Yah but Guild Wars 2 has some of that [things besides questing] and it has alienated GW1 fans. I was so excited for GW2, and I quit playing after a couple months, just like everyone I know. I'm also very excited about Black Desert, but I also wonder how compelling it is.
Tekaelon is right to question this game, and every other. If a game has great features, and something to make you feel part of the world, and something to bring you back every day, great, but don't forget the business model. Part of what brought me down on GW2 was the cash shop, the trend in industry today, give them the game for $50 then make them pay to enjoy it.
I thought about the $50 founders pack on this game, I'm waiting for beta, If I Get in via beta, and like the game after a month or two, then I'll buy in, not before.
Originally posted by Hefaistos If you buy the Founder's pack today for how long you will be able to play until Alpha is Over?
the game is supposed to be released in august or around there from what i understand. So about 3 months
Trion haven't said but I think an August release is the earliest it would be and probably later. Don't forget the Archeum pack includes three months founders access too, which starts after release. You should be playing for the rest of this year without needing to fork out any more money.
Really great article and the more I read, the more intrigued I become.
I keep hearing mention of a huge world. How huge is the world in comparison to let's say some old games like Asheron's Call 1 for example? I love a huge world to explore.

I never played Asheron's Call.
There are three gigantic and seamless continents. Each continent is about the size of a continent in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Probably even bigger.
I'll admit the founder prizes are a little overdone but I still got it at day 1.
There is a lot of people that judge the game without playing it for being "korean" , that is the thing I see the most when I watch stream viewer chats.
Don't be mistaken, this game is amazing. I had my doubts but damn.
For the first time in years , an mmo puts the MASSIVE back into MMO. This is seriously a breath of fresh air. From the first hour you play this game, you've got this feeling of freedom, of "I can do and become anything I want and it is great". The world is just so amazingly big, there is just so much to do it's insane. After 3 weeks i'm still discovering new stuff everyday.
The fact that trion is not going to introduce the gamebreaking patches from korea makes me happy as well. And, subbing players can share their homes/farms and equipment with free2play players which is great for them!
I've got 2 friends that are really picky about mmo's and they are both addicted as fuck :') I feel sorry for them lol.
Have fun people, have fun.
** The only thing I worry about is bots, this game requires shittons of mats to craft and use in the 21!! professions. Bots will go to this game at hyperspeed, I guarantee it. TRION, MAKE ME PROUD AND BAN LIKE YOU'VE NEVER BANNED BEFORE.
Originally posted by Dauzqul If you liked SWG and EQ2, you will certainly like this game.
NO.. this is not SWG..
Surprised people are saying this as well, having payed UO/SWG i feel this game after playing alpha is absolutely nothing close to the previous games. Really really disappointed with this one

I agree, how Trion deal with the bots will make or break this game. I don't mind people macroing their mounts and stuff, but if I see mining and farming bots, I won't be hanging around for long. If it was a pure themepark, I could ignore it, but not when the economy is so central to the game, just no way.
On another note, I'm surprised that the game looks so poor despite using cryengine. The textures are just terrible.
I hyped this game as much as everyone else... its truly great and I played to level 30 in russia myself - so you can't get wrong here. But now that I have played Closed Beta 2 of Black Desert - I sadly will skip this game - Black Desert is so much better - its truly the first time I feel again that I play something new (graphics wise, combat wise and depth wise) - surely it will be out later than Archeage but I can wait.
Currently playing: Archeage Waiting for: Black Desert
Originally posted by Tekaelon I have been following this game and must admit it has impressive feature list. Open world housing, farms and ships alone are enogb to get me excited. My question is though does the world have an immersive feel to it. GW2 taught me that a list of game features alone is not enough. Is there good lore? Are quests and dungeons fun. Is the world a place you are excited to explore, or is it just a place to grind out levels. Thanks!
I watched about 1/2 hr worth of stream from Massively.com ...the game's combat is super boring and super grindy. If you like to move during combat, then forget about ArcheAge as you'll not be able to (and I mean casting...you sit like a Shaman's totem and just cast like a statue). If you like a more actiony style of gameplay, then forget about ArcheAge.
For all the bragging of "features" that players have, they forget that a game should be interactive and fun. It doesn't matter if the game looks super gorgeous to the eye when the fingers and the mind are dulled.
nope, while i agree that the feature is somehow amazing, ( and i am ex SWG here ) but this game isnt close to SWG ( in response to the 1st poster )
after playing ESO for a while, and when i get into AA, gosh, i was blown away on how clunky everything is, the cutscene, the animation, and not to mention the horrible graphic glitch ( i know its still Alpha ) but this game is like what? 4-5 years old in the making? having a graphic glitch is not forgiven in 2014's AAA games, even if its MMO.
apart from that, yes i do agree this is probably the best sandbox out there right now, and this will only cater to some of people, as for me, even as a Sandbox worshiper, i just can't like this game, maybe when it's F2P, i will play again to see how i will like it after a full release
but props to Trion for accpeting my refund request on my 150$ pack

I haven't played Black Dessert but it does look better than ArcheAge, but I question the combat. I never saw depth (at least any that I enjoyed) from action/mouse clicking attacks. Its fun the first few levels but over time it bores me (regardless of the skill).
Cant wait to try it... but even then I don't think it will beat AA as my MMO home.

You know - I think there's a lot of ways to play this game. There are no voice-overs for the quests, only the cut scenes. So I just quested like I did in WoW. However, quests are just one thing that I honestly barely payed attention to in this game. Between farming, fishing, PvP, and a dozen other things - questing was just something I did on the side. I'm 50 in my first set of skills and started moving onto others. The world is very massive and open, and a blast to play. The questing isn't something like in ESO or other quest driven games.
Well put, this game has a way of sucking you in and not letting go. If you get bored of one aspect, there are dozens of other things to do. The only thing I would like to see changed is the toxic community, right now it is pretty bleak.
It is pvp-centric, what do you expect? It is what these games draw.
Originally posted by Br3akingDawn graphics style of choice surely looks better than wildstar... i mean the features and content is prety good for wildstar but just couldnt get into the art, especially its something will be looking at mostly..
I was skeptical of the art in Wildstar, but once I gave it a shot, it grew on me pretty quickly. I really like the artwork now, fits the feel of this game perfectly.
I wasn't really following AA at first, didn't seem to appeal to me, but the more I see and read, the more I wanna play. I've been waiting since UO to find a good game with open world housing, this might be it. Loved UO until carebear Trammel mirror appeared. I'll never forget reading a dev post "Trammelis not a mirror!" LOL epic fail.
SWG had potential, and was OK for a few months until everyone became obsessed with being a JEDI, and Sony destroyed everything Raph Koster was trying to create. So SWG sucked in my opinion.

Disappointed how? I feel sorry for you then cause since SWG came out, this is the only MMO to allow this much feature to be unveiled at launch, than any MMO since. I know you can't name one MMO to have as much to offer as AA will when it launches here in NA / EU, theres no way.
Will just have to agree to disagree, I find EVE much more enjoyable than AA right now.

Unfortunately, pvp oriented games tend to draw in the more toxic player crowds.

I have been playing for several weeks and I must say this game comes the closest of any game to giving me the feelings I had while playing Star Wars Galaxies. As mentioned above, there are just so many kinds of things to do that questing almost becomes what you do when you just want to take a break from all the sandbox activities in the game. It's a fantastic game and I am happy to have paid the money to get into alpha. It was worth every cent.
And to clarify for everyone, this game is NOT just a sandbox. It is really like SWG in that it is a SandPark with sandbox and themepark elements mixed in a way that is just amazing!
Played the Russian version a while back.... some parts of the game were fun, but lost interest after a while. This game reminds me of a similar game that was hyped a while back and has fallen along the wayside, even with a revamp.
This one I will wait about 3-4 months after its US launch and see what happens.

This is a fantastic game. I stopped playing Alpha only due to the fact of not wanting to ruin the game by seeing everything, its very addicting.
Besides there will be official rp servers more than likely so I'd rather not play on the same server as everyone else right now.
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

The massively streams are horrible. Watch anything on youtube like streams from Panda, Bikestman, or ZiggyD instead.

What game do you play that has no bots or hacks?
Why use this universal problem as a reason to criticise AA?
Wait until Trion release their version at least if you are gonna sling mud?
