EDIT: I have no preference between AMD/Nvidia, price point will be the decision maker.
Noticing some issues with current graphics cards performance, its been 4-5 years since i built the computer. Looking for any advice on which GPU will give me a nice performance boost yet not be the most expensive 1 week old GPU on the market. Price Point of 300$, but 250 would sure be nice.
Please, No Dual Card Setups. Crossfire has been the only regret i've had with this system.
Including other spec's just in case something stands out to you that might be an issue/bottleneck.
The Case has plenty of space for meaty cards.

I'd suggest investing a bit more and trying to afford Geforce 770.
Two Radon 6850's together are so powerful, that less expensive graphic cards wouldn't necessarily be that much of an upgrade, depending on game's performance on crossfire. Geforce GTX 770 would imho be first card that's good upgrade in any game.
If you want to have something between 250$ - 300$, then Radeon 280X or Geforce GTX 760. Radeon 280X is likely a bit faster, but Geforce 760 isn't much slower and it's likely cheaper.
Crossfire rarely yields the performance it should. I had two 7870's crossfired for awhile and the performance has not been as good as it should have. All the issues that crossfire brings up (micro shutters, ect.)
Upgrading from two 7870's crossfired to a geforce 780 ti has been a huge pain releaver. No more having to figure out crossfire settings to get a game to work, no more weird fps drops, ect.
exactly, most games dont seem to utilize the second card well, and thats assuming the game has crossfire/SLI support.
Here lately my MMO's have been micro stuttering, and new games coming out need to be on medium settings to not have low frames. It's time to get away from these dual cards !

I would upgrade the GPU first. If you have the budget, consider upgrading your CPU too.
Your motherboard should support a Core i5-3570K CPU. That would be the best possible processor you can get without replacing your motherboard and OS. It may result in ~8.5% performance gains in single-threaded games which are CPU-dependent. When overclocked, the i5-3570K is on-par with an overclocked i5-4670K. That means you would have the best possible CPU for gaming for now.
Check to see if your motherboard needs a BIOS update before changing the CPU.
Especially now. SSD's have been dropping in price by leaps and bounds. There have been recent blowout sales on Samsung 840 SSD's on both Newegg.com and Amazon.com, with even the 1TB SSD's dropping below $500.
Your system is already pretty good.

AMD and NV are both good choices. They are currently in a driver upgrade competition ATM.
Mantle recently announced 40 studios. It will be a big deal IMO.
i have an SSD ^^
