Patron status looks P2W as fuck for F2P crafters like myself how I am supposed to compete against people with land with farms who are able to farm large quantity of farm animals and make huge profits.
Then they sell Patron status in AH and make even more profits. How are the non-patron suppose to compete while we get small gains from quests and get scraps. The richest players will be patron's 100% of the time.
Labor points regen rates from patron and f2p players will only widen the gap over time cause the economy to be broken.
start paying for a service instead of complaining how unfair it is for freeloaders?
I dont understand why ppl think they deserve everything for playing FREE. Its not fair. Its p2w..blah blah.
kids
Wait a minute. The payment model is called Free To Play and they allow the game to be played for free. So how are they then "freeloaders"? That makes no sense at all/

You realize that this thread is not about whether free-to-play games are free or not, right? it's about whether a player who's willing to pay should have an advantage over a player who's paid nothing. Or, you know, "freeloaded" in that game. Does that make sense now?
Free to play players should be happy to play free <------> play free. Dont expect to have acces to all perks a paying subscriber has tough. As it should be as we support the game and you just freeload taking bandwith and in no way or shape support the game or its future contend / development.
Pay to win for me is buying a item locked away in the cashshop that is in no way or shape to be found ingame. Weapons or gear that has the best stats to the point of being OP, that for me is pay to win.
Farms and houses are in no way or shape pay to win, imagen free to play players with this option...having 15 accounts per person grabbing land....Its retarded to even think it would be ok or balanced..... Freeloaders and their way of thinking lol.....
Whats 12 euro a month for the hours of entertainment you get ? 1 pack of smokes here cost around 9 euro 1 beer 2.50 1 Blueray movie cost 30/40/50 euro
So basically they're going with the same model as SWTOR? Couldn't you guys have just linked the OP to one of those threads rather than spent 11 pages having the exact same discussion only with a different name?

Only diffrence is that AA has around a million more fun stuff to do then SWTOR. You cannot compare a sandbox to a themepark....
Its like comparing the empire state building to a house on a hill.
Themeparks need new contend every few weeks / months. Sandbox is a living world where players create 90% contend.
In Rift Trion have weapons and armor available in the cash shop but they have always promised it would never be top tier gear . Recently though they have offered lockboxes for sale in the cash shop which contain 6-10 infinity shards for around 3 dollars per box . 550 of these shards allow you upgrade one peace of top tier epic armor to legendary armor . While its expensive to do so probably well over 100 dollars per piece I know a few players in my guild that spend that in the game per month .
I have already seen players with several pieces of legendary pvp armor in the warfronts which could only have been obtain so quickly by buying these lock boxes . The lock boxes can be brought for favor but it takes 1800 points to do so . In all likely hood many of them have spent real money at least in part on obtaining these items so quickly because it would take doing a lot of pvp everyday to do it by just playing the game .
Also even if you subscribe and become a patron you would only be able to buy 5 of these lockboxes per month which encourages people who do subscribe to pay even more money if they wish to level up their gear fast . I realized to get this legendary PVP gear I would have to do conquests which I hate other wise it would take several years by just doing the Warfronts and even if I did conquests it would take well over a year to obtain a full set by which time it probably will be out of date .
To me it became a little too close to my definition of pay to win and my estimation of Trion has dropped to an all time low . I've uninstalled the game that I've played since beta and now have similar concerns as to there eventually being a similar system in Archeage which will be ten times worse if it does become pay to win given its a pvp game .
Given its free I probably will try it but given how I have seen Trion dump on patrons like myself from a great height there is no way I would ever do similar and subscribe to Archeage because I no longer trust Trions word .
While people will argue this doesn't make it pay to win I'm sure its very subjective to the individual as to what constitutes pay to win . To me Trion are fast becoming a pay to win company and I'm sure Archeage will become what I personally define as py to win .

Its about value for money I don't think many linear themepark mmos have enough scope to charge as subscription fee but Archeage which is a sandbox game really would do better under the subscription model .

I'm really surprised there is so much excitement around AA after all the discussion about how it tanked in Korea, why it's taken so long to get here, and how the latest patch there themeparkized it.

Trion is not implementing that patch to make it more themepark, they are making it more sandbox if anything. Keep up with the news m8 :P

They had to do something to get PvPers to spend money. PvPers are notoriously cheap. Unless a game is completely pay to win and then we see what your guild mates did and they spent. BECAUSE they thought it gave them an advantage.
PvP hasnt been great in Rift in forever. So the fact that they now let guys upgrade gear for boat loads of cash isnt that big a deal to me. If some guy want sto spend 1500 bucks upgrading gear to beat someone he could probably beat anyway who cares? A few people I guess. But if that money goes to future updates and expansions and development then its not all bad. But the irony generally is everyone that complains about guys doing this fail to realize that once guys get all that gear and have achieved that 'goal' they generally stop playing or at the least dont grind out warfronts like they used to. So them getting 'pay to win gear' actually gets them out of PvP andnot more into it. In arena and instanced type PvP that is the case more often than not. Now in an ppen world game like AA the repercussions would be bigger. Because now that guy has that gear and running around the open world with it on and in a contested area he definitely gets more benefit than just grinding out areanas to get the gear in the first place.
That is what I never understood about how games twisted the WoW way of doing things. Where they doled out gear to do something and then once you had the gear you didnt want to do the things it took to get you the gear in the first place. No ultimate unlock of a full gear required encounter. Sure they have tiered stuff but that is still the same stuf that makes your eye bleed only the mobs have more hit points.
But as long as people cant buy stuff that makes them better than subscribers then I dont see a major problem with a lot of what people claim is pay to win. Getting the same gear for cash that a guy subbing (or even not subbing) can also get through game play to me isnt pay to win. No matter how much the grind is shortened. If the gear you can buy was better then that is obvious.

MMORPGs should just go back to being sub based then we can stop posts like this popping up for every game
