xfire & ESO ?

docminus2docminus2 Member UncommonPosts: 184

Anyone using xfire and playing ESO? I can only get it to detect the beta still, and there only if you have the NA server install, if you use EU it won't recognize/accept it.

Didn't know that there weren't any forums for Xfire anymore, so submitt a ticket?

Alternatively maybe just let Xfire go... Nearly every MMO I played at launch wit Xfire had this troubles with detection from beta to retail, resp. EU vs NA version detection (if there were multiple ones). Really just use it for time-tracking tbh to shock myself once in a while...

I've had the same issue.  Xfire doesn't recognize Elder Scrolls online since release.

Shift to raptr. Its lot better and have huge communities for all mmorpg's. I stopped using Xfire because of similar reasons.

Checked out Raptr and it didn't see nearly as good.  I didn't install the client but from the description I don't think it had voice chat, autodetection of games.  The list it had me pick from initially seemed pretty small and missing a lot of games I play.  Maybe there is more too it but it didn't seem like much of a substitute...

Xfire does seem to have gone down hill.  Couldn't find any forums or any info.  Tried to add eso manually and it just gave me a file not found error.  I suspect that some of the problem is that I'm running the beta client.  Since from the statts it does seem like some people are being recorded for play time.  Maybe only people using the beta client are broke.

    Xfire threads are bad, mmkay?

Actually, they are.  They spiral out of control and an actual conversation ends up being all but impossible.  In the interests of forum health, a single XFire thread has been stickied, and all XFire discussions happen there.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I thought everyone on these forums think xfire is total BS.

And even that is kind of a joke...so what does that make xfire.

I installed Raptr and it isn't even close to as good as xfire.  it has very limited value and has lots of advertisements and selling BS.  Seriously it sucks in just about every way.  If you think Raptr is better than xfire you haven't used xfire.

Not ment to be offensive but raptr seems like a poor man's xfire with a subset of functions and a bonus in advertisements and attempts to sell me stuff.

So back to the original topic which was getting ESO working with Xfire beta version.  Anyone have any clue how to get ESO working with the client?

Well I fixed xfire.  Go into the c:programdataxfire directory.

I had a file called xfire_games.ini and another one called xfire_games.bak.  I renamed the xfire_games.ini file to backup and renamed xfire_games.bak to xfire_games.ini.  I then went back into xfire and discovered games.  Now elder scrolls is showing up and it logs my activety and more importantly has enabled other xfire features like chat, voice, streaming, capture, etc.  Beta even puts a widget on my screen that shows my fps and current time.

I'll be honest, I joined this thread expecting to be ready to bash on it using Xfire numbers to judge something (which is stupid) and instead saw someone commenting on xfire and issues with it with Eso.

Thus... I must move to my next comment.

People actually use xfire? XD Kidding aside, i would take it on their forums or attempt to find out on their side. As far as I know xfire isn't exactly a 'big source'.

Really don't get the xfire hate... I've been using it for years and use it with friends.  Seems like a great little program which is free and isn't trying to sell me anything.  Steam is getting good but still not as good but you need it to play games you buy with steam.

Xfire gives me all the below features for free and the latest beta updates a lot of the tools

    • Provides game communities/friends lists
    • Provides cross game chat (popup overlay while in game)
    • Persistent chat rooms for friends
    • In game tools (local time and fps)
    • cross game serverless voice chat
    • video recording, screen shots with free storage
    • Kinda cool video flashback function that captures a window of gameplay in the background letting you save video after the fact if something neat happens
    • Video streaming through twitch tv
    • In game browser overlay and music player
    • automatic game patching for some games
    • records your game playing history

And all for free...  I looked at raptr and it does a fraction of this and is popping up notices, giving me points and trying to sell me stuff.  None of that happens with Xfire it just runs in the background and never bothers me unless I need to use it.

So if there is a better option that works and gives the same functionality but better I'm happy to learn about it.
