I am not sure about the other stories, but ALL of the Everquest 1 stories contain misinformation

If it were my funeral, I'd rather be remembered for having the funeral that resulted in an epic fight where lots of people had fun!    :o)

Could have just made the list leeroy, serenity now, british dying, and 9 of the big eve events :)

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

    Currently Playing EVE, ESO

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.

And, as can be seen in my sig since forever it seems, ribbitribbitt and his memorial will live on forever ... brings me to tears still.

Tho I don't think it was in the spirit of this list hehe

I am surprised there was no mention of the DAoC RvR moment after 9/11 occurred. It is impressive even still to see realm enemies side by side not fighting in the Frontiers and marking that tragic event.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

The reason none of these events are current is because MMOs have been watered down to such a shallow routine that nothing is epic anymore.  GW2 is like herpderp guaranteed success and progression without any real effort... WoW is a shell of what it once was, and the other games all follow the same generic formula.

I was a bit surprised that DAoC didn't make the list either, but I guess it didn't have the mass name recognition of "Evercrack" during the times that I can recall epic events taking place.

I was on Merlin server, at the time, the server was allegedly known to have a small group of West Point students using the Frontiers for tactical warfare simulation and strategic  practice, and supposedly members of Mythic played on that server as members of the Midgard realm.  I don't know if this is true or not, I just know that in DAoC's early days, Midgard was the overpowered realm of choice for many, and on Merlin server they were merciless.

The Midgardians held the relics for every keep on the frontiers for MONTHS!...

...until one day, in the very wee hours of the morning, leaders of alliances from both the Albion and Hibernia realms collaborated via IRC to storm the Midgard frontier en masse.   They destroyed every filthy cave-dwelling Middie in their path.  Hundreds of players filled the screen, most people had to aim their in-game cameras downward to avoid the slide-show frame rates, spell particle effects were going off everywhere, and the dead piled up.

Gleefully trotting over the corpses of numerous Midgard players, the Albs and the Hibs split the relics evenly between them. As the event wound down, bolstered by their newfound vengeance, packs of Albion and Hibernian players split off from the main raid to pursue the Midgard stragglers.

The Mids still reeling from a blinding defeat, and suffering from an excessive amount of hubris, didn't know how to react to being so thoroughly trounced in the wake of this collaborative revolt from both the Hibs and the Albs, so they took their wounded egos to the forums.

Discussions about what was considered a breach of DAoC's Terms of Service arose, with some Midgard players making an embarrassing nuisance of themselves.  Cries for suspensions and rollbacks ensued, but in the end the Albs and Hibs got to keep their spoils of war, and a handful of the more notoriously assholish Midgard players threw a tantrum and left the game.

I was obviously not a Midgard player, as I reflect upon this moment in DAoC's pre-ToA history with some fondness.  Good times.

When Zezima was smithing steel in Runescape.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

    Lesson?

WoW players are dicks, and their memorable moments are annoying/banworthy.

Meanwhile other games have stuff like what almost everybody in the game did for ribbitribbit in everquest 2..

This isnt fair.  there are some absolutely fantastic people and communities in WoW.  And the older games have things such as killing the game's creator, stopping progress from happening across all servers, and clever griefing.

The ribbitribbit playground to me is the greatest moment in MMORPG history.  And yes, the credit goes to the wonderful EQ2 community but few games have the mechanics to allow it.

You know when there is something wrong with your genre when a list of famous player driven event consist mostly of people trolling there fellow gamers

That are events I would have loved to have seen in a list like this. That to me are player driven events. Most of what is in this list is orginised by single players or small groups. At least the EvE thing I could accept because it was a big operation lasting for a year. Yet the lord british thing was just one player killing one developer by accident even.

    ...are you kidding me?

The one Eve Online moment you put on there is the Heist?

What about some of the massive Ponzi schemes that were successfully pulled off?

What about when a B.O.B director defected to Goonswarm during a major war, and that director dissolved his former alliance which affected thousands of players?

What about the massive fights and wars, such as the most recent Bloodbath of B-R5RB or the earlier Battle of Asakai (not sure if I spelled that correctly), where THOUSANDS of players fought together in one unscripted player-made fight, which no other MMO in history could even attempt, and is literally in the Guinness Book of World Records?

Oh, and all of the above also made it into various newspapers/news sites. Not indie videogame ones, but actual news sources. I don't remember any of the other ones you mentioned (aside from the Eve one) doing the same.

    Where's the any key?

If your profile is true, you were 11 or 12 at the time playing the beta for the first MMO to be released commercially, which is odd in and of itself......don't flatter yourself :P
