How am I supposed to know what the game is like without trying it?
it's 2014 and an AAA mmo has released without any form of trial, what?
Do they expect me to just throw £70 at them and just -hope- that the game is good?
Comments
Every recent MMO has at least released with a buddy key system in order to allow players to check the game out.
Negative. Not one MMO has launched with a trial system.
They've all added one around 6 months AFTER launch, but NEVER have they launched with one.
Millions of folks did so. So yes I am sure they expect a lot of people to do just that.
Betas have become the new trial and Zenimax had a few easy to get into betas prior to launch.
Not to mention the enormous number of videos, reviews, forums, etc. It's not hard to make an educated decision about buying a game in 2014.
GW2 didn't, Rift didn't, LOTR didn't, EQ2 didn't, WoW didn't, Vanguard didn't, Tabula Rasa didn't, SWTOR didn't, FF XIV try 1 and 2 didn't, DCUO didn't, TSW didn't.
I'm sure I missed a few more but those are the sub games I played at launch that I can remember didn't although maybe one of them I can't remember which one gave collectors editions buying a couple 7 day buddy keys.
Everyone was able to try the game on beta, why dont you?
Now wait a few months to have a trial or buy it, ur choise.
Name one.
I think there were a few months of open Beta's for you to try. Wasn't well advertised as only an estimated 5 million people heard about it and got to try it for themselves, shame you missed your chance and had to act like a child here to point out their failings...kids these days, sheesh!
WildStar will give trials. Everyone who buys the game will have 3 x 7 days trial to share with friends. There are still companies who respect customers
Btw do you think ZEN will even think about giving trials with the current state of the game?
I'm not sure if I'm excited for the WS launch more because I want to play it or because.... we'll see
I m not saying WildStar is the next big thing or every1 must like or get hyped, i m just saying WildStar at least give you the right to play trial before you buy the product. Judging for yourself is always the best way
lol. They are called a business for a reason. What does expecting money for your product have to do with respect. Sounds the other way around to me if people want products for free. Wildstar just does not think they have a good enough product to compete obviously . It has absolutely nothing to do with how they feel for their customers. It has everything to do with what they think is the best way to make money.
I paid about £26 for my key through one of the key sites, which is less than a single player game.
No one is forcing you to buy the collectors edition direct from zenimax...
and no, most new sub based games don't offer a buddy key or trial when they are new released.
Actually, i remember WoW had a 7 day trial key in the box. But this applies to way back, BC times.. 7 day pass keys was in the box, i clearly remember. Not sure how it is now.
Edit: WoW still has 7 day pass keys it seems:
Edit 2: Nope, i am mistaken. WoW didn't had any guest passes in the launch phase. They started to put those guest pass cards way after the launch but before BC. For the sake of nostalgia, see:

Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)
I'm sure the goldsellers are delighted to hear that they can get 3 "legal" 7-day accounts for every copy of Wildstar that they buy with a stolen cc number !
Not that I know of. I've played practically every major mmo launch since Lineage 2 and I don't know of one that "launched" with a buddy/try me out program.
I do know that they usually allow for some sort of open beta.
Elder Scrolls Online had several open beta events, in the end sending a lot of people invites. Did you not sign up?

While ESO which didnt have trials have none right? ESO is full of gold sellers and i prefer to have the right to try something before i buy it than not having at all the chance and loose my money. Gold sellers will be there either way.
WOW has been around for many years and what they do now is irrelevent. They don't need to even have a buddy key.. Since its F2P for the first 20 levels. As far as being released that way..I don't think so ...I don't remember it that way. Its something that came later. Thats not a picture of the release version by the way...
Yes, i corrected my mistake and updated my own post.
