This game gives me very much an Arcade feeling... Its fun, its instant gratification, its active, and the quests are easy to get by and dont require minutes of reading or voice overs to get into the story.... I think the choosen graphics style complements this very well, but thats a personal opinion...
However, i think they missed the point with their combat system, its quite fun, but i keep asking myself, is it fun enough?
---------------- Wild idea that never will happen -------------
If they however would have added a full combo system, with like 6 to 6 basic skills, and the idea to create combo chains of 2,3,4 and 5 basic skills... finsihed with an execute move.. where the first skill used in the chain sets the AoE of the telegraph, and later skills add more effects to it..
And give people the option to choose their own basic effects and add their finishing moves to a table, making basic moves availble to trainers/shop, and adding finishing moves intoo the game like it was a trading cards system....
Build your own skillset, by choosing your basic skills... and adding a set number of finishing moves to a table... i think it would be awesome...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the end we will see if the combat is good enough, to make people forget of the grindy nature of MMO´s... if not, i am affraid it will eventually go the same road as all those other great games released post WoW... But for a few months of fun, people that love arcade style games might actually get a few good months out of it, and there will allways be those people that will feel at home with this game..
I personally had fun playing open beta since yesterday.. And there certainly is room for an Arcadish game like this on the market..
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Not sure if joking about combos or not..
but you DO combo spells.. certain abilities rely on other abilites, and in proper sucession create combo chances..
Did you miss this?
I partially agree on combat but disagree on it just needing combos.
Vindictus is a prime example. The best thing about the game is its combat, but its flaws is complete lack of overall depth for an MMORPG. So, while the combat is great, it isn't a long term MMO going to play every moment of my free time type of game. It would end up being the same with Wildstar, the combat would be great for a part-time game much like any other console game would be.
The game needs combat depth. far more skills and far more active skills.
This 1-6 or in Wildstar's case, 1-8 is garbage combat that becomes stale after a short time. It limits every single aspect of an MMORPG. Maybe if it was an MMOFPS, sure. But not an MMORPG.
I think what we are seeing here is a lot of companies thinking they can combine an MMORPG with single player action gameplay while still trying to tag it as an MMORPG and many of us are just not liking it at all because of that. I would wager that if they did not try to associate it with MMORPGs and instead call them something new, more fitting, it may leave people more open to the fact that its just plain a bland MMORPG, while instead is a decent MMO action game...but then good luck justifying charging a monthly fee to play a multiplayer action game!
It has some nice arcade elements but I think you're wrong describing WS combat as arcadey.
It's more like a MOBA combat than an arcade.
