So i'm a sorcerer.

in Elder Scrolls Online

Does that mean I have to use a staff or can I use whatever weapon I want?

Also someone said that this game has certain softcaps is there a guide on that? 

I just bought the game. So was wondering.

    Try to look at it like this: There are no classes in this game, you are not a sorcerer, you just happen to have a skill tree that offers sorcerer type abilities.

    The only thing classes do in this game is offer you a new skill tree to choose from. It does not limit you in any way from creating the character you want.

    You can be a typical spell caster with light armor and a staff or you can wear plate armor with a two handed sword that can summon lightning from his a**.

    I use a restoration staff primary, bow secondary. Also wear heavy armor mostly and little lite amor with two pets and roll over regular mobs and boss mobs alike play your way so to speak :)

    Vr4 Sorc here no staffs, bow and dual wield , much fun.

    Soft caps have been tweaked a bit so its hard to get a 100% up to date answer. Staff tends to be great for PvE, you will get to use a second weapon at 15. Keep the first skill of an alternative weapon on your bar so it levels up, so if using staff and duel yield, keep first skill of bow and 1 handed + shield on your bar. That way nothing falls behind, you may want to have healing staff though, there are many ways you can do it.
