Anything in Wildstar for us casuals

NirvyNirvy Member Posts: 73

Before you start, yes im casual. And yes i know full well Wildstar is a Hardcore raiding only game.

...but no in not a n00b or lack skills. I have raided EQ, EQ2, Vanilla WoW, Rift, Lineage, Eve etc.

I have done my share of progression raids, 5 hours a night 5 days a week, but things change. Now i have a wife and kids and no longer have that time, i still see myself as fairly well skilled at MMO's however.

Now i can play a fair bit, but can never guarentee i can be online, so will never get in a raiding guild as i will end up letting people down having to dash of to see the baby etc.

So my idea of endgame is super hard dungeons, maybe an hour long, maybe a bit more, ones i can hop on and try to plough through.

So what (if any) is the endgame for ex hardcore players who simply lack time, but not the skills?

Cheers!

From what I gathered, there is a solo progression line as well. Also, Crafting, PVP, and a housing system you could play as a game by itself.

Will you get as good of gear soloing as you would in 40 mans? I sure would hope not, but as long as it allows you to progress in the solo mode then you are all set. Maybe even some day casuals will realize that it doesn't take 10 hours to run a raid group.

I'm in the same boat as you are and don't plan to do any raiding either.

But, I'm looking forward to some Arena and Warplots PVP as well as heroic dungeons. I might even do some dailies and public events in max level zones.

Raids are often emphasized in order to bring in the hardcore guilds, which will in return make the game popular and create word of mouth advertising among players.  But, I think that in reality, raids will not be the content that the majority will take part in.

Wildstar plays similar to WoW. There is lots of casual questing, and story as you level up. However, once you cap out, it is very hardcore raiding/PvP. There are at least a few good months of casual content before you cap out, so you should try it, and not rush to endgame.

I also left the raiding department a while ago, but not only raiding is off for me nowadays, i also find it harder and harder for me to even socialise with people in game.

Since i'm also quite hesitant to pre-order (along with the performance problems which i think are here to stay for a while). I recently read something about a "Dresura" (sp?) questline, that is supposed to string the solo'ers along, but i can't find the topic anymore. Does anyone have infos on that?

And never will. In Vanilla WoW only about 5% did endgame and only 1-2% did the actual 40man RAIDs.

Hence, why Blizzard dropped them in future expac packs, as they could no longer justify the Development costs of 40man RAID content.

It's fun to see another Developer going at it again, but after launch with future expacks here too it will go the way of the Dodo.

It's inevitable. Just too expensive to continue to develop if only a tiny fraction of the playerbase uses it.

They just do it now for launch, to draw in all the attention and get the extra players buying the game. And that's it.

Exactly. People are so excited that this game is hardcore and it will have 40-man raids, but it isn't going to last. It really isn't financially safe plan.

What will happen is they'll start to lower raid requirements to make it easier for casuals, because they will leave once they feel like they are unable to complete the game and they make up the biggest group, which will in turn piss off hardcore raiders and then cause the game to go F2P.

Edit: To the OP, you will have things to do until max level and then you will be forced into hardcore raiding or PVP. If you wait long enough, they will make it easier as new raids come out or when the game goes F2P.

I'm going to be ordering and playing WS.  Even though I have no intention of raiding. As some other people have pointed out. There is PVP, crafting, things you can do with your house, adventures, dungeon instances, leveling your path. I was thinking about not ordering WS until last beta weekend.   What changed my mind? Well:

    1) I had been in the at least 2 other beta weekends before last weekends, and wasn't impressed. Found 1 to 10 to be a bit too tedious. I don't know if they changed anything between previous weekends and the last. But the 1 to 10 experience for me felt more streamlined and less of a pain to do. Though Dominion side is a bit of a mess imho if you take the default route (Levin Bay I think it was). As much as I want to play Dominion I found the Exile two start area's to be much better for progressing.

    2) I managed to level all the classes to 15 minus Stalker and Gunslinger. I have no interest in either honestly. Found that the classes I leveled I enjoyed, and seriously wanted to see what they would be like at 50 with all the options unlocked.

    3) I think I can live without top end gear because I found myself for the most part just having a lot of fun with the classes and the single Adventure that got unlocked at 15. So I can see myself leveling up alts for both sides without burning myself out. As I haven't gotten high enough for Dungeon yet so that was something else to look forward to.

Thanks to Leadhope screwing over all non-PH region people on the KUF beta. I'll be spending myself with Wildstar this weekend again.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Thanks for all your answers guys. I think i shall just wait and see. I have only played the tutorial, maybe to level 6, and it didnt inspire me that the solo game play is much fun, im hoping the gameplay gets a bit better later. I may try this weekends test and try to get a bit higher level and see if it improves.

I will buy this game so long as endgame as something i can do on my own, or a lot of dungeons i can do with small groups. Fingers crossed this is true as the game does look fun :D

    Thanks!
