Origins Of Malu: KickStarter Begins to Bring New Team Members On Board

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Origins of Malu team is looking to expand in order to get the game into the hands of players as soon as possible. In order to do so, Burning Dog Media needs to hire developers and programmers. To do so, a new KickStarter program has launched to raise $60,000 Canadian Dollars.

This our primary focus. Many of our systems are close to initial completion but we just don't currently have the manpower to get them to a launch ready state within a reasonable timeline. Securing experienced developers will be a huge step towards an efficient release.

  • Animators

  • Modellers

Additional funds raised beyond the target goal will go towards the creation of more great animations and assets for the world!

Check out the Origins of Malu KickStarter page.

kinda strange bought this over a year ago then overnight it vanishes, nothing for a year then all of a sudden its back with a new kickstarter?

They claim they refunded the original kickstarter.

I know they did not refund my purchase.

    Color me skeptical at best.

Ya I kick started as well a year ago. Then the game kind of vanished. No new info on alpha tests ect. No refund. Would be nice to get an email from them with updates so I know they are still alive and well

Well, this is sorta awkward...posting is up very quickly, then BAM! Folks claiming they got ripped off on the brief KS that was up for a few days but still got charged and never refunded? Thou OOM did still have updates, news, media etc etc afterwards...

Let's get a quick right from the camels mouth so to speak on how KS runs ( folks that say the type of comments above show true colors on that they do NOT support/use KS)

    When is my card charged?

If the project you’re backing is successfully funded, your card will be charged when the project reaches its funding deadline. If the project does not reach its funding goal, your card is never charged.

If you've backed a project that is still live and are seeing a charge on your bank statement, what you are likely seeing is a temporary authorization of funds. The time it takes for an authorization to clear varies on the bank, but typically takes 1 - 3 days. You will not be charged until the project you backed has ended successfully.

Now isn't that weird...can we now move on to talking about the game as that's what I thought this was for.

YES!   Been following this game for a year and a half, played the Alpha that they called "Beta" and loved the incredibly potential the game had at the phase.   After following the game even more after that Alpha and seeing the new combat upgrades, I CAN NOT wait.  Headed over to help fund right now :)

Game got great potential, As said above Kickstarter doesnt bill you until the project is successful and funded, so no money should have been taken from anyone. By refunded they mean that by them cancelling the ks then you would not get a bill.

These people have been working for years out of thier own pockets with no funding, and they need our help, a lot of sleepless nights has gone by for them working long hours after work to make this game for you all.

The concept of the game is great, holding my thumbs that all goes well.

Yeahh i thought this vanished as well..

Did try to play the beta they had but nothing worked, including the download lol so i gave up in the end.. not sure if i would back this project but wish them luck they had some good ideas.

  • psiicpsiic Member RarePosts: 1,642

The original kickstarter successfully funded and charged.

Even OOM admits they got paid, however they claim they refunded the kickstarter which is a total and complete lie.

These guys are crooks and this is just another cash grab.

My account page with them still shows as active paid with my code applied.

However to access the game they are asking me to pay them again.

Sorry I am sure some of you will try and defend them, but they are liars and criminals and people should stay away.

I played the Beta they had up a year or so ago and it was more like an Alpha stage. It reminded me of Anarchy Online type world and design but I do remember being excited about the features it was suppose to offer.   I love the idea of a small Indie team  doing this and want to support them so I am backing it.

If it got cancelled it shouldnt have charged any money. If so Id blame that on KS. Cant defend them if they took money trough donations but still its donations so you cant be 100% sure to get something back. Thats why I dont donate.

It vanished? when? i have recieved newsletter every month since the kickstarter began and i even got the email where they explained that the development of the game was delayed because of  failed kickstarter. the email also explained that they are still developing the game in a "volunteer mode" as they went quite far into project to just let it go. so why did you guys think it was gone?

Hey, The KS campain was never funded, and it was cancelled, if the money was taken from your account then send a messange to ks support, cus if you would take you time and read up on the rules of kickstarter it doesnt work the way you think it does.

If memory servers, and it is foggy at best, didn't OOM shutdown their kickstarter because they found financial backing from investors? I also recall acquiring a beta key from alienwear to test this game and could not apply it on their website. I would continue to get a browser error "page not found". I gave up after a couple futile attempts and moved on and forgot. And then nothing... the game just vanished for however long (assumed it just died) only to reappear today. Its super sketchy and I wouldn't throw a penny at these guys.
  • SimonSaysBakSimonSaysBak Member CommonPosts: 15
Oh well, it doesnt matter in the end, they are great devs, with ks funding they can get more people to finish the game at last.

Guys, please read this before continuing -

Origins of Malu is a volunteer team, nobody has been paid a dime and they work VERY hard to get what they have thus far. People on here that are hammering them, calling them scammers, etc etc. have NO idea what they're talking about. Here's a link to the original Kickstarter - (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/burningdog/epically-large-battles-sandbox-baked-goodness) As you can see, the Kickstarter was cancelled, which in turn means NO MONEY was ever taken from any account.

If you DID have money taken from your account (which to me, is incredibly unlikely) you should contact Kickstarter directly for a refund, as Burning Dog does NOT have any cash to even give out for refunds to something they never even received in the first place.

    Cheers.

I played the beta and they've always had updates.  Maybe they just didn't send out email blasts like other companies.

Canadian Dollars? You don't say......surely 3-4 Americans can offer that.

They have not pocketed a single dime from the community.   Why do people insist of spreading lies?   That is just ignorance at best.   If you don't want to support the game, then don't.   But to be an ignorant troll who spreads filth and lies is just sickening to any respectable human being.

There was a time when they were asking for support but all those efforts were cancelled due to finding some investors.   Now they are looking for 60k Canadian Dollars to make this a reality.   This isn't McQuaid asking for 800k with absolutly nothing but an idea on paper.   This is guys who have actually sacrificed, not pocketed advances or any community money to-date looking for some final cash to polish this game up and get it ready to push through the doors.

That being said, people who are finding out about this game still, check it out, watch some videos, post on the forums (there are some of us that still check in from time to time and you will be hard pressed to find a better development team in terms of communication, chances are Dunham (Lead Dev) will answer any questions you post on the forums....and consider pledging even a small amount :)
