[Preview] The Crew: A True Racing MMORPG

It might be time to add another R to the old acronym, because Ubisoft is building what might be the first major AAA MMORPG built entirely around racing and building an arsenal of cars. With the entirety of the continental United States at your disposal, The Crew (due to launch later in 2014) is a fully-fledged MMO based entirely on racing both AI and your human counterparts.  There will be missions, a full overworld to explore, levels to gain, gear to collect and outfit your cars with, and players to meet and compete against.  On top of the usual MMO staples, it’ll also be one of the first next gen console MMOs, alongside a PC release when it launches. We went hands on with the game at PAX East and came away highly impressed. The foundation is solid, and if the MMO-ness of a massive world filled with other drivers can be pulled off convincingly, we’re all in for a treat when the rubber hits the road.

8 other players at a time, this seems a bit gimped to me. Having a option to enable all other players within a distance who also have show all enabled would be something I would like. Sometimes you just like to show off your car.

Can't even pre-order the PC version, so they don't even know when it's coming - and when it does it will be a port.. A good port or a bad port?  Is there such a thing as a good port to PC?

Good idea, but it's obviously aimed at consoles..  Which I guess a lot of people here use?  Hellifiknow.

I will assume it will be a crap port.. That way i can at worst have my prediction come true.

Ny guess is that we will see it late 2015 when nobody cares any more except the cheaters like NFS:W.

This have been a good conversation

I pass by games that don't launch for PC right off the bat..  my money will be on World Of Speed as far as a racing game I would be looking to play.

The dev at Ubi's booth strongly insisted it'll be out this Fall.  It really felt polished, so I'd wager it'll hit before November.

My experience with driving games and a controller are not good.  Since it is a port I expect the controller will be a better choice over the mouse/keyboard.  Going to have to wait and see how MMO like it is, my initial feeling is not much.
