You know it's going to be a good review when you start out with a statement that totally sidetracks the whole discussion. Next time try " I hate anyone that is xxx color, they are all useless" and then see how that review goes.
We old fart remember having to pay $3.95 a hour. $15 a month seems like a bargain compared to racking up $1,000 a month on gaming and internet addiction in 1992.

47yr old and don't remember when the net came out brother? Been on PC since SNES days, been gaming since Atari days and not casually...If I put a number on it i'm prolly sitting at 10-16hrs gaming every day I love my job.
Seriously dude give up. You weren't even formed when it was pre-internet BBS. I have 14 years on you and was a kid back then. You may have been gaming a long time sure but get your facts straight. And adding more credentials makes your point more worthless. I could list a ton of credentials but no one really cares. However, as I said again, you were not even conceived pre-internet, WWW.That I know for a fact. Change your post title and maybe you'll get better responses.
People on this site are hilarious... Not that I agree with the guy, I haven't tried the game it has no appeal to me. Yet do people not understand a turn of phrase around here?
For anyone who doesn't get it, EQ was before what we know as the net today...
May want to check some dates there, e.g Internet explorer itself was introduced into windows in 1995, Everquest in 1999.
That aside the issue was the OP's elitist attitude and flawed 'review' if he had just said, played first 10 levels, didn't enjoy it, then that would be cool, instead he was ranting about some I am Hardcore rubbish.

My creditials: If its an MMO i've probably played it, in some cases for years. I grew up on Everquest, I ate Planetside for breakfast, and crapped out many games that have lost my interest. I believe games are suppose to make you want to play, to advance your character, to get the lwwt loots. I believe pvp in todays MMO scene is a requirement, and shouldn't be an after thought.
My likes: End-game, the journey to end game, character progression, PVP.
My dislikes: Easy watered down themeparks that cater to the kids
Wildstar Review- First impressions graphics are different from what I normally play, game play is EXACTLY the same as every other MMO out there. They have the ground markets which allows you to dodge enemy hits, but if you really think about this....Nearly every MMO i've played has ground markers, but they are invisible making the game more difficult. Wildstar shows the ground markers actually making their game more easy then it already way in the MMO market. I remember the days of Everquest, if you stood in front of a dragon you'd normally get fried unless you were the tank. If you stood behind the dragon you wouldn't get hit by cones....Same concept as wildstars combat system, if an enemy has cone attack dodge it or stay behind it and guess what no damage....Whats easier, whats more visually pleasing, whats more realistic this is gonna be the question that haunts Wildstar. In an industry where gaming is already to easy, people looked to Wildstar for difficult and different gaming....Wildstar fails horribly in the eyes of this hardcore gamer. Purchase Wildstar no thanks I wouldn't even play it if it was F2P.
Wildstar beta access: Played for a good solid gaming session 8-10hrs....Won't be back
Let me tell you something about WS's PvE, specifically raids. There are mini bosses and trash mobs in there which are harder than many main bosses in WoW or TOR. Now, i can't get into details since this section is still under heavy NDA but whoever thinks that the telegraph system will make raiding or even 5man veteran dungeons easy is in for a very nasty surprise.
When the game goes like i'm gona have fun watching some "pro's" who claim that markers simplify things wiping time after time on the first veteran dungeon boss.
So you say it's under NDA but then BREAK said NDA by giving an opinion on it?
Ah, such an indepth view and totally not filled with bias or anything of that sort! I mean obviously this man has played the game to 50 (or even 15 or so) and can say combat is so easy in this game cause obviously red telegraphs makes stuff simple!
Mind posting your gameplay to prove how simple the combat is compared to other games, particularly at lower levels you explored where its teaching you? I really want to see a good comparison of how the games vastly easier then those other games that, apparently much to my unknowing, all had aiming and not just targetted combat the entire time for stuff. God I feel like a dumbass being in a top end raiding guild in WOTLK and not knowing all my abilities were aimed! I'm almost certain if I was topping meters then through ulduar, I would of likely easily went from being one of the top dps in the world to just outclassing everyone by a huge amount over 1st place!

First of all I just wanne clear out a thing that you mention the game being exactly same as any other MMO
YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT, there are only A HANDFULL of games out atm where you dont need to target MOBS, WILDSTAR being one of them this is already a HUGE MAJOR diff between those handfull games and other MMORPG's that are exactly the same as you mention ....
I close my case, your review sux !!!
There are actually A LOT of MMOs out there that do not require you to target a mob.

Dear OP, stating you've been playing games for a long time does not make you a reviewer, having a good review does.
In EQ you COULD NOT dodge the dragon's breath, because he would move and target you with it while he used it, in this game you are able to dodge a lot more abilities. Also, as someone who has played EQ quite a lot, there are very very very few attacks in the game you could actually dodge! Most follow you, some even through walls. I think this really invalidates your entire post, which honestly was not very accurate and it really reflects upon you poorly as a reviewer.

care to count them for the sake of the conversation?

Please lets list a few.
TERA, ESO, The Secret World, Age of Conan...
And that's all I can think of
SWG was turned that way, TESO, TERA, TSW, AOC, all FPshooter MMO's IE FE, PS, PS2 and all the indie's like them, Defiance, not sure about dcuo I kinda forget if you could just wildly swing/use abilities..Dark fall and the like.. that's just off the top of my head and well known games..

you can judge how good a game is gonna be within first few hours of playing it. If the game doesn't keep you playing, toss is away.
I think you are wrong. There is a learning curve to Wildstar. Around level 20 you actually start true character development. Until then you are just learning the mechanics. The AMP system alone takes a bit to fine tune.
So how many level 50 toons do you have currently in Wildstar? None you say? How can you judge a game without experiencing end game. Yes there are telegraphs in PvE but have you seen how complexed they are.
You say you grew up on EQ.. Seriously? Most EQ fights were almost straight Tank and Spank with almost no mechanics at all. From a Cleric Healer aspect, the raiding was.. Complete Heal.. 1..2..3..4.. Complete Heal..1..2..3..4..Complete Heal..1..2..3..4..Complete Heal. That was so easy to the point of boring.
Yes you are right.. You stand if front you die.. You stand behind your safe.. How boring is that.
Wildstar your not safe anywhere. You have to constantly move and still do your job. You have to Aim.. EVERYTHING.. not just click on a name then Heal or DPS..
Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the game..

Yeah, I would say they're more FPS MMOs. While I'm not sure how Wildstar would fit into them, they are all a little bit different from wildstar in some way, though I'd say it's most similar to TERA or TSW / AOC. Still I don't think that's 'a lot' of games.

I think it really boils down to what you consider MMO's, there really are all kinds of them, as well as many obscure titles. As far as well known titles go, there aren't a whole lot of them in comparison to how many well known that are not free targeting. But as far as indie and obscure titles go, there's too many to count or list off lol. I also forgot gws2 in my list above and edited in Dark Fall and games like it.
I also meant to respond to the guy after you who said list some my bad lol.

I do love how he thinks being a 33 year old gamer means he automatically has some sort of gaming cred. I've been playing video games since the late 1970's, I guess that means my gaming cred trumps his and anyone else younger than me.

Point to me where he said his view of the game is how all people should see it?
You just implied that cause his view is counter to yours. I don't like wildstar it was very boring. What I just said in no way tells others how they should view the game.
No I understand your passive aggressive post just fine.
The first MMO you loved will always be the best. You will never get that feeling back stop trying.
Won't ever have a lvl 50 in wildstar as the game is a joke right now, and until something dramic changes in it...its not worth my time. The everquest raiding experience was a bit more then sit behind to be safe, matter 0 fact most MMO's today have made copies of EQ's raiding. Wildstar is the same thing as other MMO's with easy mode turned on in the form of ground markers.
I've been a hard core fan of EQ since I started playing it in March of 99'. I played for almost 7 years without a break. I played up through GoD expension. The game was as solid as they come but the fights were simple.
The end game of Wildstar is slated to be some of the toughest progression to date. I cant say it for certain because I havent played to 50. The conent Ive seen so far has been a lot of fun and challenging.
Its funny. Early on when I first played WS, I had the same attitude that you do. With all the hype I was reading, I figured there had to be more. So, I kept playing and that changed.. It became so much fun to play.
You can say you will never play it, but truth is even if you find out you were wrong no one will know.. Here have a Drink of the cool aid.. Its good.
Just because I'm a gamer doesn't mean I drive a Honda.

Saio3 is right, and he knows i am not a fan of WS, but just because i do not like the game does not mean i do not want others to enjoy it.
I have spent almost 35+ hours now trying to get interested in WS, i am sorry but 8 hours is a paltry amount of time to really honestly judge an MMO.
Anywho, best of luck finding a throw back MMO, they just really do not exist anymore no matter who claims they have that special sauce.
Also, umm i am older and i do not even think that remotely qualifies me as someone who "knows" gaming.

There, I fixed that for you.
Even funnier, I've tried eve like 3 times in different updates and couldn't pass past that tutorial, Ppl say noob zone on WS is boring? play eve tutorial and die...
See? what is fun for you might be boring dull and full of the worst players the gaming world has (maybe after lol).
I don't like mobas, But I don't go to their forums to say X game is crap, just because I don't like it It doesn't mean some other might like it.
I wouldn't bother responding to the OP. It's pretty obvious he's an EQ fan and thinks all MMO's not named EQ are crap and nothing will ever be as awesome as EQ.

I do love how he thinks being a 33 year old gamer means he automatically has some sort of gaming cred. I've been playing video games since the late 1970's, I guess that means my gaming cred trumps his and anyone else younger than me.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
But it's ok to go on the forums and shout to the heavens how great you think a game is?
This isn't the Wildstar forums. This is a wildstar sub forum on a site about MMOs. If you don't like the negative posts then stick to the posts that talk about how great the game is. The forums can become one huge circle jerk of people agreeing with each other.
The first MMO you loved will always be the best. You will never get that feeling back stop trying.
+1
All Time Favorites: EQ1, WoW, EvE, GW1
Playing Now: WoW, ESO, GW2
Where did you get that I don't like negative posts?
As I always say, everybody and their moms are entitled to their opinion, THEIR opinion.
What I don't find correct is that people want their own opinion to be the absolut and only truth.
Do you understand me or need further explanation?
Point to me where he said his view of the game is how all people should see it?
You just implied that cause his view is counter to yours. I don't like wildstar it was very boring. What I just said in no way tells others how they should view the game.
No I understand your passive aggressive post just fine.
The first MMO you loved will always be the best. You will never get that feeling back stop trying.
Its good.
