Selling Alpha Access for $150 and Beta Access for $50 - $100 for a game that has been out for a year

Trion released their founders packages and does it seem wrong to sell "Alpha" and "Beta" founder's packages for such a high amount feel wrong to anyone else?  The game has been out for a year, it seems like the only reason they have alpha and beta is so they can sell access to it.

    It has also only been out for a year in what seems like every other place but the States. That could be a reason for the pricing.

    That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

    The reason for this is:

    A, this is their version and regardless of whether it's been out for a year, they still need to have an alpha, beta and stress tests for "their version"

    B, they want to get an influx of money and know people will pay it. Especially since (I imagine) they will have the game f2p with optional sub plan.

     

    You don't know how much money you are going to get with a f2p plan and they want to front load their income a bit.

    I hate the fact beta now days is part of the business model. Sad state of things really. Sad part is if its a game I really wanted to play, I would pay as high as 19.99. For $150 you better clean my house and cook me supper.

    The game is hardly worth paying $10 to get into beta let alone 100. Alot of fools handling this game in general.

    Its alpha , beta and  3 months sub/patron pass and bunch of other goodies ?  seems ok  , i'd go for the 50 bucks one hehe, anyway, seems the article has been taken down ? so we're back to speculating xd

    Yeah, but it's not just for Alpha/Beta access. There's usually other value adds, too. Like Mounts! I can't tell you how much I regret not buying TESO CE. For an extra 20 bux I could have had a damn mount. Instead I'm hiking my ass everywhere. Ultimately it'll depend on the value, for me. If it's like a mount + this + that, I might consider it. Probably not for anything over the $50 mark though. I just generally don't go there.

    Article has already been taken down.  Talking about it with a friend and discussing how its basically Pay 2 Win with these founder packs due to titles and costumes that come with stats.

    I am told that titles in the game are not that easy to obtain as in other games and that assassin costume is hard to craft.  I do love me some Trion and I am almost lazy enough to buy the 150 founders pack when they release it.  :P

    Get a IP spoofer and play it for free in another country to see if you like it and then wait for it to come out F2P in NA. Just saved you 150 bucks!!!!!!

    This topic has over 10+ pages of discussion on the official forum within 10 minutes of the article, most of the people are very upset with Trion's decision.  A lot of items they were selling are pretty much pay-to-win.  Maybe Trion reconsidered it and will bring something new to the table after the backlash it got?

    How much of the pricing strategy is determined by XL-Games ?

     

    I'm sure Trion have to deliver a certain financial return on the game, XL aren't going to give them the rights for free.

    You can upgrade to a digital CE if you already have the Standard.

    It's funny. Not sure why, but I'm getting a Vibe that Trion are kicking themselves for taking on this project and now need to take in some $$$ to assure the big wigs this is still a good investment

    I lost interest in it months ago and I'm a sucker for new MMO's

    Thats what I said...They havent announced it yet..

    If you read the AA forums, the community manager stated that the packs will be released within 24 hours of now and they had massively take it down because they wanted info on the packs up on their site before any third party site.  No word on the change of price.  I honestly don't think its that bad.

    Edit: nvm, found the oficial respond to this matter, prices are not set yet.
