[Column] ArcheAge: Cars and Gliders and Boats, Oh My

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Here we are yet again, another day, another column, another post to discuss ArcheAge! My last column was mostly to discuss the news on Founder's Packs and a few other in-game experiences. Since then we've had one new blog post from Trion Worlds that discusses, “Traversing the World”. Let's leap into discussing that first and see where it goes.

Read more of Jeffrey Lerman's ArcheAge: Cars and Gliders and Boats, Oh My.

If you liked SWG and EQ2, you will certainly like this game.

I have been following this game and must admit it has impressive feature list. Open world housing, farms and ships alone are enogb to get me excited. My question is though does the world have an immersive feel to it. GW2 taught me that a list of game features alone is not enough. Is there good lore? Are quests and dungeons fun. Is the world a place you are excited to explore, or is it just a place to grind out levels. Thanks!

You know - I think there's a lot of ways to play this game. There are no voice-overs for the quests, only the cut scenes. So I just quested like I did in WoW. However, quests are just one thing that I honestly barely payed attention to in this game. Between farming, fishing, PvP, and a dozen other things - questing was just something I did on the side. I'm 50 in my first set of skills and started moving onto others. The world is very massive and open, and a blast to play. The questing isn't something like in ESO or other quest driven games.

Well put, this game has a way of sucking you in and not letting go.  If you get bored of one aspect, there are dozens of other things to do.  The only thing I would like to see changed is the toxic community, right now it is pretty bleak.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

    Hope release is close.
Cant wait to finaly play a solid sandbox again !

I have been playing for several weeks and I must say this game comes the closest of any game to giving me the feelings I had while playing Star Wars Galaxies.  As mentioned above, there are just so many kinds of things to do that questing almost becomes what you do when you just want to take a break from all the sandbox activities in the game.  It's a fantastic game and I am happy to have paid the money to get into alpha.  It was worth every cent.

And to clarify for everyone, this game is NOT just a sandbox.  It is really like SWG in that it is a SandPark with sandbox and themepark elements mixed in a way that is just amazing!

I have been playing for about 2 weeks now and am addicted to it.  I am first off not a huge pvp person and was a bit cautious but now that I am playing I find you can actually live and play and avoid pvp all together if you chose to you just have to be smart in your decisions such as planning out a route to where you are taking a trade pak run perhaps or where you are going to farm etc.

But I admit over seas is thrilling as well I go out there due to some pearl diving I do as well as some fishing and I  must admit t he danger makes it even more fun.

Have done some pvp though only to defend myself and it has been fun as well.  So all in all this game offers me alot of things to do when I want to do them and at the pace I want to do them.  *thumbs up* XLGames And Trion.

Sounds a lot like the old ultima online! Which is what I have been looking for since I stopped playing UO.

@Hatefull: its pretty funny the person with a name like that wants to change the toxic community in AA. It speaks volumes as to the current state of it. I agree though. I'm only lvl 25 ATM but the community is pretty poor. All the more reason to turn off faction chat and find a solid guild!

Between a lot of the forum posts, some videos (thanks Scion Storm & RipperX), and this article, I'm sold!!

Signing up for founders pack tonight.

I just hope that I have the time needed to really get the most out of the game.

Really don't like the gfx and art style.

I might give it a try once it's released (it will be F2P after all), but I've watched quite a few game play vids so far, and I very much doubt that it's the game for me.

The temptation to buy into the alpha is hella strong!

even with the silly anachronistic stuff i am really looking forward to the game.  if the silly anachronistic stuff (like cars) were taken out, or at least there was one server without them. then i would literally be drooling in anticipation.

if its a good game... which it looks like it is... i will live with the parts i dont like :)

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Unfortunately, pvp oriented games tend to draw in the more toxic player crowds.

I really want to get my hands on this one, I will wait just a little bit and buy a Founders Silver Pack and play Beta.

I better not fork up 150 bucks for Alpha access and the bonuses that comes with Archeum, or else my wife would feed me to the hounds :s

Cars, gliders, boats and A LOT OF BOTS AND HACKS, oh my.

Look at other language versions of AA before you start worshiping it.

This game has small details that you can over look but they make the world. You can turn on/off lights and candles, close/open windows of your house, import your own design on to your cloths, ships and house, you can steal other people's stuff if they do not protect them, and there are many more stuff you can do that i do not have the knowledge of at the moment.

I wonder if you have played the game in NA . I have not seen any hacs or bots though it is an Alpha . The game is a lot of fun . You should try it before you berate others for saying how excited they are for it.

Very excited for this game - with the debacle around ESO, the letdown of WoWStar, and the WTH of H1DayZ1, I'm really hoping ArcheAge delivers.

If you buy the Founder's pack today for how long you will be able to play until Alpha is Over?
