Solo-ability

TithrielleTithrielle Member Posts: 547

I'd really love to try AC, as I never tried it back in its hayday, but I'm presuming the playerbase is very top-ended these days. My question is, is AC soloable? What chance realistically will I have of catching up lvl wise?

Yes AC is very soloable if you know what skill to take and raise.  However i don't recommend you to start playing.  AC is pretty much dead now.  It was a great game back in 1999-2002.

So surely I should experience it before it dies?

I would say yes, its definitely worth a try but what I think he is saying is, do not expect to be blown away as I and many others were in 99-00.    I would go to the main AC forums and find out which server you should join because server pops are not nearly as full as they used to be and most of the playerbase is uppper lvl.

You could probably get to around level 130 in two months.

If you have never played AC I highly recommend you play it.  It is definitely a grinder game, but it has some of the most elaborate quests ever made.  It is one of the most adventurous games ever created.  If the graphics were not so dated I am sure more peeps would be playing.  Housing is good, no mounts (bummer) but you can run extremely fast and portal almost anywhere.  Agro is insane and you will feel death.  However, there are over 500 dungeons which are quite elaborate.  Dereth is really big and there is only zoning via portalling.  Interface is dated and not near as friendly as other games.  You will not see many players anymore, which means you will solo quite a bit.  If you choose a patron life will be easier and he/she will provide you with uber stuff.

If you are a pvp'er type then Darktide is what you want.  It is ffa pvp and their is pain in death.  Players can loot their kills substantially.

    Good luck if you play.....image

    DO try it ...

I think Soloability is one of the main reasons ppl still play AC1 ... and some keep coming back to it.

Look around ... WoW is vell soloable, and Very popular as well.

As for AC1 - yes - I came back to AC1 for one reason only - Solo ability.
.. I just got sick and tired of EQ2, DDO and some other games there, where not having a group with you makes you miserable and not being able to do anything descent.

In AC1 you can hunt, lvl, do quests solo (most of them anyhow) ... just takes some skill and creative thinking sometimes.
Lately they have introduced some quests and encounters that can not be done solo, but there is plenty to do on your own ....

... and as ppl said above - quests there are very well thought over and done.

lol If AC doesn't have anyone playing it the who the hell are the people in the dungeons that I want to hunt in alone? Why does my chat screen scroll up faster then I can read it?

People seem to forget Dereth is as large as Rhode Island with no zoning the only d/l time is on patch day and entering a dungeon you have never been in before. As for seeing these people the landmass and area's to play are vast so sure you can a while if your hunting somewhere secluded. Go to the XP grinding spots if you want to see players The Egg Orchard Dungeons all 3 of them always have a full fellowship of 9 players fighting in them. The Ravenous & Intsatiable Eater vaults are always packed.

The Beta days of everyone standing around in 1 of the 4 or 5 popular towns is gone. We have housing, Monarchies have mansions that have special buff item and portals to various quest staging area's. The only reason we stood around in towns before was waiting for someone to help you mule (housing changed this) or getting ready for a quest (most people begin staging for quest at the mansions now) for public quest people meet at the marketplace and stage for those there.

If your not an active player your post mean very little to me :) Something happened IG that made you bitter and you quit. No you get your rock's off by trolling AC forums and bashing when you have no idea what's going on IGimage I find it amazing how many people quit playing AC yet 1 to 2 years later they still troll the forums and post as if they now whats going on IG.

AC is very solo friendly. Very few quest and even fewer monsters are of the forced grouping variety.

Best I can say is try it. If you like you'll play till servers shut down. If you don't you wasted $29.95 the cost of the game cause new ToD subscribers get 2 free months.

Striving to and surpassing Darkerknight's gimpness.

I think _Xearo summed it up pretty well.  I cut my MMORPG teeth on A/C and I still play it today.

I have quit twice, once when my real life got too busy to play, and the other just before the expansion because my old computer wouldn't run it. But I always find myself comming back to this game.

If you do play A/C for the first time I wouldn't recommend power leveling to get up to the high level grinding. I would take the time to explore the world and learn some of the background. But that is my style of play.

There are some low level toons, mostly alts, but you can find people to play with occasionally.

I leveled up an alt with a friend who was new to the game. We have a lot of fun with all the low and mid level quests and we are both around level 60 now.
