Good and Bad of DnL

allthereallthere Member Posts: 26

Well first off  Not much for quest in the game that i could find, I am in a Light Guild...because there are way to many Dark guilds...the world in SoG looks real good, i went Snowboarding for the first time today and it was a blast.

My guild has 2 forts up so far and from what i can see from flying around the map the dark forts are like 10 to 1 to the light forts and that sucks.   I have spent the last 2 nights just flying around on my dragon checking out the world, and i would have to say that the snow and rain looks great and the fog and lighting rocks, in the 2 nights i have been flying around i still have lots to see in SoG.

The towns don't look all that good, and there are not that many NPC's in the game to find...But they do say that they will be adding some more quest soon..Hope so.

If you have a good card in your PC the players do look better even thow they look more like from a game back in 2002, but they do have till april to make it look better even thow i think the game won't come out till October.  and they will be adding in crafting soon too so that will be good.

Now the fighting could be allot better too, some times you can kill something that is 10 to 15 levels higher then you are, and other times you get beat by something lower then your level so they need to work on that part of the game.

And the PvP is not even worth doing right now because you don't get anything out of the fight like skill points or anything...but i am sure they will work on that too.

well i do say this about the game that it has a ton of possibilities, and i hope that they can get it done, because this game could be real good.

While I agree with the OP opinions, there is one thing I would like to add.

I am having fun. Some of the things I enjoy are:
    - The world is huge, even in SOG. There is lots to explore, and the world is well made, without sudden changes in environments. It's almost realistic in its creation.
    - Flying, snowboarding, parachuting, and gliding are all a blast. Although landing a glider is a skill I have yet to master image
-The ability to diversify your characters skills and stats makes characters the same class and level completely different.
    - The drops are good. I have yet to have to buy anything with any of my toons from a merchant, have just sold to them for goth to buy from other players.

It's got its problems, but has a good foundation. With the additional funds from the pioneer sales, maybe they can add the staff they need to finish the game up by April.

I am not a "fanboi", I just like what I see so far, and am optimistic. image

I don't much like a game where creatures mysteriously walk around with all sorts of loot that they have for no reason and never use against you.

Sounds like this game is just going to be a lot like all the others.  Just larger with some new activities like snowboarding.  I kinda want something with a little meat to it.

Its becuse crafting is not implented yet.

DEVs have stated that mobs will only drop realistic drops like if you kill a bear he will drop furs and tooths.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

I don't know how hard you guys think it is to make a mmorpg or a game for that matter but it is pretty damn hard. I know because I am currently in school learning to do such. As of where the game is right now I am fairly impressed. Of course it's going to have problems, its impossible to get anything perfect and is almost impossible to get it to good or even great.

Just imagine how good this game can be with the right amount of time energy put into it. I tell you one thing when the game does go live you can bet I will one of the first ones saying how great this game is and how I followed it from beginning to end with unwavering loyalty.

as stated many times before: if its too hard, then dont do it or at least accept your failure and stand up to it.

What have they accomplished so far - in the 5 years they spent developing the game? Adapted a world-engine that was developed by another company, added physics, clumsy character models, low-detailed buildings, transportation system, chat system, a very very basic combat system and a medicore skill system, a bit of lore and probably a small number of quests (which we have yet to see)...
What is missing? client/server stability and performance, in-depth combat, involving quest- and story line, housing/city-building, crafting, economy.

So will you please stop finding excuses for the striking incompentence of this developer team? I am not saying that the ideas behind SoG arent brilliant or anything, but it should be clear by now that the Dev Team was simply not up to the task (be it due to lack of skill or team size) to create the game that they have advertised for so long.

I would have to agree with this.  I have a love/hate relationship with DnL.  Love the game and hate the developers.  I bought a pioneer account based on what they advertised would be in Dark and Light.  They have until May 1, 2006 to deliver on that.  SoG has some great things...very large world, good weather effects and flying mounts.  Beyond that the game is pretty doggone bad.  After 5 years I would have expected more from them.  I have no idea what they have been doing for those 5 years but it sure was not developing game stability or content.  If Dark and Light does not deliver on May 1 what it advertised then my obligation for the purchased is over.  I will get my refund from C & B.  Or, at least I will try......image

In its current form this game offers ZERO threat to the mmorpg competition.  I will go as far as to say that I believe in its current state that the game is worse than Rubies of Eventide.  It definitely is worse than Horizons.

    Just my opinion.
