GW2 is cheaper for long term play. Couldn't play it, the animations were just to lighty, in events my whole screen was filled with colours. sPVP is fun to play, dunno if you can level up there finnaly, else its useless for progression.
ESO is new, few bugs few exploiters. Would wait for the 1.1 patch before you buy it, level progression is actually fun. PVP is okay currently the character balance is totally out of mind, hope it gets better in 1.1 and you maybe can level up in pvp then aswell.
I really don't understand why developers do not inscrease the pvp exp in all games. It's awesome for people who want to do new chars and don't want to repeat the content.
Uhm, you did see that there is a slider to lower effects, right?
With ESO, few is not the right word but it will probably be fixed in 2 months or so, I think waiting a little to buy it is a good advice. One patch is never enough to get rid of exploiters, goldspammers and bots, they usually adapts for a while until finally they give up.
Originally posted by AngryBeaver They are both the same with different graphics and events. Just another copy of the games we have seen for the last 10 years.
Eh I wouldn't really agree. GW2 added a lot of features not otherwise seen in mmos, or at least packed together. The gameplay felt new and fresh, and as a result left me unable to go back to mmos with static stand still and cast or swing your sword style of doing things.
The no kill stealing was a big boon, so to was the open to all dynamic questing, and shared loot. It made a mmo game where you play with others actually feel like you're playing with them, instead of competing against them for kills/mobs/loot.
Many mmos changed quite a lot as a result, and those that don't seem to not succeed as well as they would've in the past. One of the biggest complaints I've heard from my friends who tried ESO is resource node stealing and kill stealing. These are archaic concepts that only serve to create animosity between players who should be playing together as part of a community rather than against each other.
Gw2 bored the crap out of me...you either pvp or....I dunno heart grind? I play and always have played tank classes and without some form of trinity my favorite part of these kinds of games...the dungeons were a zergy mess in gw2...So far the vet dungeons in eso are cool and I'm looking fwd to craglorn grp centric pve content
It's going to come down to which one your prefer better and no one can tell you that. As you can see from the above replies everyone is pitching their favourite game.
GW2 is half price until the 11th May and is a mature game (over a year old) so the majority of bugs and balance issues are ironed out. ESO is a new game with no endgame content and a lot of bugs, exploits and balance issues. Give it 6 months at least for everything to be ironed out.
A guy I know played Lineage 2 and then enjoyed Aion enough (might be a better choice for you?).
Not sure if GW2/ESO are exactly the type of games you are looking for.
ESO still has the "shiny new" factor going for it, and so the world feel fresh and people still have "things to do" (as in levelling their character to max, are still discovering lots of things for the first time, are still excited). It's a new game. Which is good for population too. It's also full of bugs.
My guess is that once the dust settle, people will start seeing the limitations of the game and will move on. The limitations on GW2 have been established for a while already (the game is mature), and so the flaws of the game will obviously be more apparent to people.
Don't believe the people saying "ESO > GW2 in every way", it makes no sense, they have no argument to support this and they simply haven't burned out on ESO yet (because it is new).
Not to say that GW2 is the better choice for you (though it would be for me personally, but I also have ESO).
GW2 is better value by a mile. ESO is still a buggy mess, give it at least a few months before you even consider buying it. GW2 is still half price until tommorow if you haven't got it already since you played it already, no sub. ESO is box + sub + extra, expensive and not worth the money. Also expect ESO to be F2P relatively soon, so forking over that money is hardly something worth recommending. But if GW2 isn't your thing, and you really need to spend some money right now, then you could give ESO a shot, or wait a bit and try WildStar or AA or ...

I'm trying to think of anything gw2 does better than ESO and instanced PvP and cost less are the only things I can think of. So yes, I guess technically "ESO>GW2 in every way" is false.
People are forgetting that these frequent content updates are nothing more than achievement grinding and zerg fests themselves. Theres no strategy involved, no skill. You mash one kill if you wish and get full credit. Its not content at all really. Just whack a mole.
Dungeons have been completely 100% ignored. They have not updated a dungeon or added a dungeon(aside from fractals) in a year. They said they have huge plans for updating and improving their dungeons because everything is a speed run with HP meatsacks(again limited mechanics for boss fights) at the end. They updated one dungeon and then got tied up with living story.
Living Story--- all content focus seems to be here aside from the recent feature patch. They pump as much development money into this as possible. The story can seem disjointed if you do not follow it, you get breadcrumb pieces of information every few weeks, and again its all achievement grinding and zerg.
There are bugs persisting since closed beta in 2012, ala Mag in CoF.
ESO:
Bug ridden, farmer ridden, bot ridden.
The mini dungeons are full of people camping the end little boss just to farm the blazes out of him.
Combat is slow and clunky
Imperial race is locked behind collectors edition
Issues playing with friends...if youre grouped sometimes you won't see your friends. Its all due to phasing and instances
First I wanna say I am posting this thread on bothe GW2 forum and ESO forum (hope the moderaters dont get mad :P)
As the title says: GW2 or ESO? Yes, how the h** should u know? But please gimme some pros and cons of each games (u guys who played both - or just gimme your opinion).
History: I have played almost every mmorpg there is. My favorites been Lineage 2 and Anarchy Online (yeah been in the business quite some time hehe).
I have also played GW2 before at the launch but my L2-addicition made my impression not so fair I guess.
Even though I dont PvP very much I want it to be possible and I want it to be very rewarding (like Lineage 2). What game makes that best?
Sooooo basicly, gimme your honest opinion and I will be gratefull, thanx folks!
My opinion here,
GW2 is worth every penny, and it doesnt have a subscription. You can play GW2 until Zenimax fix ESO. After ESO is fixed you can get ESO and subscribe to it and still play GW2 because it doesnt have a sub. Both good games but right now ESO isnt worth a monthly pay. I got ESO for $47 bucks before launch and played a few betas since the first beta until a week before my free month ended. Honestly your money will be better spent elsewhere until that game is fixed.
GW2 has been my favorite mmo since i played in beta and it still is but while im not an end game player in mmos i am taking a break from it because i want new content (new pve maps to quest and explore).
I really liked ESO but Zenimax's greed with their cash grab practices locking content behind paywalls in the form of collector edition and preorders and some bad mmo design decisions plus the never ending bugs that keep showing up since beta say a lot about Zenimax and not particularly good things.
So yeah, unless you want to throw your money away i suggest you try something else. Once they fix their game then it would be totally worth it because the few things they did well are actually pretty good like the melee combat, story telling, skill/weapon and class system.
I have both games but i wont be going back to ESO for a long while unless they get their crap together. As a gamer Im a consumer, not a brainless zombie that will pay for nothing.
Both my wife and I have returned to GW2 after the first month of ESO, although I didn't quite last the month. No way will the game survive as a monthly subscription. Way too many bots and gold selling and at the end of the day, although it is a stunning looking game, it gets boring very fast. It relies on questing only to level and If I hear ' the prophet' drone on one more time I'm gonna fill my ears with molten lead. When the sun came out, it was actually a relief to get out and mow the grass in my garden.
The game was not ready for release. They have done a cash grab. Maybe in six months or so the bugs, broken quests and bots may be fixed, but there are some glaringly bad screw ups in the games mechanics. My wife and I wanted to play together, something made extremely difficult and not possible if you are on different parts of the quest - problem is, the quests are often linked and go on forever. I felt like I was running errands for a monthly fee...
Gw2 is the shortest lived mmorpg I ever played 3 weeks. If you like things like boxing gloves in you fantasy rpg, with company sponsored gold buying gw2 is your game.
If you want a gritty visceral fantasy game with character development and progression, w/o the developer trying to sell you gold try ESO.
Guild Wars 2. I would try ESO 6 months from now after they finish optimizing for consoles. At that point, the bugs should be taken care of in order to ensure a smooth console release.
"As you read these words, a release is seven days or less away or has just happened within the last seven days those are now the only two states youll find the world of Tyria."...Guild Wars 2
There is a reason that Guild wars 2 has the highest rating on this site and so many more and has won so many prices and gotten the best rewievs of so many out there. It's a win dude just quit thinking about it and join us.

if you're into fast paced pvp: gw2
if you love asia grinders and sh*tty pvp: eso

The Enlightened take things Lightly
gw2 is 30$ without subscription. so why not just try it yourself.
They are on sale now till the 11. If the sales end, just wait for the next one, they keep havint those 50% sale anyway.
ESO is superior to gw2 in almost every way, except price.
The only real question is do you want to pay more to get more, or do you want to save some money and play a noticeably inferior product.
This :P
And you can get GW2 with 50% discount from their site tommorow till 11.5.
