Greetings!
I haven't been around here for some time. What little down time I've had was spent blowing stuff up on D3.
However, I recently had surgery which has had me on short term disability at home with nothing to do. I've grown quite bored.
I've been trying to get into an MMO and GW2 seems to be on the chopping block since I don't have to pay a sub for it.
The problem is that I log in and I don't really know what to do. I run around and do a heart quest thing. If I'm lucky I get to do a 'dynamic event', but everyone just scampers off doing their own thing and it feels entirely like a single player game.
Did I miss the GW2 gravy train? I logged in today and saw chat buzzing like crazy. I'm assuming that's the megaserver thing everyone is talking about. I just want to group up with people for some meaningful type of gameplay. As it is, D3 offers more replayability than this game does.
I feel like I'm missing something.
Thanks in advance for your time!

GW2 probably isn't the best example of an MMO, since it has so little of the stuff normally associated with it. Due to the design, it never really requires much organization or anything, so it's pretty normal to have short-term groups kind of form up out of nowhere long enough to kill whatever the event or boss is, and then everyone just sort of melds back into obscurity. PvP is sort of the same, where you are generally just zerging around with everyone else, until you run into a bigger zerg that kills you.
You make me like charity
First objective is to level your characters and purchase skills.
Go around, get the map completion, do your personal story, gather nodes.
If you don't have any real life friends to play with you, try to join a guild where someone is also leveling.
Of course the point is to have fun. If you don't, don't play it.

Play it for the story, for the beautifull views and if you are able to have fun with something, have fun with it.
THis is not for people looking for serious pve or competetive pvp .. this is for people who want to have fun with friends while enjoying the combat system and smoothness in pvp and test their real skills (not their character skills), this is for people who rather go visit enviromental landmarks and do jumping puzzles etc. instead of finding special mobs to grind, this is for people who prefer to spent 5+ hours on making the weirdest cosmetic set possible imaginable using rainbow colors instead of people going for the best gear.
I like this game. It has its flaws and has absolutely 0 endgame mostly and will most likely turn you off to play it alot of the times, but nonetheless as ive already spent over 800 hours on it (and i know alot of people who played WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more) its nonetheless fully worth it
After release i spent so much time in bathing cloths jumping off jumping boards, sunning on a beach and using weird tonics to transform myself into weird creatures together with friends and guildmembers.... in any other game that would be a waste of time, in this game it is a great way to spend you time :P

I think what the OP is saying is that he wants a party to get to 80.
I fear that is unlikely because there is no killstealing in this game so everyone just hits on mobs and everyone will get experience without having to form a group.
You will usually find more people dynamic events. The real group content is the dungeons but those are quite challenging and need good gear.
Dungeons have been done naked. Its a skill based game
And then 4.6 hours later you stop playing. I wanted to like this game but it really got old fast. I think it's a bit of a cautionary tale about how to have a lot of stuff that sounds good on paper but in the actual experience becomes inconsequential and doesn't really add to the whole. 4.6 hours is an exaggeration, but after leveling two characters to 80 I just felt like the gameworld and its contents were meaningless.
Yeah ok. He is brand new to the game - let's send him into dungeons naked. Good idea.
Yeah.
Leveling to 80 or killing Tequatl didn't cure cancer.

No it didn't. GW2 is a beautiful game, with fun combat, and a great crafting system. Yet for me it felt like the endgame was missing something. The dungeons and PvPvP failed to make me want to make GW2 a long term game.
Just pointing it out to get the picture. You need practice and gear helps to learn. BUT, you dont really need good gear. Greens will suffice for average skilled person.
If you want context, talk to scouts within the area and take a look at your story progress.
Dungeons start at level 30. You can make your own party group...there are plenty of friendly people to help you out.
You can level from sPvP, WvW, PvE, or play normally...
There is plenty to do.
"As you read these words, a release is seven days or less away or has just happened within the last seven days those are now the only two states youll find the world of Tyria."...Guild Wars 2
@OP, It depends what you want to do. GW2 offers variety for the leveling process. Dailies, Crafting, Exploration, Grinding, Heart Tasks, DEs, WvW, SPvP (i think), or a combination of all of them.
If you're already max level, achievements, puzzles, pvp, crafting, alts, events, guild missions, gear and dungeons, etc.
Set some goals for yourself. Join a guild. Do living story for now, until next one comes out.
If none of this interests you, then MMOs might not be for you.
Another problem with GW2 though, is that it is too extreme with cooperative play. What i mean, is that there isn't a requirement for grouping unless you're doing a dungeon. Perhaps, this is what you were trying to understand?
And of course the highlighted part is meaningless too.
You finished the game, had fun, and now you just want to complain about it?
What is wrong with you people?
FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!
People complain about the lack of end game in GW2 but for me I have never played a game with this much end game.
Well what I am trying to say is I love that they have a living story that updates every two weeks, and I love WvW and Spvp, I like getting achievments and unlock new titles and grind for different skins and the list goes on.
For me a game like World of warcraft didn't have any end game for me and this is because I hate doing raids over and over again for better gear.
So End game is a term who I feel mostly is a matter of taste. I mean I know that World of warcraft offers alot of end game material but they didn't give me anything that I like, so a matter of taste.
You can start to do dungeons at lvl 30 but most groups will kick you for being underleveled and/or undergeared.
There are group dynamic events but no one does them. Usually they take 5x the length of a normal dynamic event but give the same reward.
As far as replayability, sPvP and WvW are quite good if you're into that kind of thing but the PvE is really lacking. It's the same generic 10-15 dynamic events reskinned 1000 times over. What you're doing in Hour 2 is the same thing you will be doing in Hour 20, Hour 200, and Hour 2000.
If your big thing is PvE especially group PvE there are a lot better titles out there to try. I would suggest giving Rift a look.
Bought this game for my birthday several years ago.
Played it for several hours.
Unfortunately it did not capture my attention.
Will patch up, maybe it will provide some entertainment now.
I guess that's the beauty of B2P.
I forgot that I had this game on my puter.

You guys need to update your speech (that never was really good to start with)
Group Events often have Champion mobs and those drop (guaranteed) champion loot bags, so everyone does them.
With the megaserver even usually sparse populated zones are filled with people and map chat talking about the location of these group events.

it just might be fun tough
OP said himself he can't find anyone to group with. You can pretend there are dozens of people lining up to do group DEs but his experience says otherwise.
First, he said that people do Dynamic Events but that they scatter after.
Second, I have my own experience.
Image 1 - 7 little asuras (6 + myself that is in the SS) doing an event in the Asura starting area last saturday
Image 2 - A group event that according to you is never done being done by a few people it seems.
Third, exactly in which MMORPGs do you see strangers grouping to full parties to level?

You can claim that its raining all over you while its clearly cloudless sunny day. But who is anyone to tell you that its not, since its your "experience", amirite?
There is this litle thing called social interaction that goes a loooooooooong way, especially in GW2. I had better social experience in GW2 (outside of guild) than in LOTORO/RIft/SWTOR....even L2 of old. You get the gist.
The megaserver definitely helped out. I see people chatting in general chat. I even see a person here and there, but I guess I just don't know where to find the "fun" content.
I hate soloing, but doing an event with other people is just a mass zerg where I spam my auto-attacks. As a mesmer, it's not even worth it to summon an illusion for a mob that's going to get blown up in a second and a half.
I haven't tried dungeons so I could give that a shot. I'm pretty sure I'm undergeared so we'll see how that goes. I like my little mesmer guy, but I feel so detached from the world around me.
I guess it's tough coming from a game like EVE where you can feel your impact on the world around you. If my buddy and I are out on stealth bombers or cloaky recon ships, you're not going to be able to PvE comfortably without the fear of losing your super expensive ship.
I'll try to find a guild. Hopefully that will open things up a bit.
Mesmer is not an easy class to get into.
As usual, the game is better played with 1-2 other people.
The megaserver has the boon of populating more areas which will create more Dynamic Events, but the Dynamic Events are, IMO, generally more interesting with 2-5 people.
The dungeon community has a toxic side, but maybe you'll find decent people.
