Aventurine has announced a fundamental shift away from specific Darkfall: Unholy Wars player character roles with the announcement of "custom roles". According to the developer post, these custom roles will allow players to create the character they want to play that can fall into traditional roles or, for the more esoteric minded, into non-traditional roles.
Today, as promised, we would like to present to you our design for the custom roles mechanic that we are adding to Darkfall: Unholy Wars.
As we’re sure you’re all aware, this system represents a core change to the mechanics of Unholy Wars, and as such, is a system that, going forward, we will monitor very closely, and will make changes wherever and whenever required.
The details presented here, then, should be considered the first, and very important, step in creating the free and open system that fulfils our sand-box vision for Unholy Wars. This is not the end-point of the system, it is the beginning. And your feedback will be vital in the evolution and continued development of the system.
With the pre-amble out of the way, let’s move on to the details, of what we could call “v1.0”, of the system.
Read more about how custom roles will function in game on the Darkfall: Unholy Wars site.

Crosshair is a circle, it starts out large and the arrow can go anywhere within that circle. The circle gets smaller the longer you hold it. It's not actually "wobble" but a mechanic put in that was intended to make aiming more ... realistic? People were asking for a real wobble mechanic in DFO, but I guess it was too difficult to work in so they went for this instead. Glad it's leaving.
Upcoming patch. Are you referring to DF2015?

Would you like to place a bet about whether or not this patch comes out in the next say 2 months?
Great looking patch but I still have 2 deal-breakers.
1. Nightly 30-60 minutes maintenance downtime right in the middle of my primetime.
2. That we aussies are not allowed to play on the Asian server with 100-150 ping but must play on the US server with 280-320 ping. For a full loot pvp game that is a huge disadvantage.
And for the record, I would pay a sub to play on the Asian server and have that ping. (The Asian server is ftp for Japanese and south Korean players only)
Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
Nah, when you were running the circle just got bigger. It had nothing to do with actual "wobble". When the circle was bigger (when running or when you first started drawing/casting) there was complete randomness where the arrow/spell would fly within that circle.
That's why it's being removed, because it was random and nothing to do with real wobble that skill could counter.
This will be a game-changing patch, and certainly for the better. They are actively listening to player feedback, and this new combat role system will allow for a lot more player freedom than the old class-restricted system.
Harvesting and crafting revamp patch is next week, this combat patch is coming after that. Going by Aventurine's current rapid patching rate, I'd estimate about 3-4 weeks following next week's patch.
It's like GW2's former rapid update schedule pretty much, only without the temporarily lacklustre content, and permanent game additions instead.
Until they bring real dwarfs back then nothing they do can fix the game
If you know someone who has an account then they should have some buddy keys so you can try it out..

To everyone bringing DF2012/Arena jokes and whatnot up. I dont know what happend to AV but they took a 180° degree in how they run there company.
Dev's are allowed to talk now and there is plenty of communication all day. This role patch is just one important steping stone on the way to make this game perfect. AV has already added lots of quality patches to this game since december and most important, in time.
Some of the major changes already ingame is the territory system that promotes guilds that create a connected territory. Other additions are a better GUI and content/fluff items.
Really looking forward to this patch, next week a economy patch will added which adresses harvesting.
F2P ? No way :> After few good patches dfo have more and more ppl, a lot pvp, its even hard to do pve without pvp. I resubet 1 month ago and it was worth it.
btw after dfo:uw beta I hated av so much its hard to imagine, but for now they are doing good.
Create the Character YOU want... to do the activity YOU don't want to do!
The character creation system has never been the problem. The problem is that the only 'career' is organised team ganking.
YOU want to explore solo????!!!!! YOU will suffer!!!!
I couldn't believe it when they removed the 100 or so small islands you could hide on, explore, and do your own thing. When I looked at the new map in-game, I nearly coughed my coffee up all over the keyboard.
Actually... its pretty possible to play as a solo player, I do it myself for the last year. Its a matter of politics, with the Territory control patch some regions are way more solo friendly now. And there still exist some nice, hidden/unpopulated places you can live where you will see only another solo players around.
If you look at the map as it is now, every single area is between 2 player cities / towns at the periphery and even more inland. This means that you can easily be attacked from at least 2 directions at any time - and nobody has eyes at the back of their head! In DFUW, creeping up or zerg rushing with loads of people is pretty standard, so if you are discovered, you know you are 95% likely to get killed and fully looted.
Every part of the map is a potential route for hostile players to travel from A to B.
What this means is that solo players are 'road kill' for team gankers or committed griefers. Your chances of 'getting the loot and surviving' are now only about 50-75% per expedition - which is rubbish if you are truly soloing because, as a solo player, every piece of kit is far more precious to you.
In contrast, you used to be able to plan what island you were going to travel to, and plan the safest journey to get there. If you did this, there was a 98% chance of success.
There is an enormous difference between 25-50% chance of getting ganked and looted per expedition, and a 2% chance of getting ganked and looted per expedition.
The map changes totally changed the nature of the game - the removal of the 100 isolated islands on the periphery limits your options as a player massively.
