Mega server is great for events. You can retain your server identify by still playing with people you would have before and guesting them into your zone.

That does not really feel like server identity, in fact, there is not much fo a server identity anymore.  That's just trying to keep on the same map with your friendlist, which was made because we were on the same server, now we are just a soup of people thrown in the pot.

The way to make GW2 better is to go back to the drawing board, remove all the easy casual crap and make guilds a prominent part of GUILD Wars 2. Tequila FTW

^ that's a nice way of saying this game is fundamentally flawed in ways i can't personally reconcile. And tequila.

Agree but this goes to all mmo's and its one of the big flaws of them. With the time we as players lost the server pride, the epic feeling, the community factor and other things that are/were the heart of a mmo. Imo, tuning down the importance of guilds is the last stroke to mmo's.

Of course, like it or not, they are on and they are not surely going back because some like me didn't like the change.

Of course Piken Square was pretty well populated and events were not a problem, there is also the fact that roleplayers, like me,  got the short end of the stick, but Anet never really catered to roleplayers in first place so nothing new there.

I suppose for a game called Guild Wars does make more sense to be more tied to a Guild than a server, but, and is only a personal opinion, I liked the server athmosphere, with the who's who and all that jazz, now I feel thrown into a map with 6000 unknow people, that I might not even ever meet again, and have no reason to interact with knowing that I am on a permanent overflow map. It killed a bit the game for me.

Buut I think I am one of the few that didn't like the change. Most seem to enjoy it, so I suppose they did what was best for the majority and in such cases, Ubi maior minor cessat.

I guess I was unlucky to be part of the "minor".

I know what you mean. I aswell played on Piken Square. I really dislike how MMORPG's no longer care a single bit about roleplayers. All they care for are PvPers and Raiders. Their defense always been like (also from none rpers) that there are more PvPers and Raiders...but they fail to understand that many RPers also PvP and Raid so they get counted double yet many PvPers and Raiders do not RP. Their groups might be bigger but there are many RPers among them as well. You hear a lot of these arrogant twats on forums saying "I rather see them adding a new raid/battleground then players houses, chairs to sit in, more open buidings for rpers to rp in, etc". And i can see why they prefer that, but as RPers its get really annoying that we never get anything.

We see regular new dungeons and such added to MMO's and new PvP grounds but never extra content for RPers. And a MMORPG is played by three groups, not just two and you can't just exclude one group because it has fewer people. Cause even so RPers are still many players playing that game. Heck i bet RPers are often the most loyal group of players you have in a MMORPG. Where others switch to that new game for the new challenges there RPers often stick around as long as the community is good.

It is rather sad that LotrO is the last game that truelly cares for RPers as well. Offering a ton of stuff for RPers without sacrificing anything for PvPers and Raiders. But developes/publishers are lazy and only care for two out of the three groups. They forgot what a MMORPG was. Heck in SW Galaxies and MMORPG's before that it was normal to offer plenty for RPers cause they where seen as equal as the other groups. Now we are just thrown aside and have to do with what they give. That gets less and less with each MMO :(

All that said i don't think you will have to worry much. RPers will still be at the RP hubs. As long as other players can be mature enough around the RPers and accept that people RP it should be fine. The only worry i have is that we get alot of those RP bashers who think they are very funny by making fun out of RPers and ruin their events by dancing naked in the middle of the group and calling them all kind of names. That could drive RP communities in guild RP only and making the RP disappear from the streets.

Welcome in 2008 and up :( Where games have to ultra easy or the mainstream gamer gets confused and refuses to buy your game. A time where MMORPG's are nothing more then singleplayer games that you play together with thousands of others at the same time. Where challenge is equal too "omg i have to work to get great loot"  and "pfff teamwork? I paid for this game, its all for me and about me!"

It appears that with each game it more and more become super easy singleplayer experiences. Look at TESO, that game is ultra easy and the grouping is even bugged beyond believes....A MMORPG where grouping up causes you to have a ton more bugs...how insane is that.

And WoW, remember the first years of that game? When raiding was hard, you needed 40 pepole or so and teamwork....look at that game now, its all made super easy to please gamers who don't want to invest time. And don't come with the bs "I work fulltime, i simply don't have the time for raids". That has nothing to do with the difficulty. I mean a raid doesn't have to be a 8 hour taking thing. But the bosses should be hard, there should be a challenge and a high change you get whipped if you don't do it right. And even when doing it right it should still be a challenge. Now you get the great stuff in no time and challenge has become a ugly word in games. Yeah yeah there is Dark souls, whoopidoo, one game that is hard. ten years ago there where tons of games that challenged you. MMORPG's shouldn't be a singleplayer experience. They should make you have to group up for things. I miss "lfg Hogger" moments.

well i play mostly WvW and some sPvP (very rare), but when i join for guild missions the mega server mechanics deliver some frustrating moments trying to find each other between the different shards ... also the missions become zerg festivals where you have to hurry to claim the event for you before others... i believe they should add option to select to join your homeland's shard, so there would be able the RP guys to be together or the Teq's hunters, or for guild missions or even if you want to run one a quiet map ...

Thankfully, these haven't really been issues for me. Overall, the megaserver has been a massive improvement. It's great running around and actually getting events done. People are finally killing the random champions that spawn, completing events that are triggered etc. It feels just like my experience during the beta weekends/release. It's definitely refreshing seeing people in odd places that were previously deserted.

The boss fights have turned into quite a zergfest, but to be honest these have always been zergfests. Now they're just bigger zergfests. When ever has the Fire Elemental, Maw, Golem or a number of other bosses been a challenge? Now they're completely slightly quicker but regardless, they were completed either way. Tequatl, on the other hand, we're still struggling to get right!

As much as a GW2 head I am , it's getting dam old how many times they have been redoing the same content over and over since OB.Now the same trend as last two years is happening again.

Redo content, People bark about it and then the devs change it.

Ok I've been though 3 big overhauls and boss, mobs and loot changes.

It's still the same dam CONTENT! With less and less rewards over the last two years.

ENOUGH ANET.STOP NOW. ADD NEW CONTENT FROM HERE ON OUT. NO MORE REMAKING THE SAME OLD CRAP! PLEASE STOP !.

Sorry I've had to get this off my chest for awhile now.

Gotta take the good with the bad. I had forgotten how awesome this game was when people were everywhere. I think it's a great change overall.

When we did guild missions this week with 30 people we had no issues except for the guild rush mission where 2 parties got split off from the main group and couldn't get it completed in their instance.

The other guild missions went smoothly though and everyone got into the same instance.

However, personally I have been enjoying the changes as there are more people around when I'm levelling alts.

I have a good fix: Up the bloody difficulty to what it was during the first beta weekend.

I love the game but the open world is just too easy except tequatl and the great jungle work. Well, temple of Baltahazar is good as well and Grenth is close at least.

But the megaserver works excellent for me (the difficulty have been an issue since the third beta weekend anyways). A lot more people to play with in the mid level zones. The noob zones, Orr and Frostgorge looks the same (but maybe that is because Seafarers always been a pretty populated server).

Hmmm.... The problem of balance and challenge are long time GW2 nemeses.... But I am interested to see the world more populated. Too bad it has never found good PvE balance without the Trinity. They never found a better alternative.

Being a WvW'er I love the changes withe the Megaserver.  If I decide that I feel like Temples or World Bosses, I do not have to wait for a server event. I can have success doing them any time of any day. So regardless of your server you will find good PvE when you want it.

As great as this sounds to me, I do see that Megaservers have stripped away Servers PvE Identity. Servers that once had strong and active PvE Communities no longer matter.  Events that were once selling points for servers are now impossible to do. They can not even find a good order to do a Queensdale Champ Train!

So now, how do new players look for a server? The only thing that gives a home server an identity now would be WvW.  People that stayed on weak WvW  servers because of a strong PvE Community now have no reason to stay.

I may be dead wrong but when the WvW Spring Season is over I believe there will be mass Home Server Migrations.

So initially what is seen to affect PvE, I think is going to make a major change in WvW. All we can do is just sit back and wait to see what unfolds.

You make a pretty good point with this post.  I love WvW as well, but the megaserver has caused lots of changes to community interaction.  You no longer know who's on your server simply by seeing them on /map chat, because you're sharing with every other server.  And I think you may be right about people switching because of it.

Plus when you're sharing servers with other worlds you can't scream out your world vs world plans.  It wouldn't even be a good idea to say that your server is winning/struggling because your matchups may see it and some may try to take advantage of it.

Basically everything you typed here is nothing new to people who are playing on high population servers..

And we still have trouble downing Tequatl xD

I was on Blackgate, so events were very well populated all the time. But there is a difference since the Megaserver went into effect. I think it's a combo of the slightly increased population and the "regularity" of events, making it more likely people show up for them.
