Starting now, would you support B2P model now?

Would you support ESO converting to B2P model instead of P2P model as of now?

Or do you feel its better off that they wait a bit longer for that? (if so, how much longer if ever)

    of course yes.

They have to do a lot of adding and fixing and changing before i subscribe. If they dont waste time and fix the game then ill stay with the sub. Right now there A) shouldn't be a sub or B) shouldn't have the problems this game has which are not your typical small mmo launch mistakes. One or the other, not both....   they got both..... unfortunately.

ZoS need to take some lessons from Square Enix. Dont charge a sub until you fix your game.

    No,

First they need to fix some things. then it would be nice to see an mmo have more content and build to something way larger.

From the first beta i played 8quite a while now) the game screamed B2P. Every beta afterwards just confirmed it more and more.

The sooner the better, for the sake of the game.

About 50% of gamers now expect every MMO to release as F2P, it pisses them off when anything releases which is even B2P, let alone P2P. You can predicte the result of any poll like this, no matter how well the game is doing, on that basis.

    Difficult to see any change.

Ordinarily games can't convert to B2P -  but TESO hasn't released any expansions yet and it does have the XB1 and PS4 launches to come.

Yes TSW dropped its sub and is now "B2P" but games that launch with a sub carry the baggage of lower sales - which companies expect to make up by retaining a % of players as subscribers.

Could it "relaunch" on the back of the console launch maybe; announce to existing players something like:

    • they won't be charged a sub
    • Craglorn and subsequent content drops will be will be paid DLC  - hasn't gone up on PTS yet so a delay may not be a bad thing.
well of course they could but would this give them higher sales to off-set the loss in sub income.

I think only Zenimax could answer that. Trying to overcome the initial impression a game makes is almost impossible. The phrase: companies only get one shot at launch is because its very hard to get a second. Some great FFXIV interviews around at the moment; about the choices that Square Enix faced - take down, fix, relaunch - thereby keeping the IP viable, or carry on and watch the IP die over about 3 years. Die as in gone forever.

Having opted for a sub model, will continue with their original plan. It is very hard to see the corporate executives who decided to go with a sub model saying "we were wrong" (if indeed they were) and changing the business model. Very hard. And no guarantee that this would generate extra revenue.

If they were thinking of options then what they could do is:
    • announce that as a result of bugs, bots and bank issues no subscription will be charged until June - or maybe the console launch.
    • And hold back on the release of Craglorn - not simply to test it but to give themselves the option of releasing it as DLC.

Realistically, if they were to think about going away from a sub, they need to be thinking about next years Elder Scrolls + expansion packs relaunch. Think Skyrim Legendary.

I've seen the kind of 'content' updates A-net pushes out. Hell no.

I supported GW2 B2P model for 1,5 year & still waiting for a content patch with new weapons, areas, story etc. so no I will never support that model again or F2P.

I support ESO P2P model & in the 1st month we get the Craglorn & updates to all game systems. so yes if zen continue like this they will have my support & the monthly fee from me.

If we start using your logic then half of the forums would dead.

The purpose of this topic is to discuss among the gamers regardless of whether it has any effect on Zenimax or not.

Living Story and bi-weekly updates didn't happen.

WvW traits and new map didn't happen.

PvP maps and new reward system didn't happen.

    Megaserver system didn't happen.

BLTC and Non-BLTC weapon and armor skins didn't happen.

Southsun cove, Tequatl and Elder Wurm didn't happen.

Not an arugument against P2P as it does initially provide a guaranteed income with which to make new content, especially in the first 1-3 months. However, that does not discount B2P's place in the MMO world.

And I will say it again: B2P, F2P, or P2P does NOT make a good game bad or a bad game good. It just provides different barriers to entry and different tolerances of mistakes based on cost.

They need to do what FFXIV did.  The game needs a major reset, at least six months of additional work and then re-release.  They need a new management team focused on providing a quality product, not a team with the attitude that they can fool the sheep into buying anything.

Craglorn was already in development way before. Look, if you watch the mmorpg.com future of online gaming panel, of the Wildstar devs even states thst to develop a single new dungeon, it took months (i think 6), even with overtime.

How long do you think developing new adventure zones will take, unless they're already near the end of their production cycle?

Business model as nothing to do with how long it takes to release new content, or the quality. As for me, i do think ESO should be B2P.

But i do wonder what they'd sell in the cash shop. Some of the best sellers tend to be comestic, and ESO doesn't even have a dye system. Maybe DLC or a few special funny items.

Come to think of it, i personally wouldn't mind paying for Craglorn in DLC format. The only issue would be the new Veterans Ranks cut off for PVP.

I doubt the developers will be able to release enough content on a quick enough time scale for me to maintain a monthly subscription . I actually like the game and I'm quite happy to subscribe until I reach the endgame then it will probably be a matter of coming back for a month now and then when they do release content . I would much prefer it to be buy to play and pay for the content as and when its released as I do in TSW . To me subscriptions are paying for the promise of something that hasn't been released yet . As much a I like the Elder Scrolls Online I find myself thinking I can get this elsewhere in far more flexible payment models and given its doesn't feel like an mmo in lots of ways I also find myself I can get this in Skyrim for a one off payment . A lot will depend on Cyrodil and how much I like the PVP . I'm enjoying it now but I think its something thats tiding me over until Arche Age comes out . Now if I only had a console to play games on it probably would be a different matter given the lack of competition there from other mmos .

Whatever ZOS decides to do with the payment scheme is fine by me. The game is good enough for me to play it as my main MMO, therefore the payment plan is irrelevant to me.
