Their communities depend on ppl who love the pros and can cope with the cons. Up to recently I could cope with the inflation but yesterday I realised that it's not gonna be easy. What I like about FFXI is that it brings the community together since alot of things depend on u grouping with others to accomplish them. If u want to get Fenrir or Diabolos, try looking for a high lvl group. Sure it might take some time but in the end u will have two powerful summons and u will assist ur future XP pts alot more effectively.

If I went about doing that tho, I'd get called a beggar.  And I always liked earning things on my own.  If I did do the battles, I'd like to participate and be able to help in them because it IS my summons I'm trying to obtain.  But I understand your point and I will give it a try at least.  But how many people would be willing to help a 54-60 summoner get Diablos and Fenrir?  I can't seem to find an LS willing to do that much for me.  Most LSes don't really include me much with stuff =p finding a decent LS on Lakshmi is a bit hard.

FFXI is a disappointment to the Final Fantasy series, and a disappointment to MMORPGs in general. BUT HEY, IT HAS CAT GIRLS IN IT!!!!
Blah, blah, blah. I hear this crap from FFXI fans all the time. "There's always something else to do!" Yes, and how much of that "something else" involves standing around? "The game is really different!" From other Final Fantasy games, yes. From other MMOs? Nothing special at all. "You gotta do things in a group! That's what MMOs are about!" Meaning, you have to sit around LFG for a few hours in hopes of getting to fight the same crab over and over again for days. Weee!
Keep convincing yourselves that you're playing a "fun" game because it's an online Final Fantasy. Fanboys. If ur criticising this game why do u post in its forums?

Sounds like a Dark Knight with crappy EQ who gets himself killed on a regular basis...

Ok, In FFXI theres stuff to do if your lazy ass would go out and do it. And people that play this game I wouldnt call Fanboi's.. Maybe a few, but half the people probably have not even played a FF game other then this one. I suppose this game could make a fanboy tho, since it is called Final Fantasy, just like WoW fanboys, and Everquest fanboys.

Ok,You sat around town which means a few things. Youy probably dont have much cash, you probably dont have good gear (If your below 40-50*, and you dont have any crafting skills. I'll admit waiting for parties can suck, thats why you do other things while you wait. Theres a nice little search feature where you can make a note about your character, ex. "LV@5000 JP-EN-ok HP=Jeuno" that way when your out doing whatever they will see, hey this guy can get to Jeuno quickly because his HP is set there, so they will send you an invite while your out doing whatever. It really does work out nicely.

Another thing you COULD do is get a LinkShell that does stuff. Like NM,HNM,Summon Battles, Missions etc, that also makes the game more fun. The only thing thats really bad about the game are the prices on stuff at the Auction House, thanks to gil sellers things have gone way out of control.

hey just a quick question why does ff always do turn-based fighting eh it may be fun but it gets annoying is this game really worth it??? thnx

Whaaa?  lol, srry a bit confused about the question. FFXI isnt really turn based like it is in the consol games. Its more like, you auto attack, enemies auto attack and you choose things like items, magic, skills inbetween. Theres no waiting, hero and enemy are both attacking constantly with no periods of downtime.

I think thats what you were talking about anyways? lol

I wouldn't say that makes u a begger since everybody does it. If u were in my server I'd introduce u to a LS that helps out. To give u an example,I was doing the Rank 2-3 mission for Bastok (a minimum lvl 10 mission mind u) and I asked a friend to help out and 7 other members of his LS offered to help as well. I've seen alot of help from alot of ppl in many different situations because FFXI promotes this way of playing. My advice to u is to give it a try. Just stand in Jeuno and /shout for help with Diabolos and Fenrir fights. I'm sure u will find something.

I think I may actually give that a try once I get my Fame up for the rest of my Avatar Primes : ) But I may wait until 60.  Not sure if I'd be much help doing the Prime battles for Fenrir at 54. :)  Might get help with Diablos easier than Fenrir.  Not sure if Diablos requires any fame or not.. just needs certain length into CoP right?

Correct, you need to defeat Diabolos in CoP 3-5 to be able to get him as an avatar.

FFXI Is just not a good MMO. For one, the graphics are definitly not impresive. The combat system is about the most boring thing money can buy, I mean you'd have to be a die hard FF fanboy to grind with it. The grind is a bit difficult, actually its one of the most hardcore exp tables there is. This game just doesent seem to be attractive in the slightest way, lack of pvp, etc. I bought this game and played it for 2 days and then uninstalled it. On top of everything you NEED a party which sucks because there are alot of people that do not speak english. So stop telling yourself you love this game because thats impossible. This game sucks.

You all should see the flame wars that break out on the server forums on Killing Ifrit and Allahkazam. When you get higher level, that's when the drama starts.

Yeah! I'm not the only ne that thinks FFXI is a time-sink!! lol A 20 minute boat-ride, though very realistic, is just crazy imho. The vastness of the world is staggering, but I found myself spending more time running from point A to point B then I did actualy leveling most of the time. It's not unheard of to wait 20-40 mins for a party member to show up. I played a WHM so I was alwyas getting invited. Which is good to level, but time consuming to get there. I'f be on one side of the globe, and get invited to party on the other side. Which I thought was great....until I hopped on my Choco and just kinda pointed it in the right direction then went and got something to eat. Same thing witht he boat-ride. I'd sit at the bottom in the corner out of aggro range of the pirates and go have a smoke outside.

The people I met were mostly nice and helpful, there was always somethign to do no matter what level you were(though sometimes it could be boring to do the same thing and hear all the higher levels argue on LS about what to run and what needed improvemnt) I didn't think it was that bad of a game. I just didn't have that much time to invest in it. Crafting was interesing, the people were nice, the gil sellers sucked(o God! don't get me started on inflation, lol), but again, for everything there was to do in order to advance or have fun, I jsut didn't have the time. :(

It's nothing like the rest of the FF series, but I think one shouldn't expect it to be. It was a genre adapted to a different type of gaming world. I think they did a farely good job of adapting it, but then again there wasn't much to adapt. It's like all the other MMORPG's out there on some level or another, with it's flaws and virtues. If you're a hard-core FF fan, you'll either love it or hate it. Plain and simple, its the nature of "fanboydom." Don't get me wrong now, I'm a hardcore FF freak, but I just didn't have the time for it and the inflation really turned me off. Anyway, I think I'm begining to run in circles, must be late. >< So yeah, there's plenty to cheer for or cry against, but its relly no different than any generic MMORPG imho. Just REALLY time consuming.

I have never heard of an MMO that you can know so well in 2 days.... every MMO i played it took atleast a week to really get used to. The graphics arent bad at all. Even on low resolution, of course high resolution are awsome graphics that my computer can run easy. I dont see a problem with having to wait an hour for a group either. There is something called a community that allows you to talk to people. And the whole point of an MMO is groups. If you are going to spend ur whole time soloing you might as well buy an offline game that you dont have to pay monthly fees for. ::::12::

Can you remember a time when you were playing any of the FFXI games and you didnt have a party? this game is party based. That is what makes it better/different from the rest of the mmorpgs. This game is completely different because no matter what you doing (in a party, mining, crafting, exploring, etc...) theres alwats something else to do. If your playing WoW then the way you get money, exp, and complete quests is just by killing things, so it feels like you just killing things (by yourself) the whole game. In FFXI you have to always do things as a group, which i find more fun because isnt that what mmorpgs are about? playing together*. This game is even better if you play with your friends, so i reccomend buying the game for one of your friends and make sure they give you the buddy pass so you two can play together.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but basically ALL MMORPGs are based on grouping.  A few of them let you solo by choice if you WANT to.  In FFXI you HAVE to group.  Sorry, but I dont really like people telling me how to play my game by telling me i HAVE to group.  I'd rather have the choice.  Worst thing about FFXI in my opinion.
