I see where you are coming from but, who would take the time to make a gaint wooden building to entertain a few internet surfers. Even though what idiot would walk around it with a corded microphone. I think its real, i'd expect somthing like that in the Guinness book of world records.
i think its staged because the tension on those wires is normally not very high at all they normally have so much slack that the odds of it knocking the tower down are smaller then they may seem.
i know that the minimum length they use on those cables is at least 20 feet and assuming the camera man is at most 8 feet away thats still 12 feet and you would probably notice it starting to cross into the structure.
and i thought nearly all of those were wired.
im saying this is probably a fake.

That guy was about to cry. If this it real it would have been on the news. BTW, I though cords was out of style and wireless was in when it comes to mics.
Originally posted by NuclearDraft Yeah I saw that earlier today on another forum, funny, yet you gotta feel sorry for the guy. That thing was pretty huge I really doubt it was staged, I don't why the hell someone would take the time to build that whole thing just to knock it all down.
Exactly, why the **** would somebody make such a large model tower, for at 30 sec video, that's only remotely funny?

It looks real to me. I mean that thing ACTUALLY would have a chance in the record book. Think how many janga boxes he had to buy for that!
The guy should have put some kind of barrier up. I still don't know why the news cast used cords when wireless is in.

Anyways I think it was real for the reasons already given above. Hilarious too.

The whole microphone purposefully being short isn't a good excuse to rule it as a fake. Yes, mics are usually given a lot of slack, but for field reporting like that, you don't want to have to haul around 20 feet of cable when the reporter is right next to you... even if so, that could have easily been 20 feet long if they had an external sound capturing deck a ways behind the actual camera man.
Some news stations go wireless, but that's typically those that can afford it... this appears to be a small-town news station with very little funding. Having wireless mics is definately not at the top of the list for news stations.
However, I do find it odd that he doesn't have a barrier of some kind around the structure. At least some velvet rope or something, to let people know not to get too close. That leads me to be suspicious of its authenticity, rather than the mic. However, no one would build such a thing for a short 30 second clip... not to mention, if this had been real, I don't think they'd only show this short clip of it. This is a lot like the footage of bigfoot or the loch ness monster. Just short enough to seem real. If this WERE real, I'd be sure to have gotten more of the reaction of the creator of the tower, not just audible gasps, and then cut to black quickly.
My guess? Most probable is that they were done with the tower and wanted to get rid of it, so they thought of this video.

Absolutewly fake. The guiness book of records would have no interest in that at all considering it is no where near the size of many other jenga block buildings by any stretch of the imagination:
The wire is coming from the opposite direction of the camera
There is a cut in between teh reporter being on the safe side to him being on the other side with the cord about to go through the tower.
That whole thing screams fake. First of all the guy "reporting" on it makes no sense. Either it would be some young man or woman for the local news or some college kid for some college news or such. Second the reaction from the "reporter" was unbelievably bad. Third the Guiness book of world records would never even check on something this minor like some have already said. Lastly it is the leaning tower of Piza? Come on people.
The tower's real. The reactions to it being knocked down are very obviously fake and the whole thing was staged. It's a Jenga tower after all, you only build one with the intent of knocking it down.

I'm thinking this is a hoax.Maybe they had it up for a while and where going to tear it down anyway.
If that is case, it's a graet idea!!

Forced reactions.
Seems completely fake to me.
Here are some other jenga towers

Also NMU seems to do these quite often and look for creative ways to demolish the buildings afterwards.
