) It's the ONLY true Turn Based MMORPG, and there's no other game that comes even close. Nexon again is too dumb to realize how good this game REALLY is. I refuse to play any of their shit pay2win games after trying Atlantica, it leaves them in the dust. Also, how many games allow you to have a George Washinton as a mercenary? He even transforms into a total badass if his hp hit's below a certain point.

4) The crafting system is beautiful. You can craft gear for all your mercenaries and it has its benefits. I won't go too much into crafting but it's one of the nicest crafting systems you'll see in any game. All the materials you need to craft are available through the market or if you're cheap, go farm them!

5) Guilds and Nations. This is what did it for me. When I first started playing 2 years ago, I was asked to join a guild. I didn't know what it meant, but sure why not! Best decision a noob could make. I was lucky enough to be in a great guild and a good nation.

6) Interactions between players makes this feel like a real MMO. No, not everything is solo-able in this game. You actually HAVE to party with other people unless you're one of those OP players.

7) Nation Dungeons. How many other games require 70-80 people to complete ONE dungeon? Yeah, sounds horrible, you can fail easily if players dont listen(NOOBS). But once complete and rewards are mailed to every participant, it feels like the best accomplisments. Since Nation Dungeons require that many people from a nation, its typically run during weekends.

8) Final Fantasy fans out there? The game is turn based. The style is so unique with over 30 mercenaries you can obtain, mix and match whatever type of formation you want. The TBS missions will remind you of FF Tactics. This style isn't for everyone, but if you learn the game, you can really have fun with all the players in it.

9) PvP. Yes, this game's PvP requires THINKING. It's not just luck that will help you win in Atlantica PvP matches. You have to really master your mercenaries and their counterparts if you want a chance in PvP.

10) Goals. This is a game where you really need to invest time into it. Gear up all your mercernaries, level them, change formation as much as you want. The more time you will put in the more rewarding it will be. When I first started, one of my main goals was to get all my crafting levels to 50. It took awhile, but when I got there, and learned a couple secrets I now have all my skills over 120. 140 is max. Getting there slowly!

10B) Auto-Battle. Yes, its exactly what it sounds like. You can set your mercenaries to auto-battle while you watch a show, movie or work. Just make sure you check every now and then to heal them up!

If you look at ratings for this game, it's still one of the highest rated games out there. If you decide to download and try it out, join the busiest server as you will get the most out of it from there [ Argos Server ].

I've spent about $100 in this game, all on mount boxes where I failed miserably lol. Using the cash shop in this game doesn't give you a huge advantage like most F2P games. You can get all your desires from the market, lesson learned!

PS. THIS GAME IS NOT FOR LAZY PEOPLE! If you want a true MMORPG that's not another WoW clone, this is your best bet.

Word of warning: This game turns into a real grindfest after a while. A friend of mine played this game using speedhack and macros. He was lazy and smart.

I'm generally skeptical of first posts that consist of "you should all go play game X", and given Atlantica's history of stuffing the ballot boxes in game ratings for this site, they get less benefit of the doubt than most other games would on this.  But the original post is coherent as opposed to spambot, so I'll bite.

Atlantica does have good combat.  And in a game heavily based around combat, that's no small thing.  Unfortunately, they did just about everything else in the entire game wrong--even creatively finding new ways to do things wrong.

For example, regularly scheduled maintenance is during US prime time.  For the English language version of the game.  Seriously.  I'm not making that up.

The game gives new meaning to "on rails":  at least up into the 40s and probably far beyond (though that's as far as I got), just about every single quest in the game is in a single, supremely long quest chain.  Many of the quests are "go here and kill 20 of X", then the follow up will be "go back and kill 20 more"--but you can't take them at the same time because one is a prerequisite for the other.  And it doesn't stay at 20: later on, it's "go get 200 of X".

When you get new mercenaries, they start at level 1.  The rest of your mercenaries are whatever level they are, and probably vastly higher than 1.  Imagine an MMORPG where you have a group with several players level 40-50, one player level 1, they have to group together, and the level 1 doesn't get experience from fighting mobs too far above his level.  That's about how well it works.

If you do decide to support the game and buy stuff from the item mall (and contrary to the original post, it's very pay-to-win in this regard), what you get is per-character, including the subscription-like stuff.  So if you want to play alts, you have to pay again per character.  Imagine playing WoW and your $15/month gets you one character, and it's an extra $15/month if you want to play any other characters.  Atlantica is about that alt-friendly.

Also, the grinding is horrendous.  Atlantica is one of the games that helped create and sustain the stereotype of Korean grinders.

But to answer the thread title, the best F2P game ever is Uncharted Waters Online.

I'm not sure how long ago you last played, but maintanence now happen at 7AM and while questing does get a bit tedious, there is so much to do that you shouldn't be boring yourself with just quests.

Join your Guild for a Guild Dungeon, or an Individual Dungeon with 2 of your friends, raise your crafting skills etc. Exp is so easy to earn that many players reach level 160 in just a couple months of hardcore gaming or just playing on Atlantica Days.

The game has changed alot over the last few years from what I hear. I've been playing for 2 years now and only wished I had found it sooner. Ignore the horrible Item Mall boxes and this game is gold.

I recently picked this game back up and it looks completely new. I started over on Argos and so far I'm impressed with all the new changes and new look. Looking forward to playing again!

    @OP...Marks against you:

    - Daring to put Greatest and F2P in the same sentence.

    - Having the name "true-gaming"

    - A Wall that pink floyd couldn't encourage me to tackle.

In my book, you've completely struck out. Your not doing yourself or your game any favors with this thread.

Yes it does turn into a huge grind at around level 120. It's also very pay to win.  I had a level 116 music main and level 119 saw main.

On a positive note, the game has a fantastic idea behind it.  Turn based rpg / strategy where a player controls 9 characters at once in formation.  I'd love to see another company take a stab at a similar idea getting rid of the pay to win aspect.  Despite being turn based, you never feel like you're sitting around waiting for your turn.

Is this the definition of what true "F2P" is these days ? Lets make this end-game set cost $50 or available for free using in-game currency grinding worth a year.

One true F2P game there Ive played is dota2. All aspects of the game available day 1. Cash shop cosmetics only. Even then cosmetics drop randomly at the end of each game. They also drop a few millions dollars a year for a tourney.
