Continuous spam to verify access from new computer

fivorothfivoroth Member UncommonPosts: 3,916

For the last week or so, I have received probably like 5-6 emails asking me to approve access from a new computer. I haven't played the game in the last week so either a) someone is trying to access my account or b) it's some sort of weird bug where these emails get sent in error.

Does anyone else get these emails? I am curious if someone tries to login into my account would the email be sent only if they got the password right or would it be sent even if they got it wrong. Cause if it is the former then that person knows my password which is interesting. My PC is definitely not infected with malware and I doubt someone managed to guess my 14+ sign password which is made of a completely random mix of numbers, letters and signs.

I believe it would only be sent if the password was accepted. It doesnt give the error saying your computer is not verified, and then generate the email, until after you enter your username and password. Would definitely suggest changing your password. Though are you also 100% sure the emails are legit and not phishing attempts or something.

Thanks, good to know. I will change my password.

Yes, emails are definitely genuine. It comes from

     noreply@mail.elderscrollsonline.com

which is the legit email for this. The email definitely comes from the above email, it's not masked or anything.

Besides gmail has never failed at filtering out phishing emails. Not a single time. Gmail will never sent an email to your inbox which has different email to the one displayed.

But yeah I am pretty sure the email is genuine.

Your password was stolen, but ZOS's IP verification system is doing what it is supposed to do, keeping the hackers out of your account.

You're the first person I've seen complain about a developer NOT allowing their account to be hacked.  How dense are you my god?

I chose the Xfinity speed test because it does not reveal my ISP.

    This.

Just because the little scale went all green does not mean it actually is a secure PW.

Other reasons could be because you have a dynamic IP address, or you've been 'fiddling' with your *.version files (and others).

I changed my password, just curious how someone guessed my password.... Ohh well :D It's a good every self-respecting company use IP verification system or mobile authentication. Makes your account so much more secure.

I didn't complain about this. I was just asking some questions. Of course, I am glad they have an IP verification system in place. I can't be the first person you've seen complain about a developer not allowing their account to be hacked cause I wasn't complaining.

But it is nice to see how quickly you resort to insults....When I wasn't even complaining loooooooool.

Rainbow tables and hash hacking. if they actually guessed your password......

I suspect something else....like purchased gold or add-on and have a keylogger.
