do certain races better suit certain classes? ex. Would a troll be a poor choice for a shaman? are there certain races that get bonuses for certain classes?
Im making a Thane troll and will create a Shaman when im off work and was curious what race would be most beneficial as a Shaman for buffing

It matters somewhat. Look at what stats are needed for the class you want and then see which race has the highest in it. It only matters a tiny bit, but it does matter. Also, as was mentioned about RvR, being short has its advantages and being a huge walking wall has its disadvantages.
Agreed, for the most part it comes down to aestetics, the look you're happiest with. Starting stats play a minor role, but it is indeed very minor. By time you hit level 50 and are decked out in some high end gear all your stats that matter are going to be plenty high either way. So if you just prefer the look of one race over another, the couple point difference in stats at the end isn't going to matter a huge amount imo.

As Kunou pointed out, go with the race you think will be the most fun to play with. You don't want to hit lvl 50 thinking its so damn booring to look at you'r character.
