i constantly hear things about trion and xl being in financial distress...seems to me they want to cash in quickly...and 150 is just unreasonably high despite what the fanboys will tell you how much of a value this is...this alpha/beta access buying has just gotten out of hand - especially for a free to play game...
I'd recommend you to wait a bit to see if the game will get any ground before you start spending money...
What are you talking about? Get what ground? The game launched over 2 years ago in Korea, is launching in Russia and will be starting beta in NA / EU shortly. I started playing 10 days ago and I spend a lot of time at one of the character starting points cause theres a good area to mine ore there. You know what I see while I'm mining ore? New toons being created constantly for almost 2 weeks straight. Nonstop as in at least 1 new character every 2-3 minutes. Thats just 1 of 4 starting areas, so if you think people aren't interested in this game, you are sorely mistaken. ArcheAge is a monster MMO and I don't think Trion realizes how much of a gold mine they got a hold of by getting the rights to this game.
gold mine? the game disappeared from the top list very quickly and is riddled by bots and cheats in russia (besides, russians seem to like any game where you can harrass and gank other people).
And even if the game did fantastic on takatuka island - that doesnt mean squat for the eu/us market. So before pushing money down Trion's throat, i'd rather wait how the reception will be in us/eu. Right now there is a limited amount of players on alpha where the systems work fine. Will they work fine with a massive amount of players? limited land space? hard core gameplay and guild requirement to have fun? potential pay 2 win features? all the bots entering the economy? Will all the streamers that cause the hype still be playing after release 6 months from now or is it just another fotm?
This and the fact that i keep hearing about financial distress at XL is not reassuring. Why did they price their packages that high if not to cash in quickly? Why for example have they sill not introduced the "new" races altough they already announced them 2 years ago? Same goes for all the other continents the game will eventually have (and were also announced 2 years ago).
And the last point - in a game where "building up your personal wealth" is one of the major elements, why would you want to invest all that time in the alpha where all gets deleted again anyway? Do you really want to shedd out 150 bucks just to get to know the game mechanics (which you can do by just watching vids)?
For 150 bucks you can right now buy 5 AAA games to play...and with archeage you will have to pay a monthly sub later on anyway (forget about playing this game for free, it wont work).
AA might be a fantastic game that will be played for a long time - if so, why the rush now? Just ask yourself, how many times in the past in the mmo space have you bought these kind of packages thinking this will be "the thing" and how many times did it pay out?
ps: your argument is pretty much nonsense. A) there are only a few thousand people on the alpha server they are all concentrated on one server C) in every mmo ever existed in the history of mmo's there have been a lot of new characters being created when the game released

I can tell you right now, there is no P2W. The only thing you are paying for in a subscription is to be able to own land. If you don't care about farming, gathering or crafting, than F2P will work just fine. Where you get P2W from is beyond me, but it doesn't even matter. As for BOTs in the game, guess what, they have an in-game mechanic specifically designed to let players deal with BOTs, aka murder them legally. Is AA hardcore and guild friendly only? To some degree yes, but to be honest, a lone wolf can have as much fun in this game as they choose. What do streamers have to do with hype? This game was launched years ago, videos and information are not new, so what hype are you talking about? It's simply being released in NA / EU after years of people begging for it.
Ok, you see, the fact you point out alpha costs $150 like every other idiot troll is enough for me to just ignore the rest of your post. The $150 consists of 3 months of subscription ( $45 ), about $70-80 cash shop money and a few in-game trinkets and title. So that brings alpha access down to about $35. Seriously man, you and all your narrow minded friends need to stop calling it $150 alpha access. By the way, AAA games don't cost $30, try more like $50-60 and thats for the basic edition. How much was ESO's cash grab pay wall CE? $80?
I'm not even arguing cause everything I've said is true. You're the one making shit up.
owning land and labour points.
sorry but is this some kind of joke? if youre not interested in farming, gathering or crafting free to play is fine? really?
why in gods name would anyone want to play the game without these features? all that is left than is an asian themepark with an outdated combat system, quest system and ui...lol aa without crafting and farming HAHAHAHA
afaik in the other regions labour points do only recover while online for free to play and at a lower rate.
I dont see anyone being interested in archeage and not wanting to farm and use all the sandbox features. Besides, i also doubt if you only gather you will be able to efficiently craft unless you have a guild supporting you.
I think aa has a lot of promis if they can find a fair free to play model and prevent bots from overrunning the game (and they should really get ridd of the hard stuns in pvp - thats just bad game design).
But still, i strongly think the alpha packages are way too expensive and that i would wait until the game is eventually released to see how much hype will be left then...

It might also explain why it's such a big deal to spend that much on a game for some, and others it's no big deal
I'm 54 years old, live alone with my wife. Kids out of college and on their own. Still work a job that pays really good. and have plenty of disposable income for entertainment that goes all to my only hobby of video games. $150 is not a lot of money for me and seeing as I get 3 months of subscription on top of all the other goodies I think it was a valuable offer, in fact for me it was too valuable I couldn't refuse it.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
$150 dollars is well worth it from what I can see.... The bundled perks and 3 months sub is a no brainer. At the same time I didn't take the offer but decided on the £40 option as I couldnt justify spending more than that this month...

Roll on beta.. Can't wait...
If it's alpha, then 3 months + the months we get to play for now with sub benefits. I guess that will make it closer to 5 months +

I think this is the key factor.
$150 is a lot or isn't a lot depending on One's own personal circumstances.
Sure one could say "it's enough to feed a family in a 3rd world country for a year!" and "it probably wouldn't pay for your dinner at the "Four Seasons" (expensive hotel in Boston) but one can only think about it in the context of the person's individual life.
If one has a great job and no expenses and only has one hobby then it "might" not be a big deal. It would be a big deal if you logged in and 5 minutes later you hated it. It would also be a "damn shame".
However, I would like to believe that "some" people know their tastes and their own lives enough to make these decisions. And if one is constantly disappointed then that should be a sign that one needs to change their thinking.
This Friday I'm taking a friend out to theater, dinner and dessert. It will cost waayyyyyy more than $150.00. But the experience is completely worth it.
Some people might find that too much money. And some might say "if you aren't dropping $600 + then what's the point?
So people, just spend your money responsibly and be mindful of how satisfied you are with your money usage and you should be good to go.
And, if someone buys a video game for $60 and never plays it but they drop $150 and play it all the time then which is the better usage of that money?
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Exactly ( and I was agreeing with you azz ) It's all about context. Someone saying it's never worth $150 obviously thinks $150 is a lot of money. For someone that goes and blows $150 on a dinner and never bats an eye at the price, 3 months of game time + other goodies is not going to feel it was money wasted. There is no universal value when it comes to entertainment.
If something is selling, it's not because the company found a bunch of suckers. It's because they priced it in such a way that those people saw the value in what they were buying...at least at the time they paid for it.
Damn I really wanted to play Archeage, especially Alpha (since I have played it in RU)... but 150$ is alot.
I would have bought it for this price if I hadn't played Closed Beta 2 of Black Desert in Korea the last 2 weeks. This upcoming game is just so good in every aspect that I will pass on Archeage - even though its a nice game - but maybe too late.
Currently playing: Archeage Waiting for: Black Desert

Have you seen ESO? people are still playing the broken parts...
Lol hasn't this game been in full release in asia? What their doing is a tranlation for the west right? If this is true how are they calling it an alpha? Its really not a game i'm interested in so i'm just wondering if its really in alpha state.
I cannot, in good conscience ever recommend that you spend $150 on a game when there are comparable products that are much, much cheaper.
However...I did drop the $150 and I'm really enjoying the game. I would say...only spend the $150 if you've done your research, the $150 is no great loss to you, and you're dissatisfied with every other MMORPG on the market.
You ARE NOT spending 150 for the game, in fact the game and the early alpha access (semantics for some) is not costing yu a penny. The list of things you get for the 150 far exceeds the 150 outlay. Just the sub and store credits are worth (at the reduced rate) around 115 dollars.75 for the credits and 40 for the sub (Rifts 3 month deal is 39.96). Then add it the dozen other things you get and look at what they will probably be on the store and it adds up.
Obviously if you want to be a complete free loader and never ever spend a penny on the game then no 150 bucks isnt going to work for you.
I am as 'frugal' as they come and I still think the 150 is a deal. Mostly because as far as MMOs around right now it offers the most of what I am looking for, which is basically everything. Could it use some work, sure, could it gets some tweaks to existing stuff? Sure. But compared to other games out there right now it has so much more to do it isnt even funny. I have played about 70 hours in 10 days and still learning and still scratching the service of things to do. I havent even PvPed yet, fished, run around in my boat, dove for treasure, explored more than the 'safe' zones on my home continent, and who knows what else. You can spend hours just farming and plating crops or running trade missions between cities, or you can spend hours PvPing, or spend hours questing, or spend hours exploring (although that is a zero sum game eventually), there is a ton of stuff to doHours on what ever lane you want to choose.
Once release hits and they open up the areas that are shut off that just expands it even more.
Either way if you dont buy it you wont be noticed because there are literally thousands of people playing this game I was in queue for the jury and I was in 1340 or so place. That just counts people online and who have done the quest to be eligible, and I am pretty sure it is continent specific as well. Not to mention anyone one with criminal behavior (which is probably half the players) is eligible either. So do some napkin math. It is shocking the amount of peopl eplaying this game. Yeah some didnt pay some are free, but I would say a vast majoirty have laid out the 150, and like I said somewhere else, I have not seen more than a couple complaints in chat about the game.

I bought the Alpha and would do it again any day. This is the best MMORPG game I have played in about seven years. It may not be for everyone, but if you are sick and tired of the same old themepark games, you'll want to check it out later, if not now.
As far as I'm concerned, I've already got my money's worth in entertainment out of it, and I'm just getting started. Having a blast!

Show me a comparable game on the market. There is no other MMORPG like this available right now. This is not just some craptastic themepark like all the other games out there, including ESO and Wildstar.

There is only one Server they said they would not add another Alpha Server and there were a limited number of Alpha slots.
Server shows high most of the time now when I go to log in, there are people everywhere you go.
Apparently the price was about right.
If they would have sold out in a day that would have meant it was too cheap they could have made more money.
If after this amount of time the server was showing low and not that many people in the game they would have made more money selling it cheaper.

Show me a comparable game on the market. There is no other MMORPG like this available right now. This is not just some craptastic themepark like all the other games out there, including ESO and Wildstar.
pretty sure it's worth it, waited for this game like forever but now I can't afford it.
Well I blame the economy...ha ha
