I've played since early days of DF1 up to current times. I really do think something has changed at AV in the last couple months. Not sure what because I'm not sure what was messing everything up before. I'd guess that it was bad team dynamics at the company, which only recently changed with a breakthrough.
Frequent updates, patches that ACTUALLY follow through on promised updates, devs on forums, GMs in global chat, events.
It's a little bit too early to say that this will last. But I'm much more hopeful for the future of this game and company than at ANY point in the past 5+ years.
My advice to those of you waiting to come back/thinking about checking the game out: there's a patch that's promised 6~8 weeks in the future. It'll open up the class system to allow more character building freedom, and overhaul the loot. If AV can follow through on this monumental patch, it'd be a green light for all of you on the precipice of trying the game out to take the dive.
The thing I miss the most is the way controlling the character felt in DF compared to DF:UW. I still consider going back from time to time, but my personal problem with it is that I feel I've already experienced it. I mean, after all there isn't anything "new" compared to DF. If only AV had focused more on expanding the game when they created UW rather than changing it.
I know people will probably say, "Oh but there its so much different then DF!" ... No, not really. It still needs content. I know it's getting content, and maybe someday the amount will finally be enough to entice me back, but it's been loooooooong time coming. If I hadn't played DF, then UW would be badass though. I'll give it that.
there's still way too much grind before you can even be remotely useful in PVP
people are still mean and abusive just as they were in the original with most choosing to attack on sight and never bothering to even say hi (hell, even in Eve people at least try to be nice to you first before luring you to your death)
the game favors high ping and certain weapon setups (bow for the most part, especially warriors with bows) with other builds being a bit useless (wanna be a cloth wearing fire ball whirler? good luck!)
everyone can still be everything, which defeats the purpose of having the trinity because if you play long enough, you can unlock all classes.
there;s really little to do other than grind and grind some more. grind fishing, grind harvesting then kill everyone on sight or get killed and rage.
I don't see how this can be enjoyable anymore as games that initially started that way (ahem, Eve) have matured into something awesome and amazing by now
E.g. Eve has a million and one thing you can do if you're not into PVP and be great at those things
Wurm Online has improved to the point where it's the most advanced sandbox to date
Mortal Online has been consistently getting better and better with every patch where it's no longer a running joke in MMORPG community but a serious contended
Even Xsyon smarted up and introduced awesome features.
Darkfall Online? I just don't see it. It's the same game with a slightly easier way of getting into the same old crap.

Are you using Windows 8?
Yes im running Windows 8,however as of my last post in this thread it seems I can no longer access the Darkfall account management or customer service? which is most likely due to server overload.
There you go again blaming your crappy computer problems on some one else, other then your self. When its clear it is you computer.
You post your good experience with customer service, he posts his bad and all you can do is flame? Respectable indeed...
If they were the same maybe I would agree. Having your computer fail to run a game, is far from being the customer services fault. Esp since hes the only one having a problem loading the game.

What grind?

The game doesn't favor high ping... do you mean good ping as in sub 180? The game has better balance and AV is opening up the class system by allowing you to mix match all skills...

Everyone can be everything but not at the same time due to classes. When they remove classes as they are now, pures will still be useful and you still wont be able to be everything at the same time. The trinity doesn't mean you can't play any class when you want. With your reasoning, every game destorys the trinity with ats...

The game is focused on territory control. If you don't like territory control and politics you won't like DF UW. EvE "evolved" into more by allowing you to ignore the political meta game, but its still the focus of the game unless all you like doing IS grind

Originally posted by BarCrow I thought my copy of DF:UW on STEAM was gone too. Unlike FFXIV..which stays in the Library whether you are subbed or not...DF: UW disappears from the library and can't be found in the active or inactive list when you un-sub. You can find it listed under account info tho. Can't remember just where..I think under purchases. I'm at work so I can't confirm this to be sure. From there you can re-sub but I see no option to download it again to try it for free...as in the case of this brief return trial. Anyone have any clues how to bypass this?....It just keep telling my I have no payment options (I guess b/c I use paypal on STEAM and maybe Darkfall can't use that as a sub option..idk)
Contact their support, not steams. They will re activate your account, if you have your steam code, and send the email from the email address used on their site.
Thanks..I think I still have a little time to jump in and check out the tweaks/changes.

Darkfall is fun but the conquest system is shallow so I don't think they can market this as a Kingdom building game. Gather a bunch of ppl defend your stone or destroy opponent stone. Even non conquest game like WoW, GW2, ESO has better siege weapon than Darkfall. Aside from Ships and fixed spawn-able cannon, I don't see much else that requires any real logistics.

Its an empire building game despite the lack of siege weaponary. Logisitics aren't the only thing that is required to maintain a kingdom or create one. GW2 ESO and WoW don't require logistics at all really since you can't lose equipment.

They're also working on adding siege weaponry. And not just your typical ram for the door, and some ranged catapults / ballistae. Theyre also adding things like siege towers and ladders which can be moved into place for scaling the walls, getting your ranged dps up higher to take out wall defenders, etc.
No idea how long it will be until this stuff gets added but it's going to be fun when they do. Yet another suggestion of mine (and many others backing it) from awhile back that theyre finally implementing.
I recently subbed to check out how things were going. I don't know what it is, but something changed at AV, and they've turned 180 degrees the opposite direction.
Too little too late, at least for me.
WORST game developer I have come across in 15 years on online gaming. I will not be back for any AV products EVER.
I played the original Darkfall from EU release right up until it closed and DFUW from its release for about 3 months and I just refuse to take their BS any more. Terrible company. Game has insane potential but in order to unleash this potential AV needs to get their heads out of their collective asses which they have never done in the past. They are not capable of such evolution IMO.

Compromises have been made along the way; however we are committed to our original vision of a politically and economically driven sandbox PvP MMO, where risk dictates the reward, leading to meaningful massive battles. To realign with our vision, we have evolved our internal structure and workflow, and we have our development strategy to guide us back on track. We are also committed to our interaction and communication with the community since our players are an integral part of our vision."
Maybe this accounts for some of the improvements? Also, I can't find it, but I swear I remember a hub-bub about Aventurine cutting out one of their lead guys a few months back. Maybe I'm thinking of a different game. I quit DFO because I spent too much time playing. I'm teetering back and forth on DF:UW now that it seems to be moving in the right direction. If it is improving, good for Aventurine. They are building a niche game that people want and having a hell of a time doing it, but they have stuck to it so far.
