I really wish grouping was a bit simpler...the phasing system needs to go; however, it seems hardwired into the game.
The story seems pretty decent, but it also seems like ESO wants to do everything in its power to make sure you play solo outside of dungeons.
As far as exploration, you need a horse to get around at any reasonable pace...and that seems a bit disingenuous. You're going to need to pay 20 bucks or 42k gold to explore the world (with vast emptiness in between)
Far as I know group phasing is fine, and has been since launch. I think the big complaint is that with quests where you have to pick up x things or free x prisoners, not all in the group get credit when someone picks a thing up or frees a prisoner. Not all the quests are like that, most have shared things within group and with all other players around.
The horse thing is crap. It doesn't take long at all to buy the 42k horse, and the CE/palamino horse is equivalent to the 17k horse, even when feeding it on every cooldown you'll have less stats on it by the time others can afford the 42k horse. This is why no one paying any attention buys the 17k horse with gold, they just skip it for the two or so days it takes to get the rest of the money for a good horse.

2 days to get 40K? please share the secret with us. I play a lot and at lvl 34 i have 26K in total. And i still need more bank space and inventory and repair bills are getting huge.
So how do i do all that and still have spare 40K for horse. ¨Please do tell.

Well that's the crux of EsO, it's an mmo not really like the single player games where you can do that. My roommate only plays elder scrolls video games (other than that he doesn't play video games) and he rarely does quests.
One couldn't do that in ESO as it's essentially styled after the current mmo format which is to give players quests.
That's why I enjoyed myself so much last night being in that ruin and just killing mobs and helping players.
If one can't get over the "quest part" of ESO then I would never recommend the the game to that person.
To my tastes it's a shame, but there it is.

I've run past several quest givers, it's not like you HAVE to do the quest in that area. Also, because there's the quest giver does not make the location any less "hey look this is a designated exploration spot" it just happens that there's quest givers in any location in this game, and I'd like to stress out the fact that you DO NOT have to do every quest in this game to "keep up" or whatever the compelling reason is.
Another topic is, what is that big reward you are expecting anyway to sit there in place of that quest? To me it's usually everything the place has to offer from scenery to loot and quests and what ever I find, RARELY I feel rewarded in these games just by the location what ever it is and its content.
People trying to argue which has the most to explore, end-game, or basically sandbox elements between the three largest, most themepark released games ever.
When did MMO's immersion become these boring, static NPC's that are fully voiced. Enemy NPC spawn points swarmed with Bots and gold farmers. Empty towns, with all the players simply huddled at the bank. Oh, what a nice Point of Interest at this beatiful tavern! Welp, got the POI I'll never visit there again!
Exploration? Going through each level-based zone, spending however much time there, getting all the "designated" viewpoint/exploration points, quests, then moving on to never have to see or deal with it again.
Pfft. Play your little this game > or < that game. However long each of you, as every individual will be different, enjoys the ride on these themepark games, they all share the same basic designs, and lack of immersion and exploration. Wake me up when there's an actual MMO designed with actual player driven exploration and immersion, not this hand-holding, voice-guided sight-seeing tour these game offer then abruptly end when the tours over. Bros.
Sorry, but only game that gave me real feeling of exploration (and "non linearity") is quite a few years was GW2 (and still does).
ESO is pretty defective in those departements (which was quite a dissapointment)
That´s so funny because i experienced it the other way round. For me GW2 was a game i waited for but then i was pretty disappointed because there was no meaning in exploring. In TESO i just walk around, exploring quests, chests, treasures and stuff and they do actually have something valuable for me (armor, mats and so on). GW2 wasn´t my game, TESO is. But it´s good to have players with different tastes.
And TESO feels very open to me and i am very often going back to zones i have completed fishing and stuff and maybe finding something new. Last night a found a note in Bentnik where someone wrote that i should find someone in Aldcroft. It was no quest at start (no quest marker and so on) but after i spoke to this man, i got i quest and that was a magic moment
So i call TESO my new home, subbed for 6 months and since i´m lvl 24 after 60 hours played, i guess i will have to sub again.
Agreed, exploring in GW2 felts very underwhelming, though I did enjoy some of the vistas and running around the Human City which was beautifully done even though it was just a huge area of wasted space.
Ah, so you didnt get your conditioned behavior sated, aka "chest", so its "underwhelming" rofl
ESO is on par with SWTOR for "exploraiton", you know, SWTOR had area quests and random chests also.
Eso on par with SWtOR "exploration"?
I have 2 main reasons for leaving SWtOR, first was the no effect what so ever in the gameworld when you for example saved a planet. ESO has this covered, sure it might be phasing, sure I see others most likely completing the same thing. But hey I am a gamer so my imagination is already higher then the common non gamer so it takes more then place me out of immersion. My second reason is that SWtOR felt really small. I really never felt any need to explore, I did try but was no really use since everyting is pretty much pack together.
ESO on the other hand feels very open. Hardly any blindwalls unless they are more natural like a mountain to steep to climb.
To me if a MMO even if it's themepark doesn't give me room to explore then I know it's not the game for me. Luckely ESO doesn't give me that feel of not being able to explore and actually let's me explore.
I have 4 character, 2 of them run the same staters area's and with many same quests, yet with both I also discover new quests. To me ESO has this Elder Scroll exploring fibe, but to feel that it all depend on how gamers play ES games as I am sure many play it many different way's.

Gw2 was the super exploration. All beautifull places were marked on the map all you had to do is rushing them one by one and "jumping puzzling" them up
*sigh*
pois/vistats were just tip of the iceberg obviously targeted at people like you
I would like for once to talk to somone who knows what hes talking about....for a change
Then please, before you try to put down anyone else around here explain why pois and vistas are just "the tip of the iceberg", it's been 3 pages and you haven't formulated your opinion properly besides "nuh-uh, GW2 is better".

two OR SO days after you get 17 and don't buy that horse. I just tried to make my armor last until I hit 2 levels and crafted new armor, never really repaired at all.

I bought the 42k horse at around lvl 37 I think. I thought I was slow because I wasted money with some motiffs, rebuying my bank and inventory slots and also that I sell only a few type of things to the vendor.
The idea to make money is: don't repair; craft all your gear; finish everything on the zone so you get overleveled; gather a lot, you will end up with loads of materials and even if you don't sell to other players the extra money from selling to the vendor is good. My friend managed to get the horse at lvl 30 because he deconstructed far less equipment than I did (I only sell to vendor white woodworking equips).

Point taken, but what modern MMO does exploration better than TESO? Todays MMOs are not like those gone, Lotro beats Teso for exploration as an example. But that's what seven years old now? Todays easymode MMOs do not want you to have to spend to much time going from A to B. GW2 was alright for exploration but TESO is better, there are so few modern MMOs that can even hold a light to TESO when it comes to exploration.
