Rift: Binding of the Blood Update Now Live

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Rift has been updated with a rather large patch called "Binding of the Blood". The update brings four new souls, UI improvements and lots of new content for players to explore.

In addition, the team looks ahead at forthcoming updates:

These features are now live, but even more are coming in the days ahead, including:

  • More Tier 3 Raids: Akylios and Lord Greenscale were not the only Dragons whose history has been tampered with. Only the most skilled (and perhaps most foolhardy) of adventurers will attempt to bind Laethys and Maelforge. If proud heroes do not complete these bindings however, the impact on Telara will be dire!

  • Greenscale Warfront: Grab 14 of your closest friends and battle your way through a claustrophobic hedge maze with danger around every corner. Will you carry your flag to victory, or score points through control of the central platform? The choice is yours!

  • Defiance Hellbugs Return: The Hellbugs are returning in RIFT to celebrate the launch of Defiance Season 2. Keep an eye out for future announcements to learn all the details on this exciting event!

  • Unicorn Celebration: Celebrate with equine companions in a weeklong frenzy of everything unicorn. Arise to the aid of unicorn foals, and rejoice in the knowledge that you will have helped these noble steeds. Who knows: if you’re pure of heart, you may even have a chance to ride one!

  • Summerfest: Every adventurer needs a chance to relax in the sun, or perhaps battle it out with Swarmlord Khargroth. Summerfest returns in RIFT 2.7, along all the scavenger hunts, companions, and quests players remember from previous Summerfests!

New souls are gonna cost the same amount as an expansion. Not worth it, imo. A shame.

The expansion is going to be free, they got to charge for something

I am a very anti-Trion person for a number of reasons

This is not one of them.  No issues with charging for these souls.

Pfft, play at endgame for less than a week and you can afford the REX needed to buy the new souls without spending a penny of real money. FREE.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

    woot.

how much for 1 new soul?

hmm, pvp is gonna be even more mess now that every class has access to healing soul. warrior and rough who hit hard and can heal themselves. gonna be 2 class pvp i guess lol

but  in pve its gonna be helpful particularly to casual guild now they can change to any role they need based on boss fight.

but rift is all about hard core raiding so its ok

5k, or 4 REX. so just under 4000 gold.

So it comes down to one rex per soul - if you use all of them.

    ah ok thanks

rogue = stealth healing class lol

    the builds will be interesting

The real issue is that they are exploiting those very few loyal which also means naive players with promises of an expansion which is nowhere to be seen. If anything a 5 lvl jump indicates it's going to be small. Wonder how many assets will trion re-use this time. They have been putting out sloppy and weak rehashed content at an alarming rate. On the plus side Daglar can give a lecture at PAX next year on how to have a 2 year expansion with only 1 gear set design for three raid tiers and how to maximize monetizing whales via BiS gear and RNG pay boxes

I had planned to come back for this and subscribe again but when I saw that it was now possible to upgrade epic pvp gear to legendary by buying loot boxes containing the infinity shards needed to do so in the cash shop it came a little too close to being a pay to win game . I've uninstalled it now and my estimation of Trion has taken a nose dive .

I just hope they don't do the same thing with ArcheAge .

ive been a hardcore raider since release. but i just lost interest in the game when they rehashed t3 raids and gear. it has become a very boring game for me. wed we clear t3 and t2, then do nothing the rest of the week but farm. i havent logged back into the game now in 2 weeks, and to be honest, i dont miss it. spring is here and im enjoying the outdoors. screw trion.

Someone have to be lucky to get 1 infinity shards out that box, someone can pay all they want, will take them over $1000 to get 1 shard if lucky, I got shards, with out paying, I did only from pvp it's the faster way to get them. then from a lockbox.

Each box contains between 6-10 shards so I don't know where you get that 1000 dollars to get one shard . Theoretically you could do it by buying 55 of those boxes because it takes 550 shards to upgrade one piece of gear . Given its random though it probably would take more . I doubt many will buy items in this way but you can certainly boost the number of shards you get and to cut down the time it takes you to get the legendary gear . I know people in Rift that spend 100 dollars or more in the store in Rift in a month so whats that ? 30 additional lockboxes per month ? They will gear up a lot faster than someone who subscribes or who just grinds to get the gear . Its all subjective but to me thats pay to win .

The box you can get with pvp marks other then credits? someone willing to pay the way to get them I like see them do so, but they have alot work there hand, they have to get to rank 90 then get the gear to even put money on the box your talking about, sure there are some warlord gear from it, I get about 10 box a week, with my pvp marks only, so even if they try get gear from it, they spend alot more, so random what you get. But if people do conquest, they know they don't have to spend 1 penny to get from epic to leggy on my pvp gear, just there people out there lazy they do so.

Even if they didn't have pay credits for the box, let say, people still complain, how hard it is, still be pay to win, they find something new to complain about, I see it over everything part of chat and froums,. but still play rift.

At the rate of 1800 marks for one lockbox you probably would have to be be doing pvp all day everyday to get 10 in a week . Even then I'm not sure it would be possible or not .

I am a Rift player with a high level account and have not spend any money on this game..  I can tell you that affording these souls is very easy trough gameplay.   you can get pretty much anything trough playing the game.  its easy to make cash shop currency.
