Nope. If I had my way, everyone would be stuck in 1st person as well. Muhahaha!
Seriously though, having it as an option would make it mandatory to use, because seeing enemy nameplates would be a huge advantage over those that have the option turned off in PvP. Something is only optional if it doesn't affect the overall gameplay experience for EVERYONE.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
I despise floaty nameplates over everybody and mobs. I'd only want to be able to differentiate friends, guildies and party/raid members. Outside of that I can't support as the person above me stated... people use it as an advantage in PVP generally.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
The game already breaks down at times in massive pvp battles. I can't see this as being a good idea even if you could disable it. They really need to focus on more important matters/content/fixes. Now if you petitioned to having a guar mount that you can cast on while riding..... I'd be all for that. On another note when did change.org become the goto for mmo developmental ideas?
The irony of a change.org petition to make ESO be like every other MMO out there...
Keep nameplates out. I kinda like not having to see an ocean of - Vertern Billy'Bob Master Safe Cracker <Insert Witty Pop Culture Reference Guild Name Here > - floating around.

I would like to thank you all for reminding me why I am moving farther and farther away from this genre.
Signing petitions to make changes in an MMORPG....seriously, find something else to do people, you are all taking this way too seriously. If you cannot convey your opinion inside of the actual community of the game you are playing then all hope is lost and honestly you should quit playing.
This just shows that MMORPG's are getting to where they are not even fun enough to actually engage ones own community, sad really. Much irony to this topic.
i am finally getting used to playing withouth nameplates... You just have to target things.... Right now, i would say its quite immersive, and i dont miss the nameplates anymore..... I dont think i would turn them on again, as i love the immersiveness.. But for those people that really want them back, there should be aninterface option to turn them on..
but starting a petition for it? Not my style....

Cut to Average Joe of the MMO. Hair disheveled, a myriad of stains on his faded, beige tank-top. The worn decal of a Sleestak on its front, cracked and peeling. Looking more like a dirty and incomplete image from an unfinished jigsaw puzzle. The hole at the side seam...accidentally torn in an attempt to stretch it over a sagging and girth-defined mid-section. Teeth yellowed by Mountain Dew (diet of course) and spackled with flecks of orange from Cheetos Cheese Puffs & Nacho Cheese Doritos peek out through shriveled, nicotine scented lips...courtesy of a crooked, mouth-breaching smirk. Bloodshot eyes stare through bottle-thick lenses, scratch-etched to the point of near uselessness. Nail-gnawed fingers stab furiously and seemingly with purpose at the sticky keys of a specialized illuminated gaming keyboard. His oily face bathed only by the glow of the three 24 inch monitors that engulf his entire field of vision.
Cut to a pinky hitting the "Enter" key. His forefinger pushes up his glasses by the taped nose-bridge. Sighing in relief ..he cracks his hairy knuckles producing a unexpectedly loud sound...a primitive call to attention to the fact that things will not stand. For he has just electronically signed a petition to make his MMO more "livable"...and he will not be forsaken. He WILL be heard. Or, at the least, read.
His part, for what it is worth, is done.
It's up to Zenimax now.
A quick shot of the center monitor screen then camera makes a 180 degree turn. Stopping briefly on MMO Joe's face then panning slightly up, to the side and forward over his shoulder . Camera tracks farther forward through the open window over a long ignored and un-mowed backyard overgrown with weeds. Dogs, nearly dead of starvation, beg for food in weakened pathetic howls pushed from fragile rib-cages. Bony necks shackled to a post by short chains. They are nearly immobile and lethargic in the sweltering heat. Continue tracking forward to the back of the yard...as the focus gets sharper ..focusing on an old decrepit picket fence. So close now that we can see the wood grain on one solitary plank and the many termites that call this piece "home". Now pull the shot back and up...far above the fenced in backyard to reveal a huge radioactive landfill bordered by the unkempt yards of an entire neighborhood on one side. A kindergarten and playground on another and a meat processing and packing facility on the last. In the lower corner of the screen an old woman is being beaten and mugged at the end of the street after going out to get some cigarettes at the corner store. Pan farther back and up then... turning the camera skyward, straight up through what appears to be a dark clouds only vaguely masking the soot-saturated smog of the refinery a few miles away. It becomes gradually darker the farther up we go and eventually fading to pitch-black.
I signed but by the looks of it (I was 21st to sign), I am not expecting this to go far.
I enjoy seeing what others name their characters. That may seem odd, but it's true. I've tried "people watching" in ESO and it is very spotty.
Having said that, I agree that such functionality should be entirely optional and entirely negated in PvP. Those of us who want name plates are seemingly in the minority and we need to recognize that.
Only willing to support it if I have the option to turn it off completely i.e. if I so choose NO ONE gets to see my name over my head as well as me not being forced to see other peoples.
While I would support such a move, where nameplates would only be visible if another player clicked directly on you, (how it worked in DAOC) and in PVP, only brought up your faction, since I decided not to sub for some deeper issues not really my place to vote.

You say you want nameplates? The developers have put nameplates in the game. They expect people to use the nameplates that already exist in the game.
So when you say, "We need nameplates!"
They say, "There are nameplates in the game already, learn to use them."
This is why in over a year and half of posting about this subject (yes, this happened with a handful of players in the closed beta and they made a huge deal about it), it has never been addressed or even talked about by the developers.
If you want to be heard, a good step to take would be to say SPECIFICALLY what you want changed. You don't just want nameplates, what you are looking for essentially, are 'hovering nameplates' - for NPC's, players, etc. Furthermore, there is a reticle addon out already that enables you to see the names of objects/players/NPC's when you hover over them.
Originally posted by BurntCabbage ppl need to just stop trying to make this game and ever other hyped game that comes out "wanting to look n feel" like their old game...soo many out there ask and want unique mmorpgs but at the end of the day all they want is what they had..i for one will not / would not sign..nthx..whats next??ppl trolling zone chat about gear scores??

No nameplates.
The above is my personal opinion. Anyone displaying a view contrary to my opinion is obviously WRONG and should STHU. (neener neener)

So we need to create a change.org petition to stop change.org petitions affecting the game lol
We do indeed! For the Queen!
