I agree with all those points but I would only need one to bring me back to Rift. Better story telling. Rift has one of the most horrendous questing hub designs. Questing is my preferred leveling method and it its not enjoyable then the game is dead to me. Questing in Rift is a complete nonsensical filler to get levels.
When mmo devs start looking at questing as an important part of the game (not a filler for levels) then the PvE mmos will flourish again. They all feel the same boring grindy crap because they all keep the same boring and badly designed questing hub system.
There already is large scale PvP in Rift. And it's rather awful. One of the 2 maps is utter shite, and thanks to Rifts poor optimization both drop your fps below 20 during clashes with 100+ Players, even on highend rigs. Which happens once during the Steppes CQ, after that the losing sides leave and come back later for the 5 min timer in the end.
I am surprised nobody has mentioned: alternative starting area, and 1 or 2 new callings.
There's really no reason in rift to ever have more than 4 characters, add 1 or 2 new callings and it would give lots of ppl a reason to retry the game.
And freemarch is cool and all but if I have to go thru it again...

Originally posted by Gorwe So, you disagree with four points. I do as well.
But, what about the Fifth? The one you left out(story)?
TSW, Swtor, FF (both mmos) and some of wow are good examples of well delivered story, a world you actually get interested in, thats the key you have to make people want to delve into your stories and in this Rift fails.
The challenge comes not in writing good stories but in its delivery, the quest box text delivery system is used because it is efficient and the majority of gamers these days prefer efficient delivery to immersion.
Rift however has another fundamental problem, in that I simply dont care about the world, the lore of the setting its self is simply not engaging, I read the story text and beyond the starting zones and Gloamwood it is simply not a very interesting world.
In order to deliver a better story they have to make you want to find that story.
1) Sea Travel - That could be very cool. At least have a dungeon or raid set on the high seas!
2) Sandbox - Eh, I have never really been interested in playing with a dollhouse in my MMOs. I don't know how this could be easily implemented in a way that would be more interesting than, "Look at how pretty my dollhouse is!"
3) Storytelling - Cutscenes ruin the flow of my gaming. I want to go out and quest, not sit back for two minutes watching some animation. It's the one thing I really hated in SWTOR.
4) Flight - While I can see some air events or floating castles, I do NOT EVER want flying mounts. That would make RIFT too much like World of PandaCraft.
5) PvP - I hate PvP. As long as it's not required for me to PvE, you PvPers go do whatever you want.
1) You're right. Gimme a boat. I want a steam boat.
2) I'm already scared of what other players will do with this freedom.
3) Yes, you're right. In WoW, Vash'jir was one of my favourite partially due to it's magnificent storytelling. The story of RIFT itself isn't bad at all but I'd like them to involve more... action in their storytelling.
4) I'm in absolutely no rush to take flight. It could be tried in the Plane of Air but I'm scared of the effect it would have if it was introduced to Telara.
5) I like PvP, yes. Sometimes it's a bit tough for me to enjoy it when it I get stomped in a few seconds. I could enjoy more of their PvP content if they fix that little problem.
