i was thinking about getting the trial of this, i was just wondering if it is a good game and if there is good population? and how much space does the trial take?

It is worth a look, try to get the catacombs addon for the trial though as that improves the graphics no end.
I think space on disk is around 2Gb (at work so not sure).
Can't comment on population as I'm on the Euro servers which are quiet at low levels, although by the number of this or that keep being won and lost I think there must be some hefty activity out there somewhere ::::01::

Kazanukari, I would certainly try it if I had the chance... id be playing it right now but It would be a waste for me to download it, I am off to basic training in a few days and wouldnt get any time to play it unfortunatly... maybe I will get a chance after I finish my training, but it seems great and everyone loves it... IMO its probably more fun then WoW... WoW is so boring to me now :( anyway, GL

Yes, its definitely worth playing. Read the 'free trial' thread on this forum. We bump it up from time to time. It's got directions on how to get the free trial and updated graphics for the game so you can see the full quality.

Good luck and welcome to DAOC :)

I think it's worth playing. But then I think it's the best MMO out there right now. But try it for yourself.

As for population, the population is picking up. A pretty good bit actually. Look at the growth just in January of this year so far. I have a feeling that if they keep making the improvements they have been this game could have new life breathed into it.

i cant find the free trial thread, and i dun have that much space so i need to see exactly how much it is

There's alot of good and alot of bad about DAOC. Over all I'd say it's a pretty balanced game. I think RvR is probably the rendition of consensual PvP in any MMORPG. It's not perfect by any means but it's ahead of the rest.

    its a really good game

I played it at my friends house for 1 hour and i was hooked on it so i bought it

the full version has better graphics than trial by the way

  • OwiranOwiran Member Posts: 22

Yes this is an excellent game, good graphics even on lowest settings with full version. I cant imagine full settings on an uber videocard.

The properties for my game folder says that its total size is about 3.7 GB. Keep in mind that is the full game, including ALL expansions, fully patched, and prolly some screenshots in there. The trial would be considerably smaller (since it doesn't have the Catacombs or DR content). But that gives you an idea of what kinda space you'll need after you play the trial, fall in love with the game and run out to buy the Epic Edition. ;)

I'll let someone who isn't as biased answer that one... ;)

I played WoW for a full year...it was my first MMO, and because I loved Blizz's Warcraft products before WoW, I enjoyed the story and it was a great learning experience (hence I played it for a year).

With that being said...I'm all growned up now (in MMO years) and it was time I played a REAL MMORPG. This is it! I've been playing for three weeks and the depth of the game is amazing to me. The graphics are awesome (with the Epic edition), and the gameplay is extremely addicting.

Which one is better? That's for YOU and YOU ONLY to decide...you're going to get a lot of people on this forum who are ex-WoW'ers that will share their ugly experiences in Azeroth. For me, it's a matter of what type of gamer you are...and I've graduated to DAoC!

    Good luck!

Sorenaskile - lvl 60 Hum Rogue - Cenarion Circle (RP server)
Sekrog - lvl 13 Troll Warrior - Nimue (RP server cluster)

I should summarize by stating that I'm a casual gamer (5-10 hours weekly)..

I think that PvE in WoW is better than in Daoc. You have many quests to do and rewards are nice. You also see them in advance. Also exloring WoW world first time is really interesting.

In PvP Daoc is real winner compared to WoW. Combat is more tactical and it is meaningful. Also enjoying playing on classic servers so there is no Trials of Atlantis content needed. PvP in WoW is fun, but it is just for few kicks and  reputation grind for players. When/if they implement something that resembles Daoc's frontiers its really going to right direction. As of now, Daoc is clear winner.

Have played both and agree with this assessment but only somewhat.  PvE is *slightly* better in WoW... And ONLY in the very high end.  Quests in DAOC are a LOT more interesting to me than WoW's cookie cutter quests.  I did like WoW's (and EQ2's) Quest interface better, but lets face it: they're 4 years newer too.   On raiding WoW and EQ2 are slightly better than DAOC but I'd say that DAOC is comparable to them in quality.

Where the REAL tie breaker is is the PVP.  DAOC is, hands down, the BEST Realm oriented PVP game on the market and in many folks opinions the best overall PVP available period, hands down, end of story.

IMO DAOC's graphics are better than either EQ2 or WoW but that's more a question of preferred style than preferred quality because all 3 have beautiful graphics.  I just prefer the style of DAOC's the best.  Gameplay I really think they're a wash, no one game really stands above the others.  UI wise WoW's default UI is 2nd to EQ2's and DAOC's is a distant 3rd but with DAOC you can use 3rd party UI's that you can download off the 'net and use.  They bring DAOC's UI up to if not better than the others.

So all in all I think DAOC is a far superior game to both WoW and EQ2.  But that is also largely because I'm a huge fan of RVR oriented PVP AKA: PVP with a purpose.

At worst it's worth giving the free trial a spin.

I haven't been playing long just about a week or so,but I'd have to agree with most of what Elnator has said here.
I haven't got to any RvR yet so I am right now only comparing PvE in both games and WoW was probably a little more newb friendly to start.

But here I am really enjoying the quest options such as the choice between Task dungeons,Guard quests,Epic quests, named npc quests,or just plain grinding...so much to do even early on(I'm just level 7).I hope it keeps up as I level with the varied quests, let alone finally getting to RvR.

Graphically I loved WoW's world artistically, less so the character graphics which were a little blocky with very few options when creating a new avatar.

I think DAoC combines the best of both worlds in graphics.
Quite frankly I was really surprised at how good the graphics are for a 4 year old game even with the updates.

Also agree with the UI,I like WoW's the best by a longshot, for me even more than EQ2's,especially the quest display, much easier to navigate.

Elnator,do you recommend a particular 3rd party UI? That has been the only thing lacking in the game for me.

Pretty much everyone in RBW uses this one if they use a player made UI:
    http://www.derida.de/

There are tons of 'em out there to choose from. I haven't really sampled many yet. I use this one because when talking to a guildie about a UI feature it's easier to be on the same UI :) LOL

Derida's is one of the most popular out there, very well done, players love it. Unfortunately not too long ago she stopped working on it. It all works fine now, but unless she changes her mind a couple patches down the road it might start to have problems. Prolly nothing to worry about too soon, just giving you a heads up. :)

    Yah I know.

Speaking of which, what're the odds of the devs making a new UI? It's not like it's a particularly arduous task to make a UI based on Derida or totally home grown that's just more friendly than the current one? I'd make my own but I like Derida :) It'll be a shame if she doesn't keep at it because I flat out love her UI.

We know its an area the players would like to see worked on, and its definitely on our list, but I can't say when or even if we'll get around to it any time soon. It is definitely something we WANT to do, just not that high on the priority list atm. :(

Again thanks for the quick reply guys...who needs official forums when you get this kind of fantastic help here :)

I will look for her UI and give it a try,I'm sure if you folks like it it will be really good.
It's the only thing missing for me to completely forget WoW lol.
