Any idea on NA release?

Hey, I haven't been following this game at all but I knew of it.  But pulled up a couple videos last night and it caught my interest.  So I have no clue on when it might release in the US.  When are they aiming for?

black desert will never see the light of day in NA... it just wont.

i wish people would stop acting like it is a sure thing. the game is not designed in any way to appeal to a western audience. it will never leave eastern markets....

Look how long Archeage has taken and its still a ways off for launch in NA, what features does this game have that are not NA friendly exactly cause i have yet to see anything like that ?

Totally agree...it has no features that anybody would really like.

Customize characters, housing, crafting, PvP, castle  sieges, open non instanced world and pretty dam good looking graphics.

I mean how can that compare to Wildstars Cartoon look or ESO instanced mega world?

    haha +1

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

You do realize Pearl Abyss have said that it will absolutely release in the West.  But to say it will "never" see the light of day in NA is just silly. Publishers would be nuts not to pick this up!

Here is a quote taken from the FAQ

"Will this game be launched for the US/Western audience?

PearlAbyss is still looking for an appropriate publisher, but the game will be available in the West absolutely. After closed beta testing in Korea, Pearl Abyss will begin looking for potential Western partners."

And they will be attending E3 this year and the article over at massively states they WILL be looking for an NA publisher.

There are many many features in games such as ArcheAge and Black Desert that players in the West DO want. You should check out some of the fan made sites. Some really good info out there about the game. Player housing, fishing, Piegeon shooting and fast paced action combat, trading, mounted combat, Pvp, castle sieges, Occulus Rift support, crafting, Pakour,  large seamless open world, dynamic weather systems (Thunder lightning rain etc), a highly detailed character customization system, large cities that actually are alive and bustling, nah nothing we want here in western games

How is this English patch thing ? Is it a supported patch well it must be because it is a patch .Why does Russia allow these English patches I assuming you're talking about Archage as the precedent for this no ?

How is the game experience was the English translation ,a good one on Archage ? I am curious because it might be interesting to play on the Russian servers if the patch is good. Black Dessert already have a publisher for Russia right ?

    That's my pick.

Picking a pulisher is driven almost 100% by financial reasons - Pearl Abyss gets a huge cut of the profits (most likely 85% of all the sales) - so it's a matter of finding a NA publisher that will settle for 15% or less.

It won't matter much in reality, as soon as Russian version is open to public, without an IP block everyone will be playing on the Russian servers with an english patch.

En Masse took an amazing foundation with Tera then turned it into a bunch of pve shit....no way...not for a pvper.  The rightful owners of tera, NC Soft would be my choice.

Late 2015 minimum, I bet. If it does well enough in other countries first.

Sorry, off-topic, I just wanted to point out that your FFXIV ARR F2P petition made me annoyed just seeing the link,  then I clicked on it, and you got me. ;)

    Good one.

PS: I should have just PM'd, but whatever. I can't seem to delete this now anyway.

Black Desert will have PvE and PvP servers - not sure if you knew that.

Sounds like the best of both worlds.

Dunno whether I would do PVE or PVP personally if I had a choice

I agree with this estimate.  The game is still in a very beta state, but the developers are open to suggestions and willing to make the changes the playerbase wants to see.  At the present rate, I'd be surprised if BD launched in Korea in 2014.  They are making a truly massive game with many gameplay spheres (sandbox).

A serious publisher could get the english client and game launched in a matter of months, but with the game still unfinished I seriously doubt we'll see it before late 2015.

Ya, 6 months.  Definitely less than a year, and a lot of the obstacles you are describing would have been overcome in the korean and russian launches of the game.  If anything it would be even easier doing it for the third time.

    Russian publisher:

There will be no IP block, shared by Gamenet. The amount of servers is going to depend on their playerbase. The most surprising information shared is the game will be free to play, but if the community wants, there will be separate pay to play servers. That being said, Gamenet has insisted the game will not be pay to win. Closed Beta will be in December, 2014; the release will be January, 2015.

K-TERA is published by Hangame and devellopped by Bluehole Studios. Don't know where you get NC-soft from.

Define months - as in less than 6 months - not possible.

6 - 12 months yes for English Beta.

It takes a month to go over the server/network architecture and order all the servers and network gear and just install and get it running - that's 2 months gone right there.

To get the game installed, tested, setup all the databases,  train the Publishers operations team to run the game, get all the firewalls and security setup, get CDN setup, get automation and patch deployment systems setup -  2-3 months.

To integrate the game with the publisher's platform and setup a cash shop to run with the publishers auth and billing system, setup metrics and analytics to monitor the game - 3+ months.

Train customer support on GM tools, game systems - 1 month.

Sure you can do some of the above concurrently - but it will take more than 6 months.

So it just can't be done in less than 6 months - sure you can throw it together and it would be SHIT but to actually set it up to where it's done well - it takes a lot of work.

Most AAA publishers worth their salt will take a year minimum.

Um, no. It does not take months to order server hardware.

Softlayer will set you up in 4 hours, with a bare metal server of your choice, with about 6 locations and 12ish data centers. For a cost of less than 1500 per month per server. Check your prices, cloud is cheap cheap cheap.

Reworking code and training staff would take longer, depending on the code, and how cheap the publisher gets with hiring customer relations staff. Cheap staff don't learn fast, smart staff don't come cheap.
